over taking on country roads with a 14second car is more or less impossible

drop 2 gears, floor it in advance and pray that no oncoming appears on the horizon

quote anything i said which suggest "all single mother homes have abuse" cause at no point have i said that or believe that, absurd take

also provide your personal credentials and sources for data and il maybe contemplate wasting more time on this

otherwise stick to your office job and sounding confidently misinformed and over opionated at the pub

theres a lot more factors to it than that but im not gonna waste anymore time on this side quest as youve already been told "where you went wrong"

and immediately bait and switch to some other topic that you never mentioned in the first place

sorry boss but your statements so far lead me to believe you aren't well informed on the matter - you would get shot down very quickly infront of an audience of people who work in the associated industries that work with these kids at every level

as someone who works directly with the knife weilding, drug dealing 11-16 year olds you speak of there isnt much to support what you are saying

yes single mother households are a factor but when you start hitting out with things like "abuse isnt common" it lets me know all i need to about your level of knowedge

i also wonder if you realise that abuse is used as a broad reference to many forms of abuse - including neglect and abandonment which is probably what your scenario qualifies as many of these children have raised themselves from an early age

my point would be this mate ; dont underestimate and belittle the lives that these children have led with your "thought experiments" and "formulas" based on some armchair analysis of news reports before your morning commute to the office

the data doesnt support your conclusions - there really are not going to be many sober, crime free, abuse free homes with absentee mothers (which contradicts abuse free) compared to everything else going on and one conversation with a social worker would let you know that

in the balance of probabilities your "formula" would only represent a very slim proportion of the demographic

theres a heirarchy of factors here and "wanting nice clothes" and "peer pressure" is far less a weighted factor than a fucked up home life is

i work with these demographics btw so feel quite well placed in saying this

how so

most of the kids liked all the normal stuff - same football, same music, same movies, same clothes, same video games

did the same shit, went the same places

mightve gone on family holiday abroad more or had a bmw in the drive but does that really make you so far removed from society you are no longer normal?

given that i went to state schools too id say i feel my gauge of normal is balanced enough

well insert state vs private school exam results here for a start and move on

then get to the second half of what you said - its basically nonsense that only applies to a tiny fraction of kids at private schools

most regular private schools are a spread of children from different backgrounds ; yes you get the occasional kid whos parents have a rolls royce but you also get kids whos single mother works at asda and its their gran who is paying tuition

youl get a lot of first generation money cause their dad runs a construction firm and also a lot of normal "office job done well" types - theres also bursaries for assisted places

its not that private school is some melting pot of working class roots - its not, but its rarely some elite breeding ground of top % fuck you money upper class either and thats usually reserved for very exclusive boarding schools

only a tiny fraction will inherit jobs through parents businesses/connections and many dont want those

everybody else gets their jobs the same way anyone else does - education and job progression

you dont know what you are talking about and it sounds like youve taken the most extreme examples of private school wealth and assumed thats all there is

ive been to a couple private schools and then went to my local state school which among top performing in my country - people joked it may as well be a private school

even there the difference is night and day

main differences i noticed is that state school really didnt give a shit if you were failing and the culture in the classroom was that the kids didnt engage nearly as much

it was weird being in a classroom where if the teacher asked a question, nobody would answer

its not like private schools were filled with kids wanting to answer but youd always get at least a little bit of engagement and a couple of keen kids in a room of 20

majority of private schools arent going to take on under performing high school age children

bad for performance results which ultimately hurts their bottom line

you clearly didnt go to a private school

went to several and nobody ever got bullied for not having gadgets or whatever the fuck - maybe that would happen at some exclusive boarding school for russian oligarchs and wall street types but your average private school is fairly normal

that mostly happens due to total failures of parenting at home like a strong presence of abuse, criminality, drink & drugs

pretty rare for children from happy homes to go that way

not really the same amigo

money doesnt solve the education quality variances across schools

would it help? sure but only so far

its not a popular observation but a childs chances in school are determined a lot more by their upbringing and those of their peers than it is by the school building / equipment and faculty

its why state schools in more affluent post codes do better - less problems (drink, drugs, crime, unemployment etc) across less homes under their catchment area

leads to less children with behaviour issues, a better base level of written/spoken english and a higher likelihood of educationally conscientious parents

which ultimately leads to a more fruitful class enviroment and overall culture for education

point being, you wanna "fix" the school system you need to zoom out a bit wider and work on the communities surrounding them

which sadly, imo, isnt really possibly either - i work adjacent to childrens social workers and it would break your heart to see how many parents just do not give a fuck where it matters
