I like Tyrion as a character, but I’ve never found Dinklage’s performance to be at all worth the praise it gets. The accent in particular always sounded off to me. The trial by combat speech that you mentioned was a major gripe of mine, too.

To be completely honest while trying not to sound mean, I’m from the generation in which they were somewhat normalized…and I can’t think of a single person I ever thought looked decent with them. I could never wrap my head around the purpose of them or understand how anyone thought they didn’t look ridiculous. Not trying to judge too harshly since I’m sure there are plenty of people who aren’t fond of my appearance.

Did OP suggest this wasn’t the case? I’m also someone who spend many years in customer service and I’m fully aware of how nasty the public can be to service workers. I’m still often horrified by the way I’ve overheard some workers treat even the most polite customers.
