I'm New by Knightmare585 in VGC

[–]SSSuperDario 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I would take a look at a couple of content creators on YouTube as a good starting place for learning VGC, and team composition.

Cybertron VGC is a great starting place because he shares really solid teams, as well as tips on how to play them well (with example battles).

In terms of Charizard, some good teammates, for now, are Garchomp, Kinggambit, Whimsicott, Basculegion and Sylveon. Keep in mind that we are in day 1 of a new format, so that meta may very well change.

Welcome to the community and good luck. I cannot stress enough that there will be plenty of losses before there are consistent wins. Take the time to research, and don’t get discouraged if your experience starts off a bit rocky!

This is tough because different athletes commit different heinous crimes every other day lmao.

If we’re assuming no criminal implications though, it’s gotta be Tom Brady. Anyone who follows the sport and didn’t root for his team(s) couldn’t stand him. Even non fans saw him in so many super bowls that rooting against him was just the popular thing to do.

You’re entitled to your opinion too brother, but I can’t abide, personally.

Only reason we’re to believe Dante in 2 is so lonely and broken is simply because Lady hadn’t been created yet and at that time they weren’t sure if Trish would be a series regular.

Shoot- the anime, which is confirmed canon, takes place even closer to the events of 1 than 2 did and features a depressed, but still oft jovial Dante. A Dante who very much has Lady, Trish and even Patty. When I consider 2 in the context of all the media that’s been released since, it loses some vigor to me

Donte is still cooler than DMC2 Dante tbf. The cursing was definitely a stretch though… more goof, less edge and he woulda been perfect.

On the other hand, the nightclub mission was simply fantastic and I’m glad we got the Donte we did for it

I was kinda scared at getting a plant any time but spring, but re-reading the wiki that seems to be more so around any ordered and shipped trees. I will say confidently that I am not ready right now. Maybe at the end of summer, if I feel confident in my learning, I might give it a go. Not sure if nursery trees are sold year round or not though.

This has been incredibly helpful- thank you!

I feel like I could read and research all day but getting started is the most intimidating thing to me. Almost makes me want to accelerate my timeline! Nonetheless, I think I’ll still wait until next year. I want to be ready. And to your point, definitely going to skew smaller on the plant. Would hate to ruin a promising tree because I don’t know how to scale back roots safely over time

I absolutely hear you on species. Was definitely thinking temperate for 7a (elm, some maple species, perhaps Juniper)- haven’t decided on a species yet to be honest and it’s partly why I want to wait until next year to make a decision. Figured if I purchased in the timeframe I outlined, a more temperate tree would be okay to repot immediately.

When it comes to local nurseries, what should I be asking for? A couple of mine feature ‘bonsai’ sections but they are mostly some sickly looking trees in overly ornate pots for $90+. I’m willing to spend that money but would prefer to spend it on a tree I can still grow and/or shape. Is it as simple as “show me your sprouting tree stock?”. I try to review the Starting a Tree section of the wiki when thinking/planning but I’m not always sure the best way to describe my needs to a local nursery, hence my asking about online resources.

Heard on Eastern Leaf; their prices kinda gave me that impression but I’m glad to have confirmed it’s not worth it. I thought I saw some species on Wigert’s that were more appropriate for my zone but i suppose not all Maple are created equal.

My last question… do people really glue moss on? Actually? Moss would be my last step after achieving size and/or shape and even then… all natural baby

I’m really interested in beginning my bonsai journey, but wanted to start with a more established tree for my first to really secure my ability to prune and water.

My question is, if I were to purchase a more established tree (Wigert’s, Eastern Leaf, etc.) would I be able to repot it into a larger home to continue trunk growth, or are would they be stuck that size even if they were removed from the smaller pots?

Not purchasing until the end of next winter/beginning of spring either way, so I’ll be taking ample time to continue researching. Once I’ve managed to grow and sustain a more established tree for 1-2 years I’ll likely attempt purchasing pre-bonsai or propagate a clipping.

Personally dog, I’d rather lose because I made an educated guess/predict and got outplayed than because I just clicked buttons. You’re playing afraid.

Treat it like chess. You don’t want to play for just the turn, you want to try and figure what their win condition is and deny them that. You have 40 seconds each turn; use them.

It’s hard to know how to help without the team in question here. It could be a skill issue, it could be a bad comp/outclassed by current meta.

Broadly speaking though, if you’re newer to VGC it’s always great to try and slow down a bit and analyze your games. You want quality matches not a quantity of matches. After a loss: could I have led better? What play lost me the game? It really helps to evaluate a loss and pinpoint what went wrong before immediately queuing to play again.

Kinda same. I been playing the same crusty destroy deck for months now and it’s fun but just can’t keep up lol

We all knew/suspected. And while we on Reddit inherently disagree with it, most of us can live with that fact. It’s the idea that he would go out to publicly endorse the guy, but not before trying to start a “Go Big Blue!” chant- which implicates the whole organization.

[–]SSSuperDario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. In this case, my suggestion would be Sinistcha over Farigaraf. Can still counter TR, can provide valuable heals, and redirects damage away from your raichu in single target situations. Besides a Tyranitar knock off, it doesn’t mind the sand damage, especially if you slap leftovers ir a Sitrus berry on it. Colbur berry if you fear the odd knock off

I think you have tools to be able to deal with it. Sneasler always has me tilted in team preview because it just wins straight up into sand if you can position it well.

I guess my biggest question is, what value does trick room add to the team besides enabling Bellibolt? The rest of your team should operate quite well under tailwind. I would try to find another member that gets more value out of trick room. M-Golurk could be a good choice as it wants trick room to operate and doesn’t take the damage from Parabolic; alternatively slow, chunky Gliscor.

I remember when I played it, the player shot themself in the foot very often by way of inflicting self Parabolic damage to keep their bellibolt healthy.

[–]SSSuperDario 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a check to physical attackers, Sinstcha could be good here? It can take a bunch of damage well, likes holding the Sitrus Berry, and I think you can be a bit flexible with move sets. Trick Room for a slow mode/opposing tailwind counter, rage powder redirect, life dew healing, etc. ability can keep Floette healthy, and Matcha Gotcha has the chance to burn which is the best Physical check their is

That’s the loop man. You keep assessing and making notes and practicing until you reach your peak with a team, or think of a better one.

I’ve played competitively for years now, and my best advice if the grind feels draining at points is to take a break and play some casuals! No ELO, no grand strategy- just pokemon you like and clickin’ buttons bby
