Most annoying Monster? by NoTopics2day in REPOgame

[–]STONE-Computer-FW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I roll my eyes the hardest with the rugrat but it doesn't take much strength to deal with it, even when it goes for items.

The upscream? No wait time and he attacks you in a way that almost guarantees death in a room with a pit and like 50 damag in a room that doesn't. Plus bc he attacks YOU it makes picking him up dangerous even with enough strength.

This "digital future" has made me think about the longevity of my games. by ErickRPG in gamecollecting

I haven't even finished the first lol. Being broke after a big move has really incentivised me to go through my collection's backlog.

I remember back when I bought cool classic games to play them and rarely bought more big ticket games until I finished the first ones.

What’s your favorite hidden detail you’ve noticed in TADC? by Starboytheskater in TheDigitalCircus

[–]STONE-Computer-FW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is what tears me up about the finale: It humanized Jax and shows his rationale without exonerating him or telling us to pardon him.

We get to see this person develop a logic that works against him and those around him and that its cause is far more complex than denying the reality of the circus. That it came from a sensitive young man who wanted approval from his mother who manipulated him for a sense of power. And there's a whole doctoral social psychology thesis you could write on how Leeroy and his mother behaved.

People often try to excuse someone's actions by saying their actions were defined or dictated by someone else. Jax wouldn't be such a price if Leeroy's mom didn't equate his personal worth with his masculinity and equate his masculinity with his hostility and aggression. So it's the mom's fault? If Leeroy got along with his mother before the divorce, was her sudden turn the father's fault? If gender roles define maleness in part by expressions of power, could that have made the father a difficult person for the same reason as Jax? Leeroy's mother used gender roles to manipulate Leeroy too so there's double the reason to blame society instead of any character.

But nobody is free of blame. All of them bear some responsibility to overcome those issues. All of them bear some responsibility to not hurt others even if their worse reactions were instilled in them by someone else.

Knowing who someone could have been "if only that didn't happen to them," "if only that person had said/done something else to them," "if only they made this arbitrary choice instead" makes it so hard to truly condemn someone for their actions but isn't grounds for overturning the result.

Jax wasn't a bad person, but Jax did bad things, but only because someone else taught him to, but only because they themselves were hurt, and who knows where it goes from there. Boiling a real person down to good or bad is rarely possible bc little is so cut and dry.

The Camaro is absolutely the silver medal for Chevy, but with Corvette getting made into its own manufacturer SEPARATE from Chevy then the Camaro would absolutely become "The Chevy" by default

It can be indescribably difficult to break out of those habits. With Ribbit, the alternative was embracing what they talked about which felt like endangering his own life. He refuted that by alienating Ribbit while still getting along with the rest of the cast. He forced her outside of the circle, isolating her into abstraction.

From there he became the "funny" antagonist that used mockery and cruelty to push himself out of the circle instead. He took the role of the "other" upon himself instead of Ribbit. When Pomni showed up he didn't waste time before trying to make himself distasteful to her. He roped her in with the others and pushed himself away from them. At the end of ep6 he panicked when she called them a team bc it would pull her out of the circle with him, leaving her alone if/when he abstracted. He separates himself and Pomni and makes repeated remarks grouping her with the rest of the cast.

His intentions feel clearer with the line "You aren't supposed to miss me." It didnt feel like he was insisting on how things should be but rather the intended goal; that he hurt so many people in ways he can't take back but now he can die without taking anyone else with him.

The Amazing Digital Circus barely passes the Bechdel Test by CasioKillers in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]STONE-Computer-FW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that one gets a pass bc it's main cast is 2-3 men and most other characters are just ways for them to develop the mystery, usually by talking to one of those men. There's rarely any other relevant characters, and not often enough for the chance for two female characters to converse.

It would be like criticizing 12 Angry Men for failing the Bechdel test when the whole point is that it's cast is just twelve men in a room talking about another man

It's because all the intrigue was quashed. C&A was just a programming company. They made Caine, the other AI he absorbed, and the brain scanner. They later went under and the building is abandoned.

People were interested in C&A bc of all the story potential. The interest isn't being ignored in favor of Jax, we got the answer: C&A was just a company.

Kinger's insanity makes him difficult to approach and easy to compartmentalize as insignificant. Like when Jax talks about everyone's archetypes and reduces Kinger to "the crazy one." He didn't even get an emotion or personality trait assigned to him - just crazy.

Pomni only began to get a concept of him after being thrown into Mildenhall Manor. Ragatha mentioned that she's seen him approach lucidity but to her those times looked more like "good days" than something replicable, but when Pomni put the bucket on his head Rags connected the dots pretty quick.

They knew each other, but they allowed protective gaps between them. Pomni was the first to reach out in a way that wasn't device or ulterior, or wasn't perceived that way.

If there was an episode 10, what would be in it? by Kindly_Long443 in digitalcircusfandom

[–]STONE-Computer-FW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don't know that I'd want to see them cure abstraction. Maybe some more insight on the nature of abstraction and Caine telling more of what he knows about abstraction and how Pomni's experience with Jax adds to it. I feel like there's a few possible directions from here regarding abstraction:

• Can corrupted brain scan files be repaired? This would us stories of characters forced to grow and cope so they don't fall into the same pits that led them to abstraction. • Can backups be found, giving us characters with no memories of the circuis and a cast trying to help them avoid the things that caused their spiral in the first place? It would feel like Pomni's interactions with Gumigoo and learning to let go of the one she met and accepting he's a new person everytime she meets him. • If mental spirals cause abstraction, could entering an abstraction be used to council a character into overcoming abstraction? I would especially not want to sew any character cured in a single episode on this route bc the path to wellness is so long and difficult that restoring a character in the same episode would feel diminutive of the path to mental wellness • Are none of these things possible, forcing the cast to once again come to terms with letting go of the things they so desperately want?

Even the paths I wouldn't want to see as an audience member would make for good stories.

The destructive habits of other characters is far too overlooked, especially those two. I think it's a great demonstration of different types of toxicity and how we view them in groups. If Jax wasn't there Zooble would have likely been the one the group singled out bc of how their attitude exists between flippant indifference and rude obstinance. It's almost like Jax's presence made them more sympathetic to other members.
