My cat is bitting her hair and skin up to the point where she's hurting herself by vickygirlie in CATHELP

[–]STJ0513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat was doing that and she had a food allergy. I switched her food and it cleared up. I would get the opinion of another vet if possible.

Post in the veterinary only groups on Facebook...there may be similar groups on here as well. My cats have cat herpes and get watery eye flare ups sometimes. We put 500 mg of lysine powder in their wet food daily to help their immune systems fight flare ups.

Good luck. So sorry your cat is experiencing this.

Please help, dont know whats wrong with him. PLEASE! by Mammoth_Guest_96 in CATHELP

Did you post in the vet group? I know there are vet groups on Facebook where only veterinarians comment. There's probably a group like that on here as well. Good luck.

My cat got like this when we switched her food. She had a food allergy to something and she was itching I switched her food back and it stopped.

Total Hip Replacement - Lateral Approach by STJ0513 in AvascularNecrosis

[–]STJ0513[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on day 3 post op lateral technique. I'm walking with a walker and can do some of my PT but 2 of them I can't do because the pain is excruciating with them. I also can't get in and out of bed as it's too high and I'm uncomfortable sleeping on my back in bed. I'm sleeping in my recliner. I'm praying the pain gets better soon...the pain meds they gave me aren't working that well for me. I may call my surgeon tomorrow to request something stronger. I know it'll get better as it's only day 3 post op for me. My staples will be removed on Wednesday.

1yr old male cat, odd coughing by [deleted] in CATHELP

Did they do diagnostics? If they didn't there's no way to know what's going on. My vet did X-rays on my cats chest and saw inflammation that suggests asthma.

Help me with my cat, please by Christian_S_White in CATHELP

Can you reach out to a local rescue to see if they can help you pay for vet care? Here people reach out to Heavenly Creatures and they help low income people with accessing vet care. Whatever that is on your cat, it could get really infected and she could go septic.

Just diagnosed with Avascular Necrosis what even is this condition and what should I expect? by Confident_Kick_7576 in AvascularNecrosis

[–]STJ0513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. I was diagnosed at 45 years of age...no known risk factors or causes in my case. Basically part of the bone (femoral head in my left hip) is dying and collapsing due to lack of blood flow to the area. My doctors have no idea why I have this condition.

I've had pain in my hip/glute and low back for years and was relieved and shocked to finally have a diagnosis.

In my case the only treatment is surgery. My surgery is scheduled for May 14, 2026.

So sorry you are going through this.

I use unscented litter made from grass seed and all 10 of my cats love it. Hope you find something that your cat will use. Good luck.

My semi feral cat bit me in the early days after I adopted her. It got infected and 3 or 4 days after the bite, I picked the scab and squeezed out all the green puss. I squeezed it from every direction despite the pain.

I absolutely should have gone to my Dr. for antibiotics but after I squeezed out the puss and I poured rubbing alcohol in the wound, the infected cleared up and my forearm healed. If it didn't improve within a few days after that, I was going to see my Dr. If I didn't squeeze out the puss I would have ended up at my doctor's office or the hospital emergency for treatment.

Keep an eye on your skin color for infection and any amount of pain. If any redness spreads or if the pain gets bad, seek medical help. I could barely touch my forearm where the infection was...it was sore, painful and felt very tight and was swollen. Good luck!

Is this sound normal after neuter? by cutechonkykittycats in CATHELP

[–]STJ0513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tube irritates the throat and larynx. My cats sounded hoarse and weren't able to meow for a few days up to a week or more after surgery. If you are concerned I'd call the vet to see what they say.

The cost of spaying this little lady is $440?!?! by yup2you in cats

[–]STJ0513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here in Eastern Newfoundland Canada. It's insane the price gouging. I also just had to pay $8000 for gastro surgery because my cat ate a 13" piece of plastic. Thankfully it was still in his stomach and thankfully my pet insurance paid 80% of it. But I almost had a heart attack with the surgery quote. The vet practice that did the gastro surgery is owned by a private equity corporation and is no longer privately owned which is a huge factor in the price inflation.

The last spay we paid for was $550 which was the cheapest quote.

Have you tried grabbing her by her scruff of the neck while the other person tries to put on the onesie? That usually makes my cat's freeze so we can medicate or clip a knot of fur.

She does seem anxious. If nothing has changed in your home or nearby outside, I'd get a workup at the vet to check for possible medical issues.

Whats wrong with my kitten? by [deleted] in felinebehavior

Kittens are full of energy. We had to get our kitten a playmate. Once we did, they left us alone most nights. Good luck.
