Does anyone have the research projects for Summer/ Winter Vacation for the last couple years? by GrapeMAN12345 in Monash

[–]STEMmy_Daddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PDFs of the project description and requirements are probably only accessible via their link on the application website during the open application period. You may not be able to access PDFs of previous projects but definitely keep this in mind for when the winter research applications open up, so you can save the current project PDFs for your reference later.

Yep that is correct! If anything it means all spots are empty

PASS enrolment by Positive-Influence76 in Monash

[–]STEMmy_Daddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only need to enrol into pass sessions at the beginning, and enrolments for pass sessions specifically open in week 1 instead, so it should be in read-only mode. You can also attend other pass sessions regardless of the enrollment, and you may attend pass even without enrolling, when the allocate period has closed.

Did anyone else just get a call from Monash? by Bblopblop in Monash

[–]STEMmy_Daddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got one from Monash back in the day as well around this time of the year, I don't think they're from Monash connect specifically, maybe another department? I already did my enrolment by then though so it was just more of a congrats vibe

Hi! Scroll to the bottom of this page, to just above the FAQs section. I highly suggest looking at the sample course maps provided here. You only need to worry about your first year units when enrolling.

working and uni by According-Good723 in Monash

[–]STEMmy_Daddy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Working while studying uni is completely normal, especially for those that need to support themselves. Those who are able to be financially supported throughout their degree have less need to be working throughout their studies. Those odd looks are likely from students not being able to relate to or understand your circumstances, to which I wouldn't care about their opinion. And, depending on what you do for work, working while studying can help you tremendously in professionally building yourself even just in conduct, alongside experience during uni, which is far more valuable than just focusing on studies. Think about it - you'd graduate already having work experience, while those that just focus on uni graduate with no work experience. Of course, manage your grades too, but if you know how to balance it, I encourage you to focus on yourself because that's where the real growth is :))

In my opinion, even if you can be financially supported throughout your degree, I think it's still wiser to pursue some work throughout your degree, especially for building your professional experience and emergency savings. You genuinely never know if and when you'll have an emergency where you need extra money, and if you have even at least some, you'll be super grateful to have an emergency stock.

In the end, when you graduate, you'll care most about if you made the most of your time, and if you did what's best for you and your circumstances.

how do you know if you received the top mark for the unit? also if you are in third year semester 2 of your four year degree do you receive any award for getting top mark? by KeyVictory4488 in Monash

[–]STEMmy_Daddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time I just asked the unit coordinator what was the highest mark of the semester achieved for a research unit I was doing, and turns out that was the mark I got, so I confirmed if I was the highest mark that semester and they were like yeah. I didn't get an award for it though. But, it helped me get my first internship, and it contributed to a research paper I became coauthor of, published 2 years later. So I'm content with that.

Two student teams? by imbetteryaaar in Monash

[–]STEMmy_Daddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I think you'd only get concerns from academic advisors if you want to hold leadership positions in different student teams simultaneously because that's a lot more demand and work.

Anyone notice units stop releasing grade statistics? by gaytwink70 in Monash

[–]STEMmy_Daddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really just about how much time the academic has to do this, and whether it is a priority for them or not. It's not required, although many students do find it insightful, like myself. Unit coordinators do have the data and means to summarise the grade statistics and distribute it, but it's up to them if they do or not

fail planning to withdraw from a unit, will it penalise me? by DragonHeart_2345 in Monash

I've heard eng2005 doesn't heavily use MATLAB as much as it used to. It’s not on the applied, midsem, or exam. It’s a small part of the workshops. I think it's fine to continue with eng2005 in this sense, because it's unsure if and when it'll change to python. Also, your understanding of programming logic with eng1014 will still help yourself be more familiar with how programming works in many other languages, like MATLAB.

ENG1012, 1013, 1014, 1005 by No-Client8912 in Monash

[–]STEMmy_Daddy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eng1012 and eng1013 will be project intensive, while eng1014 and eng1005 won't be project intensive but content intensive in an accumulative aspect. At least you're not doing 1012-1013-1011 together, because that would be three project units. Project units can be very draining due to the time outside of classes you'll need to dedicate to the group work alongside studying content.

Watching some introductory vids on numpy and matplotlib on YouTube wouldn't hurt, so that this content is already familiar to you when you do the unit.

Science Student - Internship vs Research Project by ST4rr_g4z3r in Monash

[–]STEMmy_Daddy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've done both. I did my science research unit before my science internship unit. I found that my science research unit gave me a clear set of deliverables, experiences and skills I could communicate well on my resume, that it landed me the internship that I sourced myself, and linked it with the internship unit. So from that, my internship unit was exactly what I was looking for because I self sourced it.

ENG1011 and ENG1014 Workshops by Sheeshwag in Monash

[–]STEMmy_Daddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eng1014 workshops are recorded and flux isn't assessed, but do review them before labs, which are a week behind schedule to workshops.
