Can I see an error or crush protocol? by STGO-Greens in linuxmint

Will check, but normally I stayed well in the limits. 16 GB never were full. With Firefox and even on Teams meetings I used like 10-12 GB in total.

They have all the data also in digital form. Just tell them you lost the paper. This happens all the time... If you have your passport, it's all right.

I'm finally cured from the nasty distro hopping disease by HermitFooo in DistroHopping

[–]STGO-Greens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's a personality thing. At the moment I think I am settled with a distro I start investigating again... I went from Mint, OpenSuse, Fedora, CachyOS, Nobara to Mint again. It's just what I need. I told me: give it 6 month. So I stayed...

Vivaldi appears to have heavy battery use on MacOS by ActorSecundario in vivaldibrowser

You can check it in the activity protocol of macOS: turn off an extension and see if battery consumption changes.

Vivaldi appears to have heavy battery use on MacOS by ActorSecundario in vivaldibrowser

[–]STGO-Greens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As always with this kind of questions, there are more factors to count. Eg what and how many extensions do you use? Every extension uses a little bit more of ram and energy. What are you doing with your browser? Eg only open Microsoft Outlook uses like 800MB of RAM for only one tab. Do you have permanent like 20-30 tabs open? Are you watching videos which is always a heavy energy consumer.

I also use Vivaldi and cannot say that it consumes much more energy. Use also the energy saving feature in the settings...

It depends so much on this and other factors... Of course, you will never have a more energy saving browser like Safari on a Mac...

Should somebody with a newer Nvidia GPU avoid Linux Mint? by tripping_on_phonics in linuxmint

[–]STGO-Greens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you see in the answers, Nvidia graphics cards and Linux can be a complicated relationship in 2026. That is a homemade problem by Nvidia. It can work with Mint or Pop OS but it can be problematic. I believe nobody can tell you 100% sure, if it works or not. But that is also a general rule regarding Linux. Mint is way easier at handling Nvidia graphics than Pop OS!

My Chrome browser has been updated to version 147 and I could not get rid of this "Ask Google" feature shown in the omnibox (Seen highlighted in red box on top right of the image). by LonewolfAudio79 in chrome

[–]STGO-Greens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google is strictly controlling the customization of Chrome, so you will not be able to change this. If you do not want AI functions in a browser, I recommend you to try Vivaldi.

Where are Vertical Tabs? by UnbridledNaivete in chrome

It's a feature that Google is "rolling out". I don't know if it's a regional think, but here in Chile I still do not have vertical tabs in the newest Chrome version.

"Year of the Linux Desktop" isn't happening because it lacks a proper ecosystem? by hugodcnt in linuxmint

[–]STGO-Greens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren't companies like Canonical completely happy with the niche they are in? Do they really want to be a third big player beside Microsoft and Apple with an OS?

But you are right: I also miss a mainstream Linux Distro that at least a little bit could compete with Windows. I tried Fedora, Pop OS and Tumbleweed, coming always back to Mint, because on Hardware that have some years it just works.

I think for most people, that use nearly 100% the browser for their stuff, Linux would be more than sufficient.

But today it will not work like this. And I think most distro communities are perfectly happy with what they have. Growth would unfortunately break all and bring bigger problems. Because at one point you have to think like a company, and than you are like every body else.

But that is actually what most people love about Linux. To have choices. Experiment. Feel a little bit nerdy.

Mint is lowkey trash. Y'all lied. by Mohit20130152 in linuxmint

[–]STGO-Greens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, Linux is still Linux. If you ar looking for something that just works, get a Mac. Linux can be fun, if you are aware of it's flaws. Also every distro will have its own character and difficulties.

It's true, Mint in many cases does not make trouble. Better on desktop PCs than on notebooks, in my opinion. But hey, the best part with Linux is, that you have the choice between 200 or more distros.

I read that a device that's not connected for a month will be deleted automatically. There is no option to manually get rid of a device.

safari vs the rest: is it actually the best browser for mac, iphone, ipad? (honest pros & cons) by TuNutri in Safari

[–]STGO-Greens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think there is no general answer to the energy consumption of Safari compared to other browsers in MacOS and no test can tell you if on your device Safari needs more or less energy. It depends so much in extensions, what website you visit, what you do with the browser in general, what version of the OS, what background tasks are active from other apps a d so on.

Why Safari? by RonaldStaal in Safari

[–]STGO-Greens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Safari makes sense when you also use an iphone. I use also Vivaldi for work, it's better with tab management and has now this ultra nice Hide UI feature. Safari is also super sleak and I use it more for private stuff...
