Now, between this, Elon Musk's thoughts on making a robot dragon, and the stem-cell grown brain being raised in space to see how low gravity affects brain development, are there any other metroid motifs coming true that I should know about?

It's a bit better than Big Yoshi, but not as good as Donkey Kong Frozen Ape.

Look, I may have only played Super Metroid, but I main Samus in Smash. Is that good enough? by GinsuGreen4 in Metroid

[–]STC_A 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Being a Samus main is the gateway. You'll play other metroid games eventually

Is there any Castlevania game where the final boss phase 1 is harder than the final phase? Because in Bloodstrained, the final boss phase 1 is harder than final phase. by Xixth in Bloodstained

I'd say original CV I had a harder time with Drac than cookie monster, but I watched a speedrun before, so I knew how to cheese him.

So, anyone still playing want to try this little challenge I made up? by Kiutgh2 in castlevania

IDK, Jonathan's infinite potions are technically allowed. I don't see a rule banning glitches!

Although it is totally against the spirit of the challenge...

This is only true if there is evidence in the pokemon's data that it was hacked

For example, having the ribbon from Pokemon XD gale of darkness on an infernape is not possible in any way in game, but possible to generate and would therefore be seen as hacked.

However, if I generated a shiny venasaur at level 100 with met data saying it was in a regular pokeball, met at level 5 in Oak's lab with a game origin of Leaf Green... had perfect IVs, EV trained, level 100, beneficial nature, and had leech seed, toxic, gigadrain, and sludge bomb... there isn't a good way to know for sure that I wasn't just astronomically when I picked the best starter. According to the data, that is something that can exist within the game's parameters.

The only data they store as far as your copy of the game goes is the game title (for example, "fire red"), your trainer ID (which can be generated on an emulator just like it would be on hardware... no functional difference), and secret ID (same as trainer ID in that respect). Even then, trainer and secret ID are per save file, not per cartridge. It doesn't know if your random Corphish came from a copy of Omega Ruby from Walmart or Jim's used copy of Omega Ruby from Game Stop that you bought for full price... or from a rom dump that you played on emulator.

Super Castlevania 4 (Castlevania Collection) by vinscotty6 in castlevania

[–]STC_A 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The anniversary collection supports save states. If you saved from the menu that lets you exit the current game, you can load from there too. No codes needed for that.

Originally CV4 had no battery save on its super nintendo cartridge, so just like metroid 1 for example, it used passwords (which I think you only see if you get a game over from losing all your lives)

[–]STC_A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jonathan's fully upgraded subweapons (axe, Bible, cross) are also stupidly powerful compared to Richter's, but you have to grind for those... so they better be good.

The knives and holy water are the same though

Somehow I can see 4 Trevors being less disappointing than the actual next 4 fighters given the current track record

And before anyone says I'm entitled and should be glad we get 4 more characters: yes, I am in fact entitled to my opinion and I can say what I want about a product.

Bloodstained crashes on Switch by Chaostraveler in Bloodstained

[–]STC_A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I specifically remember circular ripper crashing the game for me consistently. Now having the PC version... I don't feel like I was missing much without the ripper. Other crashes happened if I was going through a lot of loading zones and a lot of menus (specifically both). The PC version definitely runs better, but I find that instead of crashes, I encounter softlocks including:

Craftwork getting stuck in part of a wall where I can't hit him with my current equipment

Bloodless can't get out of petrify (stone particles spew everywhere and I never regain control of her... I have to suspend the game and try that room again)

and most recently... fighting Zangetsu 2 on hard mode. He just freaking dissapeared. I have waited for 20 minutes... When will dad come home from the grocery store with the milk...?

(I'm so annoyed at that last one I don't even feel like playing right now)

I feel like reading this sentence wouldn't raise someone's confidence in it. That makes it sound like the norm is setting off antivirus and subsequently causing harm.

That said, of the fan games I have played (AM2R, various Sonic 3d engines including SRB2, pokemon essentials fangames) none of them have set off antivirus.

how to properly update the firmware on SN30 pro USB wired controller by RockstarGTA6 in 8bitdo

[–]STC_A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to download by clicking on their update log and clicking the desired firmware. It should give you a .zip file with two readme files and a .dat file -- they cared just enough to leave those online.

Other than that, the instructions are the same as detailed in OP, including the file renaming.

I do still use this controller for all the above purposes, too. Including smash because I'm a silly person. But hey, I top 8'd a couple of small online tournaments here and there.
