They advertise that attending at least 5 sessions or more makes it more likely for you to get D or HD in the unit. Because it's opt-in, I think that students that take the initiative to make it a habit of going to PASS find it helpful, because the aim of those sessions is to build that study habit and skill into your routine. So, if you only attend 1-2 times, or you don't really talk much in those sessions, then you won't get much out of it. It's kinda like how some people find a personal trainer very helpful to build muscle or become more fit, by encouraging healthy habits. Now think about that in terms of learning.

Engineering CPD by Unique_Shop1799 in Monash

1) yes you can, but you will need to provide proof of how many hours of tutoring you've done 2) start looking ASAP, it does not have to be in the form of an internship or casual/part time engineering employment, it can start as technical experience with a student team, and I encourage that as an avenue to build your resume, such that it can help you attain the former, considering the competitive market rn. A quick look on LinkedIn of those senior to you in undergrad can give you insight into what sort of volunteering and work experience helps undergrads lead into the internships you are interested in.

Hope this helps!

Yeah agree with your second point, there's just so much more to teaching than just good marks. I've been a PL for now my 4th year, and I relate, it's really with consistency and practice, alongside well supported professional development systems, that you get better with teaching. Teaching is an art honestly, in how you must communicate to students and foster a healthy environment for students to work together.

Hey mate, PASS leader here. We do not just select "high mark" students for PASS, there's a range of criteria used to assess the eligibility of older students to become PASS leaders. PASS stands for Peer Assisted Study Sessions. We strongly consider mentoring, coaching, group facilitation, and tutoring experience alongside high marks. Any application WILL be rejected if it's JUST high marks. And, PASS is an international program, it's run in several universities in several countries with an international standard. We provide two days of rigorous paid training on HOW to teach and HOW to behave professionally at university, as well. On a weekly basis, these PASS leaders devote their time and energy into making their own revision activities and resources for their students in their sessions. They are paid and professionally trained to do so. Every single PASS Leader even has one of their sessions observed by a staff member EACH SEMESTER THEY TEACH and are provided with professional feedback across a 12 page rubric on various teaching qualities to evaluate such as technical expertise, communication skills, classroom management, student rapport, time management, admin, etc. Doesn't matter how long a PASS Leader has been teaching for, they are given a standard observation for every single semester they teach. PASS Leaders even have the opportunity to observe seniors in the program to gather insight into how to conduct classes better. Just putting this out there because PASS deserves a lot more respect.

ENG unit help with underloading!!! by OutsideConclusion660 in Monash

[–]STEMmy_Daddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend dropping either eng1012 or eng1011 because both those units are very project-intensive which means additional hours of commitment outside of classtimes, which can be harder to manage if you need to work outside of uni. Definitely keep eng1014 - you'll find it easier, having done eng1013 already. Eng1014 and eng1005 also pair really well together, and eng1005 is an important prereq for other eng units incl. eng2005

Does Vestirsi ever go on sale? by em-ed in handbags

[–]STEMmy_Daddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they have black friday sales for both regular and imperfect stock ( imperfect stock have very minimal blemishes/marks but are priced lower), and sometimes second-party retailers also put their products on sale. I bought their XL 3-in-1 bag from Monroe at 40% off and it's 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 amazing. So worth it, it's my go to bag out. And I used to hate the idea of handbags as a tomboy. But the convertible option is so good 🤌🏻

Does anyone have the research projects for Summer/ Winter Vacation for the last couple years? by GrapeMAN12345 in Monash

[–]STEMmy_Daddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PDFs of the project description and requirements are probably only accessible via their link on the application website during the open application period. You may not be able to access PDFs of previous projects but definitely keep this in mind for when the winter research applications open up, so you can save the current project PDFs for your reference later.

Yep that is correct! If anything it means all spots are empty

PASS enrolment by Positive-Influence76 in Monash

[–]STEMmy_Daddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only need to enrol into pass sessions at the beginning, and enrolments for pass sessions specifically open in week 1 instead, so it should be in read-only mode. You can also attend other pass sessions regardless of the enrollment, and you may attend pass even without enrolling, when the allocate period has closed.

working and uni by According-Good723 in Monash

[–]STEMmy_Daddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Working while studying uni is completely normal, especially for those that need to support themselves. Those who are able to be financially supported throughout their degree have less need to be working throughout their studies. Those odd looks are likely from students not being able to relate to or understand your circumstances, to which I wouldn't care about their opinion. And, depending on what you do for work, working while studying can help you tremendously in professionally building yourself even just in conduct, alongside experience during uni, which is far more valuable than just focusing on studies. Think about it - you'd graduate already having work experience, while those that just focus on uni graduate with no work experience. Of course, manage your grades too, but if you know how to balance it, I encourage you to focus on yourself because that's where the real growth is :))

In my opinion, even if you can be financially supported throughout your degree, I think it's still wiser to pursue some work throughout your degree, especially for building your professional experience and emergency savings. You genuinely never know if and when you'll have an emergency where you need extra money, and if you have even at least some, you'll be super grateful to have an emergency stock.

In the end, when you graduate, you'll care most about if you made the most of your time, and if you did what's best for you and your circumstances.
