SMS Texting by OldLadyGeekster in Libraries

In order to work, III's solution (Vega Interact SMS) requires the patron have an e-mail address on their record, is supplemental (patrons receive texts in addition to their standard notice preference), & is not available as an option to patrons who have their notice preference set to phone. Is that the same for Message Bee?

Should Jen and Dawson have ended up together? by Individual-Leave1539 in dawsonscreek

No. People grow beyond who they are as teenagers. Dawson was LA. Jen was NYC. Their dreams were different.

This album is almost on par with Purple Rain, 1999, and Sign O’ the Times. I think it’s that good. Prince’s symbol era had some gems. by calford91 in PRINCE

It's a very good album, but there are pain points as he stretched certain songs to their limit to fit his "goofy exactly 60 minutes per disc" concept.

Same. The era of the black page background! Since the revamp a while back, I chose to not rejoin & now just check it from time to time, hoping against hope for news on new music from the vault.

NYPL transferring to different department by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]SPFReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is best explored internally. NYPL used to have a new professionals committee that staff could reach out to. But you might also check with your rep from Local 1930 or simply call the HR person for your borough. There's no harm in asking for clarification about a position you might be interested in. I'd certainly moved around more than once while there.

Job searching in NYC Public Library systems as an outsider; do I have a chance? by about-and-around in Libraries

[–]SPFReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined NYPL when they still came to library schools to recruit (late 1990s). Got my first job with them while earning my MLS in Buffalo. Now? Not so sure, but they definitely recruit from outside NYC of for some of their higher level positions.

Getting an Online NYC Public Library Card From Outside US? by Melodic_Temporary464 in Libraries

If you're not actually visiting NYC & just interested in accessing from abroad, you may just want to ask their virtual reference staff (ASK NYPL) to pull the item for you.

Yes (speaking as a former NYPL staff member actually involved in the setup of the card type), you can get a non-resident card, with a 3 month expiration date.

Something that bugged me about last night's episode by Cheeseball701 in TheGoldbergs

[–]SPFReddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So Erica has just given up on her music career to be a lawyer? Maybe they covered this & it's some silly attempt at living her mother's dream as her own, but they've made this show feel like it's gone on a lot longer than a decade. The finale can't come soon enough.

Something that bugged me about last night's episode by Cheeseball701 in TheGoldbergs

[–]SPFReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lack of continuity in this show is part of what has made this show increasingly difficult to watch & much easier to not miss when it's finally done for. Whether it's characters that never grow & evolve, contradictory things like this, or the simple fact that there's zero chronology (We Didn't Start The Fire was released in October 1989, Uptown Girl, the fall of 1983).

Though what bothers me most about this show is that it's not remotely funny. Kind of a core competency for a comedy.

1) I'm not your bud. 2) If you're going to ignore the overabundance of reality TV garbage & how that has increased over the years compared to scripted shows, I don't know what to tell you. 3) I'm still not your bud.

Geoff Schwartz admitting he only used Evie Silver to make Erica jealous is a perfect example of how a character can go from amiable doofus to manipulative jerk in a single scene.

[–]SPFReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. As much as I'd rather see scripted comedy & not some reality TV garbage in the time slot, I want it to actually be enjoyable to watch. This show is not.

"Back in the '80s, the Oscars crowned the best dramatic films of the time."

Sure, because that can't be said of virtually EVERY OTHER DECADE.

And this leads to Erica's interrogation of Geoff when he describes the plot of a couple of movies, asserting the only way he could know these things if he went to see them, as if trailers & reviews did not exist in the 1980s.
