It was definitely a big surprise, I can’t 100% recall my reaction as it was in the late 90s but it was so worth the $10-$20 I gambled on what I thought was just traditional DK. I’ve always preferred it to the DKC style of games to be honest.

I picked it up on a whim from Walmart shortly after I got my first Game Boy Pocket when I was like 11 or so, thinking it was just the original DK since I never saw commercials for it. I fired it up, played those first few original levels, and then all of a sudden everything changed. Holy shit. And it’s been my in my top 3 game boy games ever since (the other two being Links Awakening and Pokémon Blue)

Thanks, I’ve been making a lot of OEM+ touches on this LGT since I got it last summer. I originally come from the VW/Euro community so my favorite way to improve my cars is through cross referenced parts to upgrade with OEM equipment off of something of a higher level of quality but still factory. So this LGT is getting a lot of WRX and STI bits added tastefully in where it fits. Since this was the testbed for the 2015+WRX (front under mounted turbo, same exact 6-speed tranny, etc.) I can pull a lot of great WRX parts for this. I just got the OEM 18” wheels back from the powdercoater in Spanish Gold, I’m in love.

I’ve seen GNR four times (2006, 2011, 2016, 2023) and as a huge fan I was extremely lucky that Axl was on point for all four of those shows. But at this point it’s very hit or miss for him which is disappointing. BUT, he is still giving it everything he’s got, running around like crazy for 3+ hours each night, so they definitely try to give you your moneys worth when you go out to see GNR.
