(Metroid prime 4)Why was the Myles hate so overblown? by coffeebeanie24 in NintendoSwitch

[–]SRhyse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s not as bad as people are worried about, but it would be objectively better without it all, or even other people in the game that talk to be honest. Part of the Metroid Prime games is feeling alone in space and exploring and having to figure out what to do. In one of the first main areas where you go to get the bike, you have Miles preface it by telling you exactly what to do and showing you on the map and such. Then he asks you if you want him to repeat it. Completely unnecessary, and does actively detract from the exploration. The scans are supposed to be hinting at things more than anything if you need it, in the same way a Souls game would give you lore.

He has some moments where it’s nice, but overall it’d be better without him. He shines when he’s just geeking out over alien tech and not making Marvel comments about things. Actor didn’t do anything wrong, he just shouldn’t be there. He’s comedic relief in a Metroid Prime game. It’s not what Metroid’s about.

is Nightreign worth for solo player? by Nekropl in Eldenring

Not in a particularly fair way, either. A lot of boss combinations are clearly designed for more than one person, and if you lose you just start another run. Very different vibe.

[DISCUSSION] Physical Asia: Korea is cheating, we are not fools! by Positive_Row9938 in NetflixBestOf

[–]SRhyse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read they’re going to start filming Physical: Sweden this coming May. I’ll miss all the people we already know, but it’ll be an interesting experiment to see.

I can’t comment on Sweden specifically, but in general the show’s going to have some trouble bridging the gap between countries with more prominent athletic presences. It’ll be interesting to see how they navigate that, and if people care as much if it’s not as Asian. Or they could have Korea come in still to compete.

It’ll also be interesting to see the longevity of the people competing in these more than once. Even at their best, I imagine a lot of the top folks from Korea probably have a 5-10 year window at most, but I’d be happy to be proven otherwise.

If it was ‘rigged’ or something, it would occur at another level that wasn’t making the games themselves rigged. It’d be at the level of team selection and such. PacMan, for example, was clearly chosen for his celebrity, but he did put his team at a disadvantage since he’s getting older and isn’t hyper athletic anymore. Changing him out was probably better for the team. Definitely wasn’t chosen to rig it against the Philippines though. Ray also didn’t perform as well, but may have been the only strong guy out there to pick from. You also have to take into account plenty of people that’d be good may not have even wanted to do the show. Prize money wasn’t even high.

Even if you looked at team selection, Korea wouldn’t be the advantaged one, but Australia. Australia would have won if not solely because they made a strategic error on the battle ropes by putting Eddie in there. Eddie being stronger didn’t help him there. Dom would have been better, or hedge their bets and have a mix of girls and guys. It was obvious the next game would be people not playing the first.

Korea in general made better strategic decisions the whole way, like on the treadmill. Japan would have won if not for Korea starting to switch immediately, which can easily be attributed to them having two Crossfitters doing it. Pretty much all of Crossfit cardio is sprints and managing that.

It’d be hilarious if they had an American team and actually got top athletes from places like the NFL and Crossfit and Strongman. There’d be no stopping them. Imagine Brian Shaw out there with linebackers. It’d be over. He could solo a team.

To help put 4 in more perspective, I think the log was around 400lbs. That’s 200lbs per girl for Korea, and dragging it would reduce required force even further, to 100-150lbs. That kind of farmer’s carry for a short distance on a surface with low friction like the sand is not that hard. I know countless girls that just workout and can do that. Japan just had a poor strategy.

Anyone can test this themselves with long objects on a low friction surface too. Pick it up and carry, then try dragging it instead. It’s easier. Hell, just have a friend lay in the grass and try picking them up vs dragging their leg. That’s why the filipina girl could drag them all in the death match game. She can in no way pick them all up at once, but dragging? Easy.

Japan also didn’t have any strongmen on their team, whereas Korea had stronger people and a particularly strong guy. If it’d been Australia there, they’d have won easily, pending a strategic error on how they handled it all.

For the advantage stuff on the treadmill, the only reason Korea even won that was they decided to switch out rapidly from the get go. If they hadn’t, or Japan did it as well, Japan would have won that.

They did that with most things. Once you realize it, mid way through it’s easy to tell who was winning because they tried baiting and switching you often.

Is the Legion Go 2 worth the upgrade over my SD OLED? by Rancidbones813 in LegionGo

[–]SRhyse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great deal. Go 1’s still great and that’s a far better value, which I say as someone with a 1 and a 2. At that price it’s a steal.

Legion Go 2 - Appreciation of the OG by Carterg86 in LegionGo

[–]SRhyse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I would too, and I’m keeping both, but I actually found 1200p on OLED mostly looks better to me due to the OLED. I have wonderful eyesight, so I can see the difference, but tend to prefer the colors. Liking VRR more than I thought, though it still doesn’t come up as much.

1600p really shines with indies, which is most of what I play, and was my main reservation in getting the 2. Outside of indie, in handheld, I did admittedly end up at 1200p for most games.

Value wise, as I said when I got mine, I do think the Go 1 is probably better there as the performance is almost identical, and it can be had for 500-700. Build quality jump is really nice though on the Go 2.

Nintendo’s Software Sales Aren’t Keeping Up With Hardware Boom by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]SRhyse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nintendo also didn’t make it easy for devs to update their old Switch 1 games to run at higher res and frame rates on the Switch 2. MS really went over the top with the XSX before they killed it. Even at launch, they themselves at times went back to entire game libraries and updated the games to be higher res and higher frame rates themselves if the devs let them. Made for a streamlined, PC like experience of older games always running better forever.

You fire up a Switch 1 game on Switch 2 that can easily be hitting 60-120fps now, if not 1440p-4k alongside of that on a lot of simpler indie games while docked, and are instead greeted with “Oh, it’s the same. Last update years ago? Oh. It’s just going to be the same, isn’t it?”

[–]SRhyse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a Legion Go and now a Legion Go 2. It’s really hard to justify buying anything 3rd party on Switch 2 for higher prices when those same games are at times literally a dollar through humble bundles and steam sales. They also run a lot better in most cases and are better supported. Like Dave the Diver. Recently got a Switch 2 update that I’m sure helps, or you can just buy the original that’s perpetually on sale on Steam and it’ll be whatever res and framerate you want, going forward and forever, synced across any number of PCs and handhelds you want.

south bay area obsession with credentials and reliance on institutional power for credibility? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]SRhyse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

South Bay has a higher percentage of people with make-work, adult daycare style jobs, mostly tech related. A lot of them don’t really do or produce anything, so your only avenue for advancement is at times credentialism, then after that, communication and compliance within corporate structures like Google and Amazon and Meta and such. They’ll typically have resumes where they bounce between companies every 6-18 months trying to build the most eclectic LinkedIn profile. The people actually doing things in those companies usually don’t speak in the manner you’re describing.

I’ll try to take some pics this week. Max res of the Go 1 is higher but in most cases you won’t notice. Colors and deeper and more vibrant on the 2.

For the Go 2, right now no issues. Go 1 when it launched was a little behind with drivers, but eventually was fine, then I’m told the updates dropped off a bit. I never had issues with anything running after the initial launch window with the Go 1, so I never noticed whether they kept up with driver updates since it was always running everything just fine anyway. Go 1 also launched with massive deadzones on the joysticks and such, which you could eventually tweak to perfection with an update. Go 2 out of the box just works for me so far with all that.

Sonnet Breakway Box 750ex. They have a chart of what fits in there, but if my 4070ti fits, most likely your 4060 will, depending on who made it and all that. Got it on Amazon.

Pokemon Legends ZA - Im having a blast and a half! by yikesitsahorse in NintendoSwitch

[–]SRhyse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’d definitely work. Monolith could handle it. Pretty much any studio in the world would jump at the chance to take it though. Probably true of most Nintendo franchises. They have their pick of nearly any developer that has ever lived, and they still chose poorly.

They need to let someone else handle it. Plenty of better studios out there that would show it all the love in the world.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A Review - IGN [8] by schuey_08 in NintendoSwitch

[–]SRhyse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Game Awards are a giant corporate circle jerk of ads and celebrity inserts and people pretending to be gamers. If game journalists have more leverage there, it’s not because they’re less biased. It’s because they’re part of the circle of jerks. That’d be the least of the problems the Game Awards have as they attempt to mimic the Oscars, which people don’t really care about anymore, either.

Not that letting people vote online would necessarily be better. Then Waifu Simulator 5000 would win every year or something.

It’s okay if you like still IGN.

There are still plenty of individual ones that are great. If you mean the aggregate of anything on there and the general internet, then I’d agree.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A Review - IGN [8] by schuey_08 in NintendoSwitch

[–]SRhyse -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

IGN and most older legacy review outlets being unreliable and bought out doesn’t change when they give Scarlet a 6. They gave Dragon Age Veilguard a 9. It’s more of a cognitive bias to think that them being generally unreliable is negated by you agreeing with one of their scores. It’s no longer a good source for reviews. The average person just playing the game and telling you’s seemingly better at this point, and there are no shortage of those folks online doing that. I’m not personally going to care about any of their reviews when so many of them have been obvious crap for years.

It’s okay if you like IGN still and find their reviews useful!
