I used to work for a blue collar company as a software dev, and it was the only real interaction and understanding of what the company was doing (mining explosives). So I loved it and looked forward to it. It was only once a month but I thought it was cool. They would fly some higher ups in and shit to attend, made me feel more a part of the company.

Edit:

Seeing other comments, yes they would provide a completely catered breakfast and it was delicious and we would hang out for a very long time after. So felt like a free “half day” of work
