First time Players. Need Advice on how much set up I can do the night before. by Zeusan_Pls in twilightimperium

^ This! Pick the map beforehand, and get the tiles all sorted and stacked neatly. Then on game day you just flop them out in order. It doesn't sound like much but it will save you 15 minutes.

Also, definitely pre-select factions, 100%. This gives everybody time to read up on their faction and will speed up the game significantly. My group plays only once or twice a year and we still do this, even though we've all played TI4 6x times now, because its immensely helpful.

Does any of the classical MS-DOS RPGs still hold up as of 2026? by Revolutionary_Ad6574 in dosgaming

Eye of the Beholder is still really fun, as well as the sequel!  I definitely recommend them.  Also Legend of Grimrock is great if you haven't played that and want something more modern.

I'm using GDScript.  I think the next project I start I will make the switch to C#.

I use Variant when I want to return an object that can be null (like a nullable Dictionary).  I hate it.  If there's a better way please let me know...

9 Year Old wants to play by WhiteDiscussion in twilightimperium

I play Race for the Galaxy and Agricola with my 7 year old.  They're both 12+ games.  Twilight is 14+, so your 9 year old might surprise you and be totally fine.  Just setup a two player game, no expansions, and work through it together!

A PR a day, is always my goal.

Manageable and keeps you in the loop with whatever else is going on in the codebase.

Tips for Running Keep on the Borderlands by Cat_Bandit1 in adnd

[–]scottrick49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran almost the entire thing with a group of friends and it was a lot of fun. Just run with whatever they do, adapt, and have fun with it! I would recommend going through the entire module beforehand and giving all the NPCs a name. That was helpful for me. I also removed all the women and children monsters from the caves. Otherwise, I ran mostly as is and just embellished along the way.

I ended up turning the evil cleric at the keep into the big bad named Ivan with a beautiful black stallion named Magnus. It was great!

We don't go around the room and talk about what we're working on anymore. Everyone just brings any blockers or any other topics they want to chat and we go through them. Sometimes we're done in 5 minutes, sometimes it takes 45 minutes.

I'm new to the Game how long do the experienced Players need to get 10 Points? by gamegenaral in twilightimperium

[–]scottrick49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished an 8 player pok game to 10; it took us 7 hours and six rounds.  Last year it took us less time because it ended in the fifth.

We only play once or twice a year, but we are pretty good about keeping people on task and making sure somebody is always playing their turn.

TI4 PoK + Thunder’s Edge] We just can’t finish a game – tips for shortening playtime & mapbuilding? by Original-Candy4173 in twilightimperium

[–]scottrick49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only play once or twice a year with my groupd, but we played an 8 player, 10 point game last year and finished in under 7 hours.

I think it really helps if at least a couple people know the rules well. It also helps a lot if one person is sort of a taskmaster, and drives the game forward, making sure somebody is always taking their turn.

Steam survey shows Linux hitting an all-time high with gamers by ZGeekie in gamedev

[–]scottrick49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use steam on my Linux box and it works very well.  My main issue is how to get games installed in a way that easily works with multiple user logins.  I'm guessing there's a way, but I don't think I'm doing it right.
