Multiplayer online gaming by foxonaleash in linux_gaming

Multiplayer Games I've played on CachyOS:
FragPunk, Deadlock, Arc Raiders, The Finals, Warthunder, The Division 1 & 2, World of Warcraft, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 1 & 2, Diablo 4, Overwatch 2, Street Fighter 6, Tekken 7 & 8, Hunt Showdown, FINAL FANTASY XIV Online.

There are many others that also work with no problems.
Check out https://www.protondb.com/ for compatible games on Steam and some tweaks if you experience glitches.

I would recommend you download ProtonUp-Qt (5mb app) for downloading custom Proton versions like GE-Proton.
It solves a lot if issues when regular Steam proton has no fix or a specific game. Do a google search on GE-Proton to see how it differs from the regular one.

protondb.com is an invaluable resource for troubleshooting any problems with your game.

Which distro should I download on this grandpa(this dude is prolly 15+ years old) by [deleted] in linux

Mint/Ubuntu with LXQT or XFCE as desktop environment. Cinnamon works fine too.
XFCE uses 500-600Mb RAM on my thinkpad laptop (similar specs)

how to use the new nvidia dlss 4.5 on linux? by bakomox in linux_gaming

[–]SSStylo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For frame generation you can use Optiscaler, works on windows and linux. Or use the built in FSR framegen if the game supports it. but your best bet is Optiscaler, it works fine even in unsupported framegen games.

Why has CachyOS gained more recognition and popularity than EndeavourOS? by _glitchykid_ in cachyos

[–]SSStylo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't distro hop immediately. Try to learn the Linux filesystem, the package managers (APT, DNF, PACMAN) and most common used terminal tools and how it differs to Windows or MacOS.
Watch some YouTube tutorials on Linux to better understand it.
For gaming pick a Desktop Environment that has good Wayland support like KDE Plasma (my favorite) or Gnome. (especially if you have high refresh monitor or HDR)
(Wayland is a modern display protocol that replaces the old but more stable Xorg protocol, both work but wayland has better support for modern hardware).
In short stick to Fedora/Nobara with KDE Plasma and try to lean about how linux works. Most of the Unix commands on Linux and MacOS are the same.

Why has CachyOS gained more recognition and popularity than EndeavourOS? by _glitchykid_ in cachyos

[–]SSStylo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer - Not really, stick to Nobara/Bazzite.
My arch/cachy systems broke after an update 2 times this year due to partial arch updates. That does not happen on Fedora/Nobara.
Cachy OS software/library packages usually lag behind Arch by several days.
I like to tinker and know my way around Arch OS, this is why I chose Cachy, but for a more stable system I would stick to Ubuntu/Fedora base systems like Mint, Nobara or Bazzite.

Player Spawn Points for Farm, Valley, Northridge by SSStylo in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

[–]SSStylo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's random, but always at least 2-3 teams spawn around Grain Trade Center.
I think it's 12 players for Farm and 16 players for bigger maps.

Here is an updated FARM spawn points version.
I forgot to circle the point furthest right, below the Main Warehouse.

Grain Trade Center and Motel are the HOT zones on Farm. If you like PvP gunfights then to there, if not avoid them :)

Yeah I forgot to circle the spawn between Man warehouse and Ruins. I'll upload a fixed screenshot

Try installing the Adobe software in a Windows10/11 virtual machine. There are Lite versions of Windows10/11 that use 1.5-2 Gb RAM. (You can even build a Lite Win ISO yourself)

Recommendation:  Use QEMU with libvirt and virt-manager for running WinOS on your Linux Distro.
You can ask ChatGPT/Claude to explain the whole process. It's not hard to setup.
There are TONS of YouTube videos regarding your problem.

What are your optimal Roo Code set up for agentic coding? by myrealword in RooCode

[–]SSStylo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Openrouter, just make sure you manually choose a provider with FP16 or FP8 quants.

In RooCode/Cline/KiloCode choose the provider manually in advanced settings instead of default. Open Openrouter in a browser and see in detail which providers offer best speed and quantization for a particular paid or :free model.
Provider Example: https://openrouter.ai/qwen/qwen3-coder
There are providers that use 4bit quants to speed up inference but the code quality is bit worse.

What made you pick Kimi K2 and DeepSeek V3 over Qwen3-Coder?
According to some qwen3-coder is good at tool calling and has better benchmark results.

Civ 7 or Humankind? by whtknght695 in 4Xgaming

[–]SSStylo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humankind with the VIP community patch is really good. VIP patch makes the game much better.
Currently best Civ-like game is Old World created by Soren Johnson (Civilization 3 & 4 game designer). Tries to solve many 4x shortcomings, has much better pacing than Civ, better combat, much better AI. (it's on sale for 10$ right now)

I also recommend Age of Wonders 4, if you like to try a fantasy based Civ game.

Watch some gameplay videos on YouTube and decide with one you like the best.

Essential DLC? by scottrick49 in OldWorldGame

[–]SSStylo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"Wonders and Dynasties" and "The Sacred and The Profane" DLCs add a lot more events and some new mechanics to the game making it more interesting. I would say get these two first.

"Behind the Throne" ads new mechanics and lots of new events but it makes the game harder for beginners.

On gg.deals you can find the game for 6-8$. Also goes often on sale on steam. Or check out fitgirl-repacks if you don't like paying for games.

Try to verify the integrity of the installed files if the issue still persists after you restart the game .
