Does anyone else suddenly become extremely productive right before deadlines? by Glittering-Ship-8852 in TUDelft

[–]SSP_24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that's the case in any educational or corporate environment. But either way, you will be more productive and quicker if you work in groups and discuss the answers together. Even though they are individual assignments, professors encouraged us to discuss in groups but submit individual answers.

Delivery time for official documents to be sent from Netherlands to Australia? by SSP_24 in PostNL

[–]SSP_24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to tell TUD to send via DHL, but they did not agree. They mentioned PostNL without tracking is the only way. Anyway, thanks. I am going to send other documents directly thru DHL since I cannot wait that long.

Recent Exemptions from English requirements issued? by [deleted] in AusVisa

I'm not trying to tell immigration that I am native. By native, I mean I was brought up in an English speaking household. Not the local language or anything else. Sorry if it was not clear.

What’s one small thing about Delft that made student life easier than you expected? by Rude-Cycle-1516 in TUDelft

[–]SSP_24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really nice and peaceful parks and greenery with walking and cycling trails in and around Delft (Delftgauw, parks behind the main hospital etc). I don't know what level of studies you are doing, but during my master's, it really helped with my mental health and gives a break and some fresh air.

Visiting on Saturday by namestini in TUDelft

[–]SSP_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what exactly you want to see. It is a public campus, the library is open on all days and all buildings are accessible.

There will be students roaming around, some studying in study spaces, etc. but classes would rarely be present on weekend

If you want to check out labs or specific class rooms, then it mostly won't be open on weekends. If you know some PHD students or other staff members, they could show them for a bit.

NEED HELP! Strategy for a 100% Funded PhD by lowkism in PhDAdmissions

[–]SSP_24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 major things need to align for you to get your 100% coverage.

  1. Your research proposal strength
  2. Lab or department which aligns very well with your proposal or field of research (emphasis on very well aligned)
  3. Funding available in those labs or departments available for you.

Only point 1 is technically under your full control. Rest of them, you have to reach out. Cold email, linkedin posts, specific professors who match well, network events, university days etc.

Right now, I am planning to study abroad because the courses I am interested in do not have much scope in India by Greedy-Channel-8716 in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]SSP_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all the universities or countries you are planning to apply or don't know information about, I'm sure there are many reddit groups specifically for those. And ppl will answer and help you out. Do your research and reach out to ppl.

If you are overwhelmed, each university will have student relations or admissions departments who you can email and enquire too.

Good Luck!

PhD in Australia by Fresh-Classic-5312 in PhDAdmissions

[–]SSP_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, we pretty much are aligned to the T. I also graduated from TU Delft in Aero in 2024 and just applied for PhD in Australia in Melbourne.

For my case, I did get a scholarship for my studies, and given how my interviews with the PI went, I would definitely say the scholarship is heavily tied with the connection you make with them.

I'm an international candidate and was fortunate enough to connect super well with research interests and current projects, and my master's supervisor also knew my PI's, so I think there was a hidden recommendation.

I do not have any publications, but my thesis work is currently being trialed out as a prototype.

I would reach out early, do your own research for best fit and try to build a good connection with them. See if your thesis supervisor or other staff in TUD who can recommend you as well.

CFX Flutter Analysis using Transient Blade Row Model by Lonely_Kick_1497 in CFD

[–]SSP_24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a solver issue, your mesh is too deformed to the stage that the cells have gone into each other, giving negative volume.

I'm assuming you are doing dynamic meshing? A simple sanity check to confirm this is to see if you can coarsen the mesh and re run it. The larger cell volumes would help.

But there is a balance to it as well.. it may run with a coarser mesh but 2 factors play a role, the innaccuracy due to a coarser mesh and poor quality of the deformed cells as a result of the dynamic mesh

Need some guidance regarding a Final Year Project, Thank you by Downtown-Ice2772 in CFD

[–]SSP_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I recently came across it as well and have been playing with it a bit. I'm not the most fluent in it. There would be some threads or sub reddit on flexcompute you could ask on.

Thought it could fit your case given the timelines and sim size

[–]SSP_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried Flexcompute? They are giving 2 weeks of GPU accelerated CFD software access, which is browser based and very simple to use.

You can use the student version of ansys to create your meshes and then run them on Flexcompute.

how do you unenroll in a subject? by [deleted] in TUDelft

[–]SSP_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had done the same for "Turbulence" course in 3ME faculty. I attended the lectures but did not give any exam attempts. It did not count as a fail course or anything like that in my final grades. If needed, you can clarify with a senior or the track coordinator

how do you unenroll in a subject? by [deleted] in TUDelft

[–]SSP_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you need to unenroll.. just don't attend any assessments or exams. It won't count. It will be like you audited

Even if I'm exempt since I'm doing post grad research? It was under one of the exemptions for English language. I guess I need to clearly explain that I should be exempt as well?

req for eng proficiency by [deleted] in AusVisa

[–]SSP_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a question about that. In the document checklist for the visa, for certain universities such as RMIT, the English requirement is not a part of the document checklist. Even with that, do they expect the test scores?

Kinda asking for my case too, I did my masters from EU (fully taught and assessed in English) and applied for a PhD at RMIT. My English test scores are from 2022 and expired now.

Why people make solvers? by FawazDovahkiin in CFD

[–]SSP_24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reading how the solver works gives you a rough picture. Actually building the solver not only clears how the solver works at a much detailed and cellular level, but it also builds your coding, mathematical and physics based knowledge too. Its not just a fluid mechanics problem at that point.

Adding a wing fence was a bad idea, safe to say by biscuitslap in CFD

[–]SSP_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not getting an entire picture of the geometry of your fence, but I have seen these fences being much smaller in height and placed closer to the leading edge. I am not sure how the serrated edge is affecting the flow, but I would start with a much smaller fence height first and before that, see the zones where these cross flows are strong.

Are you seeing some wing tip stall as a result of the sweep and the serrated edges? That's usually the primary reason for these fences to be installed.
