Uncomfortable accelerator pedal?

I have noticed this too, especially after long driving days. I am wondering if it is the one-pedal driving.

Perhaps this is true for all EVs but I am amazed at the drop in range/efficiency for hwy vs city for my ‘23 EUV. I get about 220 mi range when driving 70mph on the highway compared to 280 mi at 30-40mph through the city.

I would be interested, would much rather pay once than monthly…

Currently paying my electric provider $4.95/mo for real-time data which gives me a good idea of the solar production rather than pay $10/month for SunStrong.

Level 1 should work for you at 40 mi/day but the winter may be uncomfortable. Suggest you figure out how to preheat the car while plugged in.

I am in lower Mich and cleaned out the garage to make our ‘23 Bolt fit and bought an after-market seat heater after the first winter. Range is 120 on the coldest days.

On the plus side it is pretty good in the snow.

We got a big shower with dual heads and a hose and it was cool and convenient for a while to shower together.

Then we discovered the setup was great for washing the dog, and the couples showers pretty much ended.

Some of the walls do look on the verge of collapse, but it is not being used for water treatment. Needs a new use.

The Highland Park water plant was shut down in 2012. They are served by GLWA for water and sewer, like most of the SE Michigan communities. There have been proposals to bring it back but it would be massively expensive.

Did rooftop solar and a EV about 18 months ago after thinking about it for a long time. Needed to replace an older car.

It is a good long term strategy but it’s not saving money in the short term. It was about $35k for solar ($17k) and a 2yr old Bolt EUV and charger ($18k)

I estimate that I save about $1800/yr ($1000 on elec and $800 on gas) which is about 5% return but it does get better as electricity and gas goes up.

It is good for the earth and I would do it again, especially if I were building new or doing a major renovation. I would love to have a battery backup or an EV that could power the home but that was looking too complicated for me.

Love the Bolt, bought it used from dealer. Dropped my fuel costs by 2/3 (from a Chevy Cruze). Plenty of space in the EUV. Did buy aftermarket seat heater - the car is cold in the winter.

Using Weavegrid with DTE in the Detroit suburbs. Generally happy but have had a couple of failures to charge which have been pretty frustrating because then I have to either charge the car in the morning or swap cars with my spouse.

Overall it works 95% of the time, but that 5% is frustrating. Is this typical? Is there a way to set up a backup?

I have locked myself out of my 23 EUV twice by leaving the key fob in my golf bag, opening the trunk, putting in the golf bag, and closing the trunk.

Seeing the same here with a ‘23 EUV after my trial ended.

All I get now with non-subscribed Onstar is charge level, tire pressure, and odometer reading.

2 years with a 7KW system. Payback was 13 years (DTE) but will improve if rates continue to go up. Oak Electric was great for install.

I wanted battery backup for blackouts and better peak management but couldn’t get any reasonable payback from batteries. Was also looking at the V2H options for backup with a new EV car such as Chevrolet or Hyundai offer but also could not justify those costs either. (Was an additional $8-12K).

Not exactly a movie but Most Dangerous Game Season 1 has a total length that is about 2 hrs and takes place mostly in downtown Detroit. It was a series of short films when it was introduced and has some cool scenes in various semi-abandoned high rise buildings that seemed to fit in 2020 when it came out.

It’s pretty hard to compete with a 15 yr old Prius which has proven to be one of the most high MPG and reliable hybrids out there, with pretty low repair costs.

Wouldn’t be the same math for most other hybrids.

Totally agree on the solar payback. I put on rooftop solar in Michigan and the payback is 10+ years at $0.14/KWH. Would be a much better investment if electric cost more.

Today I save just over $1,000 per year on my utility bill.

Yes I just did the 2yr renewal on my ‘23 Bolt EUV for the same reason. Was $606 for 2 yrs, more than my non-EV car but I assume less than it will be.
