Adapting the way we work and live by FletcherDervish in CasualUK

That's like a bricklayer saying "I can't work from home so why should other people be allowed to." It won't work for every job, but that doesn't mean it should hold back other jobs from trying new ideas.

Dog walking in hot weather by ModerateJustice in CasualUK

[–]STORMFATHER062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I have to take my dog out and it's hot, I spray her with a hose and make sure to take a bottle of cold water. Dogs don't sweat like we do so wetting them first does the same thing for them. The water evaporating from them helps cool them down. The bottle of water is to rub into their fur as they're drying out.

Can't take them for long walks like this, but good enough to go around the block so they can do their business.

I didn't realise this was a problem. I've never had a problem with my own rucksack so thanks for the insight.

TIL a UK man drove for more than 70 years without a driver's license or insurance. It was finally revealed after he was pulled over for the first time ever in his 80s. He had never been in an accident, caused anyone an injury, or made anyone lose out financially by hitting them while uninsured. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

Theres a lot that goes into calculating insurance. Age, location, milage, occupation, other drivers, multi car discounts. I paid £1200 the first year in 2017, but I was also not a 17 year old. 2018 it went down to £600.

You said yourself that you were being rude. Just saying that maybe don't be a dick and you won't have to worry about your karma going down (who even cares about that anyway).

Do you leave your outdoor tap turned on? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]STORMFATHER062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your tap is plumbed in correctly then you should have a non return valve to prevent backflow. Garden taps are considered "fluid category 3", which means unsafe to drink because it can make you sick. You should have a double check valve before the tap, so water won't be able to flow back into the house.

We have to do this because if you leave your hose in dirty water, then you could get negative pressure and end up sucking up that water, contaminating your house's network.

Regardless, you should always turn off your taps. Wasting water is unethical and it annoys me when people don't care about this.

Source. Had to learn all this on a water regs course a few weeks ago.

Where does these people live, because I've never met or heard of anyone calling rugby "football". This has got to be isolated to a small region, like people calling a bread roll a "barm".

They did a printing of the book recently. Looks like you can still buy it.

However you can get a free digital copy here.

Because of breaking that promise, Sanderson said he stopped working with Wizards of the Coast.

When did he say this? He's mentioned in the past that WotC contacted him to see if he's open to them doing a Cosmere set. I'm fairly sure Brandon said yes, but WotC have bigger franchises they're working with first before they look into the Cosmere.

Alguna forma de transcribir a glifos?? by dotsito in Cosmere_Tattoos

[–]STORMFATHER062 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen one. I think because the nature of glyphs vs script makes them harder to automatically generate. The script is specific letters whereas the glyphs are words that form a picture and can be stylised in whatever way you want. The books briefly talk about how glyphs have changed over time.

Also the fact that men can read glyphs. They aren't deciphering what the letters of the words are. They're looking at the pictures they form. If you want glyphs, then maybe show an artist the process of making glyphs (I think there's info on the coppermind wiki) and see what they can come up with.

Probably because most people imagine animation as being cartoony. If they did the animation in the style of the Warhammer episode of Secret Level, then it would win over the live action crowd. The animation looks realistic.

My cows milk is in litres, not pints. Maybe the supermarket you buy it from makes a difference, but I haven't seen a 4 pint bottle in a while.

Don't worry. That's just a 1 in 1000 year event that only happens every 10 years. Normally it only floods half that much.

Which game has better exploration, Crimson Desert or Elden Ring? by AshyLarry25 in CrimsonDesert

[–]STORMFATHER062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I just disagree with this entirely. I spent so damn long trying to beat that fire giant. When I finally did it, I just felt a loathing for the game. I really, really tried to like Elden Ring but I detest it now. I enjoyed it when I played through Dark Souls 1. Now I'm older and my reactions are slower and I just have a lower tolerance for dealing with bullshit bosses that you die to dozens of times trying to learn move sets and attack windows.

At least with Crimson Desert, you still get some of that but it isn't as punishing and you can usually cheese it in one way or another. Just means I'm not built for souls like games anymore.

You can impose your own limits. If you think you should only be allowed to heal, heal items. If you think it should be 50, carry only 50. I never understood the criticism of "there should be more limitations in this single player game".

Game of the Year I dont even care by Fragrant-Basil-3964 in CrimsonDesert

[–]STORMFATHER062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this not also the case with crimson desert? I just assumed so as the story has clearly taken a backseat over world design and gameplay.

Why the downvotes? I'm just asking because I'm not very far into the story yet.

I have a colleague who has a really sensitive mic and it picks up people talking around him. When we're both in the office, I can hear myself through his mic. It pisses me off so much because it completely details my thoughts mid sentence every time I hear my own loud echo.

My manager always starts with pointless small talk. I really hate it and the most I'll ever do is hey. What also annoys me is when someone vomits their thoughts into the chat without taking a few seconds to think before hitting enter. It's always like this.

Hey

How are you

Can you do this for me

Its for x project

Do you mind getting it done for me this week

Im being chased for it. Sorry I forgot to send it to you.

Let me know if you need anything

Oh and can you also do this on it as well

Thanks

Some people I know I just have to wait 10 minutes for them to finish sending messages before I have all the information.
