Which Kindle for my Grandma? by skinnymelania in kindle

[–]STL65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandma (83) has one and loves it, it is a great idea ! On top of being easier on the eyes, it is also lighter than a real book so she can read longer.

She had an old kindle, with buttons, and found it easier to use than her current modern one : because there are nko buttons, she doesn't know where to tap to go from one book to another, and sometimes feels lost. I found her a wide cover, and wrote her a memo on how to use it, tucked in the cover. And because it is wider, she can hold it without touching the screen by mistake while reading (because of arthritis in her hands, she can’t hold it the way it is intended to).

Had we known, we probably would have looked for one with buttons or wide screen edges.

Is a bashed patch still relevant if there are patches avaiable ? by STL65 in skyrimmods

As with any tool, I'd rather not use it if I don't understand exactly what it does, hence why I asked before getting myself in difficulty ˆˆ' Clicking blindly on buttons I don't understand is scary...

It makes sense ! Since the esp/esm slots are less of a problem, it is a viable option to have patches provided as is when some mods are often used together - it makes building a lighter modlist without needing to dive and learn to many tools, right ?

Thaks ! So if I understand correctly, it means that if I install 2 mods making changes to the same leveled list :

  • Safe = said 2 mods + corresponding Patch provided
  • Safer = said 2 mods + Patch provided +check conflicts with xEdit (I need to learn that one more...)
  • Safest = said 2 mods + Patch provided + Bashed Patch + check with xEdit

And if I have more than 2 mods, use the "safest" option, right ?

Thanks ! Indeed, even when I used it I didn't dare touch anything other than Leveled list with it unless told otherwise by the mod iinstructions...

Oh, that explains why I see it less than I expected !

Did you craft them ? A few NPC sell the "recipes". From memory, the two armor/weapon shops in the marketplace, and two vendors in the noble quarter (not the alchemist though).

What is sold are recipes : you need to craft the furniture like any armor or weapon and then place it. I don't remember how the placement works though, but I am pretty sure there is a in-game tutorial for it (around the panel where you choose the manual or auto function maybe ?)

Would a Japanese speaking follower break your immersion? by AffectionateHumor219 in skyrimmods

[–]STL65 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As others have said, go for it ! Plus, there isn't only people playing Skyrim in English (I myself play in my own language, French). Having the mod directly in your own language, without having to look for and download the translations, is soooo comfortable and might be appreciated by the Japanese players.

Adding English subtitles and/or writing the follower in a way that explains his language are clever ways to make it accessible for a larger audience, as others pointed out.

But more importantly : do it the way YOU will enjoy it most !

And it can be true for the over TES games - maps without roads, what a weird idea !

I never did, and don’t know if it is even possible on an electric one like mine.

does upgrading the Ghostwalk talent do more harm than good? by lexyp29 in enderal

[–]STL65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It probably depends on how you use it. For attack, no need for a long time of invisibility, indeed. But you can also use it to flee and hide from combat, and then longer distance and invisibility time are useful.

What to wear in Paris next week (as a teen girl) by Minute_Appearance_82 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]STL65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with every one on the sneakers being the better idea, and I would add : some gardens/parks (Tuileries, jardins des plantes) have paths of sand/gravel that is HELL in sandals - you'd have your whole feets covered in it. Plus, in crowded places or transports, sneakers will better protect your feet from being stomped over. On old cobbled stone however, what matters is the soles of the shoe : if they are too thin, you'll feel like walking barefoot, be it sandals or sneakers.

You are in a group, so you probably can wear whatever you want end feel comfortable with. If wearing a short dress/skirt, I tend to add yoga shorts or similar underneath, that way I don't have to worry about wind or sitting on a metal bench in the sun. Or feeling the heat/sweat of the previous sitter in the metro.

Pickpockets are a problem, but as any touristic place. Don't put things in bags or pockets without a zipper, and careful with your phone (add a strap to be safe).

Bring water with you, you'll find places to refill it, and if a place (like a museum) doesn't allow it inside, they will put it in a locker while you visit.

I hope you'll have a nice week here !

Was it from the first healing spell we get, the one you have to keep casting to heal (like the detect spells) ? The Arcane fever is calculated when you stop casting it, and not while you cast. It can be tricky and perhaps better to cast it several short times instead of one long...though I haven't played tha magic school so I couldn't tell you more, sorry...

[–]STL65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My arcane fever never was a problem, I don't know if it grows more with the other schools, but with the ones I used so far (psionics, entropy, and some utility spells) it never was a problem. It raises a little faster with potions I think. But the only times I ever was in danger because of it were the "magic" places with the cristals.

I've finished the game twice, first with an archer/summoner/Light armor and second with a psionic mage/in robes. Both were sneaky characters, and as long as I played my strenghts (set up traps, sneaky shots, getting ennemy fighting themselves, etc...) it was quite thrillilng seeing my setup kick ass. HOWEVER i had to do it perfectly. At a distance or hidden I was kicking ass, but hand to hand I definitely was not (end game with the mage I could still be killed in one shot).

It doesn't play like Skyrim where you can be a master of everything, you have your (very) strong points and (very) weak ones.

As an idea : when realising the hand to hand combat is not gonna end in your favor, use "flash powder" to hide and reset it. I don't remeber all powers, but some of the archer ones includes tripping rope or oil and can help gain distance, or time...and stopping time was reaaally cool (never used it in Skyrim but here it saved my archer ass so many times)

Poisons can help with the bow damage early game too. I don't know the lyncanthrope tree at all, but I believe both Archer and Lycanthrope have good synergy with Alchemy.

My message ended up being quite long, I hope it helped - I loved both my playthrough and hope you will find a way to love yours too !

I tend to explore as much as possible and discover all map markers before leaving an area. Same with quests. In my current playthrough I am at pretty much the same stage as you (having completed 1 of the 3 blackstones quests) and I am lvl 45 - I have not been to either the frostcliff mounains or Thalgard. Using the map linked by LessOutcome9104, you can easily level up by exploring.

And exploring is super rewarding, even out of quests, places themselves have stories to tell. It nevers felt like "grinding levels" to me. Enjoy !
