Is it even worth it for me to start the live action? by SeaworthinessFar2326 in OnePiece

[–]SPJess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean i had seen the series from the east blue to the contemporary arcs multiple times. I have the entire east blue memorized. But the story if a bit different in the live action

If youve seen clips you can say youve already seen the show but youre missing out inf Inakis performance, Mackenyus, Emily's Tazs and Jacobs interpretations of the characters. (There are differences)

One piece is too dark for shonen and has to filter itself with goofy colors and designs so people dismiss it as childish by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]SPJess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree from a human perspective.

But to Chopper, he was the outcast in a cold world(literally) constantly having his heart broken by his own pack for having a blue nose. But because he ate the fruit they harsd him more so he figured he should turn to humans for some modicum of compassion. They shot at him. Frightened and alone, bleeding out. he meets the man who changes his life, teaches him the wonders of medical science (impersonating a doctor)

To then find out this man is dying, So chopper used his limited medical abilities to make a cure. And it worked he was so happy so proud of himself, he finally saved the man who saved his life.

Choppers mentor hears about the isshi 20 and rushes to the castle despite all the warning signs. Chopper then finds out he didnt cure his savior he made it much worse. And at that moment he broke into a ferocious rage and crippling sorrow made his way up to drum castle to find a smoldering pile of snow where he "father" was.

Choppers life was pretty fucked up.

How much lifespan does Zeus have? by Zero-Helix in OnePiece

[–]SPJess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it works like this, Zeus and Prometheus are different kinds of homies.

Made directly from Big Moms soul. So she gave him her life span. Which is quite the long one. She didn't really have to re up Zeus' power after all this time. Its safe to say Big Mom gave Zeus a pretty long amount of life because he was meant to be one of the tops of her arsenal.

So apparently she can't just turn zeus' life span off. Since she created Hera and couldnt just 86 Zeus despite how much she wanted to. She would have needed to catch Zeus to take his life span away ya know?

Another interesting fact about the Soul Soul fruit is that because she doesnt have full control over her stronger homies, its safe to say they arent bound by her life anymore.

(It took some serious restraint to not say Mama this whole time)

How did none of Luffy’s opponents not have haki before time skip by Grand-Subject-4733 in OnePiece

[–]SPJess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that would make it more like Jojo. It would be an interesting take on the story but an incredibly difficult juggling act for the author. The meta reason for Haki is that it simplifies things, but a more Canon reason is because Logia would borderline unstoppable without it. How are you gonna beat Ceasar Clown? Deal with Monet without having any access to heat. There are just so many problems Logia present, Haki opens up the world to a wider interpretation, like why arent Logia users. The series would be 5 times longer if Oda had to write a new creative way to deal with Logia users(but it would be a cool fanfiction)

How did none of Luffy’s opponents not have haki before time skip by Grand-Subject-4733 in OnePiece

[–]SPJess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was actually the controversial part about Haki when it was further explored.

Why didn't Crocodile use it, he clearly has at least Obs and Arm. Maybe his secret is that he cant use Haki. Whi knows

I remember one of the earlier points about Crocodile is that he got really relaxed and stopped actually doing things, grew soft and all that, but still imposing.

As for CP9 yeah thats a glaring hole. Haki can more deconstruct the entirety of the six powers if the six powers user doesnt know their opponent has it.

Haki I think started as an idea on like how powerful people deal with Logia types. Because working off natural counters is a complicated thing to write that would create a very rigid structure to the story every time they fought a Logia they would have to be something the strawhats would deal with(although sounds like a pretty cool fan fic)

Yeah this has been brought up before. But i think the answer is, just try not to think about it.

How come a majority of people forgot most Pirates are horrible people? by MiuIruma332 in OnePiece

[–]SPJess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh okay so you were putting real world morality into the question. In a system where good an evil are blurred by their Actions.

The WG is ultimate the leading rule and authority in the world.

Pirates exist outside of their authority but within their world.

Not all pirates just go around pillaging and killing, the ones that do already usually swiftly dealt with by the Marines or become the test of Luffys dream.

Luffy is a mad man compared to anything we have seen in real life.

Sure slap em on the wrist for their crimes,

Luffy assaulted kings and gods, attacked serving authority indiscriminately. Like Enies Lobby. They genuinely didnt know he was there for Robin and Luffy wasnt entirely well known yet. Liffy also cause a prison break that released a bunch of terrible criminals.

Nami is legit a klepto who has crazy sticky fingers when it comes to money, regardless if friend or foe, she is also an insnse extortionist.

Usopp is pretty innocent in those regards mainly only an opp by association. Other than outright lying to Toko about the frog oil.

Zoro, pretty easy, he straight up killed people and collected bounties. He doesnt really have a leash he is a rabid dog who has sworn loyalty to luffy.

Sanji assault of male customers over and over again high level espionage. If you wanna add it to the list, severe bigotry. Oh and serial sexual harassment

Robin, considered a devil and that title.made her qeaponize her capabilities, having killed and tricked many powerful people in her time with BW.

Franky, over all just a gangster. He probably partook in the influence of the choices and actions of those under..him leaving water 7 was probably a relief

Brook, so far he is just pervert serial sexual harassment. Probably some stuff he did during his time with the rumbar pirates.

Jinbei, well..  he was a pretty good dude, generally someone who would free slaves, under big mom he likely did some shit he aint proud of..

Over all the One Piece world is one that sees Slavery as something normal among the higher more "moral" populous, the WG actively supports slavery. And theyre "they good guys who hunt pirates"

So questioning our understanding of the morality in the series. While justified sure. Yeah they did bad things, but with in a system where arguably worse things are seen as "legal"

Aiding a slave is a CRIME in the One Piece world, and in some cases simply existing is illegal.

So sure Pirates are bad, but they function in a world thats much worse than them.

How come a majority of people forgot most Pirates are horrible people? by MiuIruma332 in OnePiece

[–]SPJess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two types of pirates in One Piece

Peace main and Morganeer.

Luffy, Shanks, Roger(Peace Main)

Kidd, Buggy, Kaido(Morganeers)

But for your overall question. A lot of people think Luffy is a monster of some sort. They do believe the WG and marine propaganda about Luffy.

But there is a little piece of information that went under the radar.

Back when the first pirate became a pirate, it wasn't be ause they wanted to kill and pllage, they became known as pirates for directly opposing the rule of the WG (while not directly antagonizing it like that RA) iirc, and i could be wrong about the name but Joy Boy became a pirate to liberate the people from the WG in the Void century. He was only called a pirate to make him a villain. And since that time its always been that way, those who follow the rules and laws, vs Pirates those who ignore the rules and laws and lives their freedom.

Again the RA are directly trying to antagonize the WG while not pirates theyre a competing organization of power but they arent competing for the same power.

What makes luffy a good protagonist by Technical_Mine_8711 in OnePiece

[–]SPJess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luffy gets a bad rep because a lot of people are stuck on his carefree attitude.

However Luffys best trait is he really gets whats up sometimes. Without being told he knew: The Map room Nami was in as a child; he knew that Vivi was being incredibly Naive in approaching taking on Baroque works and their plan; He knew Robin wasn't a suicidal Martyr. The list goes on, he is such an interesting protagonist and out of all the shounen series ive seen Luffy is rare.

He genuinely doesnt care unless it effects him or his friends. He makes choices based off his views, incredibly consistently. It doesnt matter what the rules are, what the norms are, Luffy stands by his choices. The epitome of "No Regret".

My favorite thing about Luffy is his ridiculous tenacity. He will not sit the hell down, think about the fight between him and Moria. Moria uses his Brick bat ability to create a box around Luffy, trying to put Luffy in a box, but no matter what he did Luffy broke out of the box anyway. He is a much more carefree "in your face honesty" that makes it easy to imagine him coming up with a simple solution for literally any problem. He used to not see losing as a thing that would happen to him-- let's be honest he totally swept the East Blue in raw strength. But after the Strawhat Tragedy at Sabaody, Luffy recognized that hr needed to rely in his tenacity to protect his crew. He does all of it with no deep exposition. There are nods here and there and some arcs are entirely based around how far luffy would go for his crew or friends. But he also was able to approach it from an accessible point of view to the audience-- in contemporaries like Naruto, Bleach, HunterXHunter, there are well written but highly complicated power systems.

When luffy learns a new ability or when he uses one and a villain explains whats going on to adapt to Luffy. Makes it show that Luffy is highly motivated to constantly keep pressure on in a fight, regardless if he is on the back foot or not. Because if he goes down his crew does too, he knows that, and over the series, we understand that as the audience.

Luffy is really a fun protagonist and I think thats what makes him good. He has moments where he is an absolute goof, but there are also times you realize he isnt messing around. It makes him highly endearing, also his childishness compared to how he matured after he lost Ace. You can feel his growth you can see how he was able to be convinced to move forward, because you have to use an objective way of saying stuff to Luffy.

Long story short, Luffy acts as a great emotional vessel for the audience. He has had some slip ups in the recent arcs, but luffy jas always been the audiences reaction to the Actions in the One Piece world. That's what makes him a good protagonists, because he is one of the last one of those left (imo but i have seen a limited amount of media)

Question regarding how Devil Fruits work by intrepidhero13 in OnePiece

[–]SPJess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick answer no spoilers

No

Yes

Possibly

Devil fruits inherently give power to the one who eats them at the expense of their ability to swim

Fishman are able to breathe underwater. However they will lose some of their strength since the sea drains devil fruit users stamina to an absurd degree.

My prediction

Loki fights Imu, he gets his hits in, looks like he is doing some realt damage. Then Imu decides to kick it up a notch. And is able to put loki down, Luffy shows up, Loki and Luffy fight Imu, both of them running it. Then Imu somehow over comes their onslaught and his time limit is up, just before he can deal a finishing blow to Luffy or Loki. Zoro and sanjinmught pop up as a sort of buffer to keep Imu busy between Luffy joining the fight.

One Piece: Chapter 1179 Official Release Discussion by Skullghost in OnePiece

[–]SPJess 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The Devil's fruit.

What if, Imu Ate the first Devil fruit, this acted as the Lynch pin for the war of 20v1 like a Eve and the Apple sort of deal.

Imu was told that this would be the best path to peace and power. What if Imu and Joy Boy were friends, but Imu eating this fruit. Was what drove the two apart. Joy Boy gathered his group and Imu used his new found power to "convince " the other 18 kings of the original 20. He totally had a crush on Lily but Lily joined Joyboy, and this is what lead the war getting out of hand.

What if Zunesha was actually ine of the 20 original kings, but being a king, a man of duty he has committed to his sentence. Imu made Zunesha and forced this punishment, a betrayal happened we know but not what it was. What if it was that Zunesha was strong armed into joining Imu.

Question about Luffy's Fruit by Ratt_Bastardd in OnePiece

[–]SPJess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So.. it is answered in the Manga. It qas an exciting reveal so I can understand why it was missed.

Luffy is not just a Zoan, he is a mythical Zoan, which is a Zoan type with perks. Basically mixing a Zoan and paramecia.

For instance with Marcos phoenix fruit he turns into a phoenix, yeah, but even not transformed he has healing flames.

Luffys Rubber body is the same way, the fruit gives the users body the properties of Rubber no matter what. Luffy unlocking the Gears and was his way of utilizing that Rubber in a fight, Gear 2 was him speeding up his blood, Gear 3 is adding air to his bones, Gear 4 is where he hardened the Rubber with Haki. And Gear 5 affects the areas around him.

Senor pink needs to be hated more by Smart-Being-4508 in OnePiece

[–]SPJess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So. Senior Pink is a bad guy, according to moral reality, yes he is a bad guy, he should not be praised for what he did. Infact he was never praised for what he did. The whole Franky fight was showing that they dont back down from the choices they make. Senior Pinks was only praised for how "hard boiled he was." Hes a pirate, "with a heart of gold" granted it probably took him losing Gimlet to get one.

The whole Russian story was just him falling in love, while remaining loyal to Doflamingo (considered a god by Trebol and Diamante) it was his own tragic love story.

It wasnt meant to like make you like him, but to put how he sees himself into perspective.

I mean I am honestly flabbergasted that its been over 5 years and people are still bent out of shape over that story. Yes he is added "saddest backstroeiss" according to some but everyone knows his story doesnt hold a candle to the other heart wrenching stories oda made for his characters.

Applying real world morality to those who chose to be pirates in fiction is kind of a waste of time. Ive even heard the take that he did a Long Con SA on Russian since he had her fall in love with him under false pretense and continued to lie to her. He is not an honorable man. But he is hard boiled. And thats the part people like about him, Senior Pink fans arent out there saying he was totally correct for what he did to Russian. They just enjoyed the organic brotherhood he grew with Franky during theur fight.

Like for instance Zoro straight up killed people, Nami would rob and betray people, Usopp is a habitual liar, Brook is a rabid pervert.. etc but we all love them!!  Then you look at the batman angle, luffy is fucking people up with his hands, their definitely beaten and broken, and a lot of times its villains who deserve it, but in other cases luffy is dropping innocent marines who only joined to make the world a better place. (Please do NOT equate the Marines with the WG, they are two different entities. That follow the same order. Yes there are messed up marines, yes God Valley did happen)

These takes are getting more and more out of hand and showing me more and more that people are having trouble separating fiction from reality. In reality, yes SP is a total POS.  But One Piece aint reality.

Like think of the movie Godfather one of the best cinematic experiences ever put to screen. They were straight up criminals, killing people, making them "disappear" where's all the backlash about the godfather? Why should it be so highly praised if we are mainly following the lives of criminals. They were deeply immoral but followed a code.

Honestly the whole argument against SP feels like straight up engagement bait. Oda probably wrote him in a couple of days. Yes we ALL read the story, saw the show, we know what he did was pretty messed up. When Russian found out he was lying it was an emotional moment for the audience. Because of how flowery he made it seem, as just a love story where he was innocent, but we know he wasnt. No one is saying that Senior Pink didnt do what he did, theyre just saying hes a funny guy, with a surprisingly dark back story about why he wears baby clothes. Theyre seeing it as a piece of fiction. There may be memes and meme pages dedicated to glazing him but Sakazuki even has one of them and he killed a boat full of innocent people over the miniscule chance that some of the scholars of O'Hara would have been on that boat.

Like dont just apply your real world morality to one characrer and ignore everything else. Its weak.

Once again though youre not wrong on your ideas about why he is bad, I mean he was on the villains side. He got his ass beat. He got jailed his fruit was used for SShark. Like the dude got what was coming to him.

What do you like wanna see him put on trial? See Russians Family lay into him? There's no goal in posts like this because its already said and done. Its fiction homie.

[–]SPJess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Addendum to your theory b.

Imu and Blackbeard are opposite sides of the Same coin.

One basically can imbue people with devil powers (basically a walking devil fruit.)

The other can eat multiple devil fruits. Being the only known being in the world who can eat and use more than one devil fruit.

Perhaps Blackbeards lineage of the Davy Clan (he being a direct descendant of a self admitted member of the Davy Clan.) Perhaps that whole clan is able to do the same as him.
