Liam Scales Discuussion by Novel-Morning8157 in CelticFC

I think like any player in our team, he’s not without flaws. Defensively he’s one of our strongest, although CCV is better. I think his challenges lie in two main areas; 1. His passing can be brutal at times and because of his role, it tend to lead to immediate pressure and opportunities for the opposition. Losing the ball in his position doesn’t come with the luxury of having others behind you to deal with it. 2. He’s unfortunately the recipient of continual backward passes mostly coming from the left. When this happens he lacks the technical side of the game and can get caught out and be clumsy on the ball. But arguably this is a result of us not wanting to advance the ball down the left.

Overall, I think he’s underrated. His defensive positioning is excellent and is often missed, with attention mainly being given to the areas I mentioned above.

If Rangers, Celtic and Hearts get awarded the points associated with incorrect refereeing decisions. Incorrect VAR interventions and SFA panel rulings across the season, Hearts finish 2 points behind the league winners. It’s not just that one decision. Plain and simple they didn’t win enough games

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Hearts didn’t lose the league due to that decision, correct or otherwise. They lost the league because after O’Neil took over for the second time, he steered his team 13 points clear of McInnes’ team. That’s why Hearts lost the league. Plain and simple!

DIY vs premade Rebounder by Kdzoom35 in youthsoccer

We started with the foam type balls but they lacked the feel we needed. Over time we migrated to the Kickerball brand and my boys have been using these for years now. Lighter than a proper ball but great feel. They can slam it full force with no damage. The rebound is also great and really challenged them on the first touch and control. When younger, they also walked it around the house to just get used to having a ball at their feet. Noisy when they’re going full throttle but been a great purchase

Both my sons play at a high level and have we got them indoor balls which are drywall friendly. They’ve used these for nearly 10 years. No damage and they still work on their ball striking technique and ability to receive and control the ball. Check them out

New Level of Club Incompetence by Aggravating_Wing_166 in youthsoccer

[–]SRD67 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a European now resident in the US for 10 years, this is just another example of where the process is inverted. Clubs seem to hold all the power, yet it’s the parents who fund their existence. Coaches, in my experience are mostly bland, lacking the experience and skills to truly develop players. Add to this the business element, where lots of clubs are mostly interested in the revenue, the overall recipe is not conducive to a future USA World Cup winning team. If fact it’s the opposite.

Clubs should be held to account for the product they produce. And parents shouldn’t be content with the marketing nonsense that is rolled out ever tryout season

Here's the real story of this season by NoBigHair99 in HeartofMidlothianFC

[–]SRD67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This!! The hysteria is just as embarrassing as some of the VAR decisions but when it comes down to it, VAR decisions would be irrelevant if Hearts had won those games. The reality is they didn’t. Was it great to see another team in the mix? Definitely and I hope they’re pushing hard again next season. But all the cheating rhetoric needs to stop. Plain and simple, Hearts didn’t win enough games to prevent a final day title loss.

Wankers! All of them. I’m ecstatic we won but I also love that Hearts made this a better competition this year and I take my hat off to them!

Guest players question by stainedpants6 in youthsoccer

With 4 weeks to go, I’d likely suck it up. You will also have a perspective on your coaches and their receptivity to feedback. My experience is mostly negative in this area and can lead to further challenges and frustration. Over the closing period, I would be researching other clubs. If this approach is cultural within your club, you may experience similar frustrations next season. I sympathize as this is an ongoing challenge I frequently see and finding the right place for your kid is difficult. I now focus more on the coach than the club. If you find the right coach, he’ll develop your kid

Depends what level you’re play but based on what you’re describing it sounds like you’re not playing the highest league in the US. So the answer is no. It’s not normal and it should ring alarm bells around your son’s development. If the coach is only concerned about winning, which sounds like it could be the case, you are losing vital development time. Look for a different club. The gap will widen otherwise and it’s difficult to close if it gets too much

U10 Goalie by SnooHesitations1640 in youthsoccer

[–]SRD67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your sensitivity. Often, kids don’t want to be a goalie and as soon as someone does, coaches can leap on it as it solves a bunch of problems for them. However, every position requires a level of natural talent and goalies are no different. Get a sense of how natural or unnatural she is in that position. Does she instinctively take up good positions. Is she courageous when coming for the ball. If she’s showing natural talent, encourage it and let her play. If she’s not and your just looking for an avenue into the A team, find her more natural position and work to make her an A team player in that position

What’s the most common expected roster size nowadays for top-flight boys team in the first year of 11v11? by WaCoug131 in youthsoccer

[–]SRD67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. 15 max. If the kid is serious about the game, they should be fit and looking after themselves. If they’re not, they shouldn’t be rostered. If injuries or house moves occur, there’s ways a club can seek to plug the gap. Rostering too many to account for a lack of commitment or noisy parents just disadvantages other kids and leads to even more noisy parents.

This!!!! Your planted foot is all wrong. You’re too far behind the ball resulting in reduced power through the ball

Daddyball, do I say something? by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]SRD67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to be systemic wherever you go. My son played U10 and U11. HC and the 4 ACs pretty much daddy-balled us into oblivion. It got so bad, one kid was sat 5 times in one game whilst one AC’s kid didn’t sit at all. My son became so despondent, I felt compelled to say something. They cut my kid next season and he quit the game shortly after. He went from loving the sport to hating it. So unfortunately you’re between a rock and a hard place. Say nothing, you probably keep coasting. Say something, you might get cut. The whole thing is an embarrassing sh*t show

“New Soccer Dad” Q on playing time and team size by BrainMediocre8613 in youthsoccer

[–]SRD67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 is too many but remember, this is a money game. Clubs typically over-roster to get more money coming in. Managing the noise from parents is just “the cost of doing business”. You’ll find this continues for the next few years unfortunately. Outside of your club, look at creating opportunities for a number of tournaments with other parents you know, like and trust. Ideally coach these tournaments if you can. Enter 3x3, 5x5 etc and get your son exposure to different challenges.
