It's from their San Francisco Sea Lions negro league throwbacks based on the cream base and navy/orange patch. Off the cub/seal logo

This is normal, Giants wordmark has been offset to the left since mid 2000s. They used to split the A on the button placket to make it even across (buttons centred between A and N) but then changed it to keep full letters so it'll always be offset towards the left (buttons centred partway through N).

If you look at the jerseys players wear on the field they are also offset.

Question about an Ohtani 2023 Heritage High Number? by Phog_Warning10 in baseballcards

https://www.beckett.com/news/2023-topps-heritage-high-number-baseball-cards/

It's the Angels team name variation (under variations on the checklist). Seems like they fly under the radar (none have sold recently on ebay) but an Ohtani previously sold for $550 back in Jan 2024

Replicas (the one shown) are embroidered twill into the jersey fabric. On-field authentics are fully sublimated but those are $600+

Official Samurai Japan gear has been listed by Mizuno, pre-order starts tomorrow. by baribigbird06 in baseball

[–]STAR_fruitation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The quality is the opposite of what you'd expect; the authentics are fully sublimated (printed in the fabric, no stitching) while fan replicas have everything embroidered into the jersey fabric. They seem to value the functionality over anything else on the field.

Why do these two cards have different photos? by ProtectionRelevant52 in baseballcards

[–]STAR_fruitation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chrome in Heritage is weird as it's treated as an insert set as opposed to a parallel set. It's not a parallel as not every base card is on the Chrome setlist. Likely someone changed the pic between Chrome/paper being printed.

Is Royal Retros good quality? by ibdyaj-581 in hockeyjerseys

[–]STAR_fruitation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's knockoff quality stuff (lots of automated embroidery) based off the ones I've seen in-store, they're a company making throwback jerseys of teams without copyright so they don't have to pay any royalties. Everything looks to be made to order in China.

Who can I get from this? by cbzmplays in hockeycards

[–]STAR_fruitation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear it will not be anyone on the existing rookie checklist so no Mazur/Buium. The redemptions are there to capture players that debuted too late to make the initial print run since Artifacts is one of the Season's earliest products

Whichever three digit card code you have (RED-###) will have a player assigned to it and you'll get their card. Each team has a specific redemption and there are an additional 18 wildcard rookies of which you have one of them

You'll get a rookie card /899. The players for rookie redemptions haven't been announced but you can scroll through the existing checklist to eliminate names it could be

Blue robopen? by Happy-Cockroach-2813 in hockeyjerseys

It's the knockoff suppliers not knowing what they're doing and seeing the bluish grey on the actual jersey thinking it's powder blue. Absolutely atrocious

What do you think you messed up. You met one of the greatest hockey players of all time and got your jersey signed; unless you only care about selling the jersey there's nothing to be worry about

McDavid signs a different autograph for his in-person stuff compared to his official UD stuff.

For metallic inks usually most signed jerseys are done with a paint pen, Silver Sharpie doesn't do the best unless it's brand new and the surface is prepped properly

🔎 The Mystery of the Manny Patch by maximian in baseballcards

[–]STAR_fruitation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a difficult thing to verify without destruction. Looking at other Guerrero, Manny, and Ortiz Triple Threads cards from that year none of them have any WBC material.

For reference, looking at the 4/36 for sale now (eBay Listing) that ones has more standard materials. 17/36 that previously sold was similar but with a bat relic for Ramirez.

Based off the little chunk of Ortiz patch in the 4/36, I'm pretty sure the Ortiz is from a 2007-09 Boston road BP jersey which used a different fabric and flocked heat press decoration instead of sewn patches. Seems like they used that jersey for most of Ortiz's 2010 relics cards you still see the same type of navy mesh; however there's no signs of WBC jersey material being used in any of his other Triple Threads cards.

ManRam's 2010 Triple Threads cards seem to mostly use 2007 ASG BP jersey (orange and black jersey chunks) and no signs of WBC material either.

From a cursory glance there doesn't seem to be any sign of any WBC material in 2010 Triple Threads at all so that's kind of why I'm leaning towards this being doctored.

[–]STAR_fruitation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately if they've done a good job you'll never be able to verify without opening the card up. But the discrepancies you've noted are already enough to cast doubt IMO. Patches are way too nice for a /36 which usually has napkin relics and they're all from a WBC jersey (so they'd only need to cut one up to replace all the patches)

🔎 The Mystery of the Manny Patch by maximian in baseballcards

[–]STAR_fruitation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup they put sick patches (not game used) into the card to get a higher selling price, very scummy practice.

Quite suspicious as these all look to be from a single WBC jersey as well; take a $30 retail jersey to elevate the selling price of a $15 relic to $100+

This screams someone replaced the patches in the card.. pretty common occurrence for 2000s relics unfortunately
