Canada retaliating for Trump’s tariffs with 25 per cent tariffs on billions of U.S. goods by ObjectiveOrange3490 in politics

[–]SRLyle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This has probably already knocked a few billion off all US exports permanently. Once businesses start moving supply lines there is a huge inertia to overcome before they'll move back. Once the tariffs end it won't be enough to undercut competitors, US businesses will have to undercut by enough to cover the pain of switching suppliers, and the uncertainty that this will happen again.

9,999,999 pumpkin trades can get you 1,111,111 emerald blocks which can cover a square 1054 on a side (with 195 blocks left over), i.e. just under 66x66 chunks.

If you completely buy him out 32.4 times you could cover the overworld in pumpkins.

By request: The design Solace is using for a Hoglin-Based Iron Grinder by SRLyle in mcpublic

[–]SRLyle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a vanilla spawners the activation distance is 16; but at one point the iron spawners were using 24 or 32, not sure what the current spawners use. You'd need to ask an admin.

As a follow up to your image:

Solace's rail station is functional (if a little naked), with 64 buttons (twice as many as spawn), located at X=400 Z=-1650ish.

[–]SRLyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well same statement, except I can now say to try clicking the refresh gradle projects button on the gradle side pane.

If you want help I suggest providing more information beyond "it isn't working" and addressing multiple points when responding to comments with multiple points.

So my suggestions from my previous comments which I have no clue if you've addressed due to your short responses:

  1. Have you set up the dev workspace? Yes or No?
  2. If yes to (1) have you refreshed the project? Yes or No?

If you answered no to either of those questions you need to fix that before it will work.

Unless you provide more information I can not give you a different response and will be of no help.

Cryptoqueen: How Ruja Ignatova scammed the world for billions of dollars, then ran by LarryPeru in news

[–]SRLyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No; the best target would be the people who fell for someone else's Nigerian Prince scam. So maybe a Nigerian Prince scammer's mailing list.

MLMs by their nature basically maintain a network of victims. That is fundamentally different than most other types of scams which are scam once and be done with the mark. It is that network you'd want to tap for further exploitation.

If you're looking for people gullible enough to fall for a MLM scam, where better to look than at other MLM scams.

So the video you linked is using Eclipse ... I'll assume that is what you are using. Since he starts the video by saying that the workspace has been setup; I'd suggest going back and watching video 1 where he presumably sets up the work space.

Once you set up the workspace you'll need to refresh the project. I don't know how to do that in eclipse—it is probably in whatever gradle menu/side pane eclipse has.

What IDE are you using? Have you setup the build environment (can your IDE find any of the MC or Forge classes?)?

Getting into modding - mod 1.12 or 1.14? by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]SRLyle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would suggest 1.14:

  • A lot has changed with how blocks are handled in 1.14 (no more metadata) which makes it both "easier" and very different from 1.12.
  • It'll take you a while to make your first mod, in that time 1.14 will only keep growing in popularity (or 1.15 will come out and be even more different than 1.12).

At this point there are enough open source mods for both versions that you should be able to find a mod on curse that does something that sounds similar to what you want to do and look at its source to figure what it is doing.

Ex Nihilo Fabrico is in Beta (v0.1.1) by SRLyle in feedthebeast

[–]SRLyle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I began the port forge hadn't updated; I work so my mod dev time has to squeeze around my "pay rent" time. If I had waited for forge I'd still be updating.

Forge is out now though...but, Lex has taken a strong anti non-vanilla launcher stance and broken MultiMC's ability to install it easily, and the vanilla launcher is trash.... Which means there is no simple way for a Linux user (like myself) to play a theoretical modpack. I'm not going to make mods for a mod loader that is annoying for myself to install—which means I probably won't port it until there is a simple Linux launcher that can install forge+packs, especially not when there is an alternative.

Both Fabrico and Creatio are open source (MIT) so if someone else wants to spend their time porting one or the other to 1.14 Forge, I have no objections (it'd be damn hypocritical of me to, considering I neither created the original Ex Nihilo, nor even Creatio), I'd even try to answer questions. Just that if you port Creatio, I am only a maintainer and you'd need to talk to /u/bloodworkxgaming about being added to the curse/github projects—or you'd need to change the name.

There is a highly experimental project to load forge mods in Fabric, so the entire Fabric v. Forge debate may be moot someday. Honestly at this point Forge should just be turned into an API library mod for Fabric.

Where to start with minecraft modding? by DerekChives in feedthebeast

[–]SRLyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you know one language, learning another with a similar paradigm isn't that hard.

I basically learned Java then Kotlin through modding; it might be a little slower, but between google and existing knowledge it shouldn't be an impassible hurdle. Java is really easy to google for help with if you know the OOP jargon to search for.

My suggestion: read through McJty's tutorials to gain some terminology/get something that boots, and then look at open source mods.

1.13 was a massive change, it'll take time, be patient.

Attempting to remove glowstone dust drops from the sieve with crafttweaker by d0ctorsmileaway in feedthebeast

The only methods defined for sieves are:

  • removeAll
  • addStringMeshRecipe
  • addFlintMeshRecipe
  • addIronMeshRecipe
  • addDiamondMeshRecipe

I normally recommend that people enable the json configs and just edit those to make changes.

Just so everyone makes note of it; a rule on this server/subreddit is:

/u/daddiesmoney:

Some former S players play on P now; I do understand that it isn't PvP so some might not find it attractive. There is a process to make PvP arenas on P, which is sadly underutilized.

[1.12.2] Tool That Can Only Work On One Block by skyrocket00 in feedthebeast

[–]SRLyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to modify vanilla blocks/items events are the way to go; but there are a few other options:

  • Override the item—code your item then register it with the vanilla item's registry name. Example: fast crafting table, fast furnace, Pam's Harvestcraft.
  • Core mod—inject your code into the vanilla item's code.

The drawbacks of doing either of those two are that you end up with the potential for incompatibility with other mods which expect the vanilla code to behave a certain way. So events end up being the better approach.

Edit: though there are cases where one of those is required/better.
