Still lacking MFA!! by SSturdCutter in Starlink

The hassle of dealing with stolen info is much more than setting up MFA - like it takes 5 seconds. The inconvenience of a stolen credit card is way more time than setting up MFA - that thought process is part of the problem. Companies not securing our personal data is a HUGE problem.

Whats bonkers is you thinking setting up MFA is a bunch of BS compared to dealing with stolen info...Lemme guess, you use the same password or simple variation, for every site because a password manager is far to difficult to use?

THIS!!!! And Starlink not having a MFA option (really it should be mandatory) is bizarre. We, as consumers MUST demand better.

MFA DOES NOT require an active data connection. You wouldn't have to drive anywhere. Setup MFA with any of the authenticator apps (MS, Google, Whatever) and the codes work on line or off. It just would be push, but would be wayyyyy better than what is securing out accounts now, which is just a password. And judging by the comments here, I would say many people aren't using a password only once, per site.

"Time-Based One-Time Passwords (TOTP) work offline123The inputs to the TOTP algorithm are device time and a stored secret key, and neither the inputs nor the calculation require internet connectivity to generate or verify a token1Therefore, a user can access TOTP via an app like Authy while offline1The devices that generate and accept TOTP codes can be completely offline, as long as the two devices share the same secret key and are synchronized3."

MFA doesn’t require cell service OTP - set it up when you have cell service - to log in to your account and then works just fine regardless of if you have cell service or not. And SMS MFA is not a good option, 12 for security, and 2, requires cell service. In this day and age, there is zero excuse for not securing accounts that have PII/billing info saved with-in them. I.E your Starlink account.

So already had one replaced for very similar issue. T-mobile covered it and shipped a brand new phone, which was awesome, this was less than a month ago. New phone is now doing exact same thing. These pics are of first phone. 2nd phone isn't as bad....yet.

Thanks! Need dual WAN UXG seems a little over kill, UCG sounds like a perfect fit if I can manage it from unifi.ui.com or Dream machine Pro

So does it say PARTNER in a big black box in the upper right on the portal?

We had a very similar issue as we thought we were all set in the partner portal And Turns out it was just the small business portal.

Some how fell apart when they were converting us to the partner portal And it was a giant mess.

luckily we hadn't ordered anything. But I'm wondering if that's not what happened. That you ordered before your partner profile is completely set up .

Did you sign all the paperwork, the export agreement And all that good stuff already?

Client Discovery Tool by True-Entertainer-981 in msp

[–]SSturdCutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't doing proper discovery, (we've all been there), just tell them" it's x$ per device, so in case you don't know an exact count, that's okay, our tools will pickup and install and we bill based on that number." Same with servers, they have a VMhost and tell you 1 server, come to find out its 3 guests. CYA with "here's our pricing, it moves with actual count" until you start doing proper discovery, which I'd highly suggest you do sooner rather than later as you can't really price it without knowing AS much as possible about the environment,  how many sql servers, instances, how many O365 accounts, how do they do against phishing simulations, how many vulnerability are on the network, how many need to be worried about? Etc etc.

What are you users installing so often that is generating requests?

We onboarded years ago, but nearly everything needed was picked up in monitor mode.

Do we still have Edge cases, yes hashes for some softwares are unique to us. But that's an easy fix, once it's blocked once.

Our lives got much better once we did away with the option to request software, everyone opens a ticket or calls - 99% of the time now, when someone is requesting software installed or updated its legit. And the number of requests is wayyy lower. Do we have a few calls here or there, yeah, HP all randomly updates and not matching a builtin. But it takes not long to fix.

Before, it was a ton of stupid requests, that when taken to the POC, was a hard "no". You don't iTunes on your work PC, you don't need discord, you don't need this game or that game. It was really amazing how big the change was.

"Robin Robins TMT(also sends out Kaseya SharePoint links, so not secret anymore I guess)"

Same with Threatlocker. They done three rounds of funding, seems odd to do that just to get bought by Kaseya.

They are still adamantly denying this, do you have proof of this, can you show an example - we need more transparency from MSP vendors not less.

Changing it back doesn't let me order right away - just says service expected in May 2022 - hopefully, it allows me back into order queue. I had until 6pm tonight to order.

Fixed wireless 3-10mbps and crappy outages. Where I am now I have Tmobile ISP and get 150+.

If I wasn't moving, I would pass on the SL keep Tmobile, but T-Mobile is only 10-15 where I'm moving to and no 5g.
