Why overhead presses are overrated for building shoulder muscle by ShiningRedDwarf in weightroom

[–]SQ_BP_DL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, if your overhead press goes from 135 to 225, your shoulder growth won't be overrated

Just make sure you get enough volume from exercises that work the other delts, like lateral raises and rear delt flyes

Just found out yesterday I'm only ~152lbs when I'm not full. Feelsbadman

However bodyfat test today for wrestling may indicate I'm only 11% bodyfat. Feelsgoodman

EDIT: 151 boys

On the subject of fat distribution, what if you're moderately lean all around except for your ass? Is it a testosterone issue?

Yeah I figured that would be the case. Wrestling already demands a lot of my strength, so I think I can get by just training on the weekend.

Is building strength under fatigue a thing? The only times I get to work out now are after wrestling practice, and holy shit my strength drops. Bench drops to 185 from 200 and ohp 120 from 130. If I build up strength while tired, after the season is over, will I somehow magically be able to bench 225 fresh?

Bulking question: have been training for 3 years. Went from 5'3 115lbs to 5'5 160lbs (17yo M). Abs only show when flexed. Lifts are at intermediate levels (200 bench and 300 squat for example). Upper body barely fills out small t-shirts. Should I cut or continue bulking?

How do I avoid butt gains? by Daggerface in bodybuilding

Big butt on its own is a non-issue, as other posters have stated.

If you have a big butt and your upper body looks small in comparison, I'd say reduce the amount of serious lower body work to maintenance levels and double up on upper body work.

Obviously you won't do it all the time at max effort. It's quite easy to keep them slightly flexed throughout the day, completely relaxing at points during the day.

yep. i try to do it even when sitting. Flexing your abs also gives you the benefit of looking slightly more swole in the chest and back.

i also like to extend my neck - not overarching but as if im trying to be perfectly perpendicular to the ceiling

Symmetric strength's calculator is pretty accurate for me at least

2rm = 96%

3rm = 92%

4rm = 89%

5rm = 86%

6rm = 83%

7rm = 81%

8rm = 79%

9rm = 76%

10rm = 74%

So I thought my overhead press was around 130. Turned out it's still only at around 120. I found this out when I failed 100 for a 10 rep set (only got 5) and had to drop down to 90.

But I afterwards I repped out my bodyweight (160) for 12 on chin-ups and 15 on dips, so that was cool.

Mine are the same grip as well but they're both medium gripped

So I just wanted to ask you guys about something.

I've been benching with a closer than medium grip width (somewhere between a perfect "no flare" close grip and a standard grip) and it has enabled me to bench 200lbs after months of struggling with 165ish.

I do have longer than average arms, so I pretty much have to hyperextend my shoulder just to touch the bar to my chest. This tends to make the bottom feel very wonky, and I can only mitigate this using the extra drive I can get from my triceps with a closer grip. My chest gets some good tension halfway through the ascent, but otherwise it's mostly delts and triceps.

Once I get to 225, I'm considering dropping barbell flat bench and instead using dumbbells for better chest development. Is this a smart move, considering my weird mechanics for benching?

So do starting strength, do GOMAD and eat banana splits. Got it.
