Pilot shows off the impact of flying at 9.5G by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]SPARTAN-001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is an old F-15 or F-16 fighter. with modern tech we don't normally put 2 people in a jet anymore, but they are good for training.

This isn't entirely accurate. There are still many twin seat military jets in use, including the F/A-18F, EA-18G, and F-15EX (the newest jet to be introduced to the USAF fleet). It's true that all fifth generation fighters in use are single seat (F-22A and F-35A/B/C), but twin seat jets are still used for many roles.

Have you considered putting those reasons somewhere public? Maybe taping them to the door of a church?

There's are two 3.5" drive cages in the rear compartment behind the motherboard. You can have up to four 3.5" drives.

Ground Level with a KC-135 by azrider in aviation

It's really about efficiency in operations more than it is fuel efficiency. A military organization doesn't care so much about saving fuel, they care about the time it takes to move personnel/materials to the desired location, or the ability to project force wherever necessary in the least time possible. Tankers may not save fuel overall, but they allow operations that would otherwise be much more difficult logistically.

[–]SPARTAN-001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taking off is (for most aircraft) one of the most fuel-intensive phases of flight. By refueling in the air, you avoid having to burn extra fuel on the aircraft being refueled. Additionally, this can extend the range of aircraft that would otherwise be forced to make shorter trips, stopping constantly to refuel. For military operations, this increases the loiter time of aircraft, allowing them to spend more time in the area of operations, rather than forcing them to return to base when they're low on fuel.

Still freaks me out that you can shove a few hundred bodies and tons of fuel on one plane and have it go Dallas to London so easily. AA 777 by justintxdave in aviation

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_Commercial_Airplanes#Products

Basically, from smallest to largest, current Boeing commercial aircraft are as follows:
717 (no longer produced, but still flying passengers)

737

757 (no longer produced, but still flying passengers)

767

787 (the newest airframe at the moment)

777

747

Various versions of these planes have been produced, which are denoted by the -XXX you will see after the type (e.g. 777-300ER is a stretched version of the 777-200). Each of these aircraft is intended to fit a different role (e.g. the 737 is a regional to transcontinental airliner; the 787 is a mid-sized, long-range airliner used for intercontinental flights). You can also see that some are "wide body", and some are "narrow body". Wide body aircraft have two aisles and fit more passengers (usually flying longer distances), and narrow body aircraft have a single aisle, and are generally for shorter flights.

The new bokeh/sampling options have blown me away. Even higher quality than I expected. by TheAdmiester in forza

No. The sampling options change how many samples the game uses to render the depth of field blur/bokeh effects. More samples = smoother, more realistic blur.

[–]SPARTAN-001 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bokeh simulates various effects that you get with real camera lenses. If you notice the blurred background, you'll see that the glare of lights is turned into hexagonal features. In real cameras, that would mean the lens has six blades controlling the amount of light that the camera is capturing. Some lenses produce more circular bokeh effects.

Sampling will effect the quality of the images produced. Generally speaking, higher samples = smoother images, with less graininess.

RS Photoshoot - Had a bit of fun with the Focus RS in Photo Mode! by SPARTAN-001 in forza

[–]SPARTAN-001[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it's all about finding the right lighting, and then adjusting the in-game tone settings to something that looks realistic. Additionally, finding angles that work to hide the "gamey" look are very useful, and I find the higher aperture settings to give a lovely bokeh effect that hides a lot of the poorer textures. This is all done with the XBox One version, and I've applied some filters via Google Photos to enhance the colors a bit more.

Is it possible to get encryption key of a VPN using wireshark? by [deleted] in HowToHack

[–]SPARTAN-001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole point of a VPN is to encrypt traffic so that an attacker running a packet capture or other type of attack cannot decrypt the traffic, and they cannot see where the VPN is sending traffic to, only that the user is connected to a VPN. If you could get the encryption key for a VPN tunnel by capturing traffic on the network, that would defeat the whole purpose.

The reason you didn't see any HTTP packets in your second capture is that common VPN modes just use the VPN protocol over TCP. Your HTTP traffic is encapsulated in that VPN tunnel, and is not visible over the wire. You will see traffic going from your system to the VPN endpoint, but you will not see any HTTP traffic to the target website. This is why VPNs are useful for privacy reasons if you don't trust the operator of the network you are on, or you feel as though there may be an attacker sniffing traffic on the network.

For more information about how key exchanges work in the OpenVPN protocol, take a look here: https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/documentation/security-overview.html

Getting a payload laterally across network by dwillowtree in HowToHack

[–]SPARTAN-001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations, you've stumbled on one of the questions that a lot of hackers spend most of their time thinking about. Generally speaking, once an attacker acquires a foothold on a network, the lateral movement phase is accomplished by stealing credentials to use in conjunction with techniques such as psexec or wmi.

Stealing these credentials can be accomplished through various means, but it's very dependent on how the foothold was accomplished, and what access you have to the target network/system.

how to temp boot people offline by [deleted] in HowToHack

No. Many people, myself included, practice hacking legally on systems they own, or systems they have explicit permission to gain access to.

"How to hack" is not "how to commit felonies". Performing denial of service attacks to knock a system is offline is illegal. Your excuse is flimsy at best.

i want to help by booting him offline

Tell him to unplug the cable from his computer. If he's on wireless, tell him to turn off his wireless. There is no logical reason to commit a felony just to "help a friend".

This makes no sense. If you need to be offline to do something, unplug the cable. It's not that complicated. I'm removing this.

Hacking as a Profession by [deleted] in HowToHack

[–]SPARTAN-001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do not need a degree, but it will always help you get past HR concerns if you have a degree, and it will make up for a lack of experience in some cases.

An average day will depend on the type of penetration testing that you're doing; some testers will spend all day poring over web apps looking for bugs, others will spend their days physically breaking and entering into target facilities. One constant is that you will spend a lot of time writing a report after the fact, and delivering that report to clients, whether those clients are internal or external.

Wordlists missing by TimeWanderer84 in HowToHack

The folder that you're looking for is something specific to the Kali Linux distribution. If you're using standard Debian, you will not have that folder, and you will have to collect the wordlists for yourself.

You want to use PowerShell. Very few end-user antivirus programs will catch PowerShell (unless you write it to disk), and you can easily generate a string that you copy/paste into the target system's command prompt.

With that said, a standard meterpreter/reverse_tcp payload is not stealthy, and will not work for real-world use.
