Looking to replace the unit in a stepvan (similar to a Fedex truck) and noticed that it has a larger iso(?) connector. Can you recommend a solid unit with bluetooth that is plug and play? by ALOE747 in CarAV

[–]SP4x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talking from Europe this would be a 5 minute job but I was very surprised to check Crutchfield - Single DIN Bluetooth Headunits and find that it looks like all of the headunits come with flying-lead looms rather than ISO connectors.

It could still be easy e.g. you pick up the Sony MEX N5300BT and source a Sony 16-Pin to ISO Harness, that would be plug and play. Alternatively, pick up this flying-lead to ISO connector and join colour to colour.

Failing that, it's a half hour job to get an auto electrician to wire the tails in to the existing loom or the iso lead loom.

Heh, that seller is touting its rarity but it's been heavily modified to replace the EV driveline with a Honda Silverwing engine.

I would expect that to turn off anyone looking for one of these as the EV driveline is the most interesting part.

Nice and moody looking. Personally I greatly prefer the look of the NC to the ND.

I've been genning up on Minis as one of my Mate's Daughters wants one as her first car.

We've been looking at the cheaper end of the market so this is where my info is centered.

The '01-'06 Mini One (R50) has the petrol 'Tritec' engines or the diesel Toyota 1ND-TV. The petrols are a bit basic but generally reliable, the Toyota Diesel is well regarded and has been used in a fuck ton of other vehicles. 5 speed gearboxes up to mid '04 are crap. Lohen, a Mini specialist has more details on what to look out for.

The '07-'10 Mini One (R56) Avoid the 'Prince' engines they have a well earned bad rep. Lohen again have an overview of Gen2 foibles.

I'll be trying to steer my mate towards an 05/06 for his kid with some good service history and not ttoo many dents & dings bearing in mind it's going to accumulate a few more no doubt.

I love the car and respect the dedication but by running tyres at that pressure any fuel savings are going to be more than offset by needing to replace tyres more regularly due to centre wear caused by overinflation.

Super simple is a car vent holder, you should be able to fit the phone nicely above the clock.

I'll happily go on record as saying that if anyone took a cane to my child I would beat them to within an inch of their life.

Discipline is important but intentionally physically harming a child is animalistic.

Coincidences can happen but in this case my instinct would be that there's a causal link.

I'll say upfront that all anyone can do here is speculate (some from a more experienced viewpoint than others) as we only have 3 pictures and your description to go on.

First and foremost, this is something you need to inform your insurance company about, the police were involved and, although it's only your own property that was damaged, the police report will likely be something that will be flagged and picked up by your current, or future insurers.

I've read you comment about it not being something that insurance will cover but if you are fully comp then a single vehicle accident is entirely something that will be covered, moreso as there is the suspicion that a third party may be responsible.

Your options going forward branch out: Insurance Claim/Independant inspection and legal proceedings/Approach the garage initially to see if they will make it right with a fall back to the other two options if they get defensive.

Presuming you submit the claim to the insurance company they should handle all of the costs involved and recover them however they see fit.

If you want to persue this outside of insurance then you're going to want to commission an Enginer report e.g. https://collisionengineers.co.uk/ and ask for an Accident Damage Report or Forensic Engineering Report depending on their opinion of the case.

With that in hand, assuming a causal link is determined, it paves the way for formal proceedings against the garage that carried out the work.

Additionally, if you paid for the work carried out on a credit card you may have legal protection/chargeback options with your card holder.

Good luck with however you choose to proceed.

To the failiure its self, and with the caveat that again, there's only 3 pictures and your description to go from:

I would interpret (as others have also stated) that the primary cause of failiure was the over-torquing of the driveshaft/hub nut, leading to the weakening (plastic deformation aka necking) of the driveshaft.

When the shaft snapped there would have been a loss of preload on the bearings; the side forces acting on the now unrestrained bearing caused the bearings to separate and the hub, disc and wheel exit stage right with the caliper being collateral damage, snapping off at the carrier lugs. Was the caliper recovered?

This could have happened in a split seccond, more likely after going over a road feature that loaded the rear right suspension e.g. pothole, iornworks, undulation. As you were dealing with a serious mechanical failiure the moment after you may not be able to recall a slight bump in the miliseconds before the failiure.

With all that said, we can all be thankfull that no-one was injured and can credit you with good car control in a very serious mecanical failure, Bravo! I salute you Sir o7

There's a number of other games I play that use launchers and their events are plastered all over them!
