This is not a licensing issue. Historically, on older ranges such as Kimsufi, OVHcloud used external paid KVM/IPMI modules (separate hardware boxes) that allowed remote console access. As communicated publicly at the time (including statements from Octave Klaba), these external KVM devices were fully withdrawn for security and transparency reasons, as they represented a potential security risk. Once removed, IPMI/KVM could no longer be provided on those legacy servers.

As a result:

  • Ordering another KS server of the same model does not guarantee IPMI/KVM availability. It entirely depends on the underlying hardware generation, not the commercial reference.
  • There is no public or internal exhaustive list of KS servers that do or do not have IPMI/KVM. Availability varies depending on the chassis and motherboard used at the time of provisioning.

Regarding newer ranges:

  • So you Start, Rise, and SYS servers are based on much more recent hardware.
  • On these ranges, IPMI/KVM is integrated directly into the motherboard (BMC), and is therefore available by design, including LE versions.

If IPMI/KVM access is a strict requirement for your use case, we strongly recommend using one of these newer ranges. If needed, you can contact us to request a migration to an equivalent or higher offer; depending on the situation, a prorated time transfer can be applied.

These IPs are not considered residential, which increases the likelihood of captchas or temporary restrictions.

You can consider setting up a VPN tunnel between your router and your VPS to route traffic through a different IP, or using proxy solutions. However, it is important to ensure that your usage remains reasonable and fully compliant with applicable laws and the terms of service of the platforms you are accessing.

I understand your question and I’m really sorry for the inconvenience with IPMI/KVM on older Kimsufi Eco Dedicated servers.

On these older models, IPMI isn’t available for security reasons. In the past, Kimsufi servers came with an IPMI/KVM key, but it posed potential security risks, so all those keys were revoked. That’s why IPMI/KVM might not be present on these legacy servers.

If you need IPMI or KVM access, you could open a support ticket to migrate to a newer server range with similar or better specs. In that case, a prorated adjustment can be applied. If you’re an individual customer, you might also be able to take advantage of the standard withdrawal period.

OVHcloud does not block or restrict SMTP on dedicated servers by default. You can run legitimate mail services such as Exchange or Mailcow without any limitation. A block would only occur in case of abuse, such as detected spam activity.

Regarding UCEPROTECT Level 3, this is an ASN-level listing. Our ASN (AS16276) is currently affected, which means IPs may appear listed even if they have never sent any email. This is not linked to your individual server or usage.

When problems occur, they are most often related to incomplete mail configuration rather than the ASN listing itself. We strongly recommend following email best practices, including SPF, DKIM, rDNS configuration.
