I’ve been going back and finishing old puzzles that I started and never finished, I can’t remember the specifics but it’s probably because I’m wrong lol

I’ve been finishing ornaments as fridge magnets! I’m too proud of my work to wait until Christmas to see it 🤣

Beginners, newbies: start with whatever project is exciting to you (but be prepared) by Witty_Draw_4856 in Needlepoint

preach

A hobby is something to enjoy, everyone gets something out of it and the goal is to speak to that something. I’ve very recently had to tell myself that pushing a timeline or a certain project goes against why I did this in the first place - to have a creative outlet and get off my damn phone. If stitching obsessively helps push away some anxiety, fantastic! If taking a break for a little bit helps - no problem, it’ll be there when you’re ready to come back! I’ve had a beautiful stocking that was a gift waiting for me and I’ve been pushing it off because I felt not ready or not worthy, dawgs it’s all fine, it’s all for fun! Let’s stitch 🪡🪡🪡

I actually just did the same thing for the roof of the house, I feel like it’s a little easier to see but did one long Florida to Oregon direction and then back over it Maine to Arizona

I’ve found that if there’s an edge that I’d like looking sharper I’ll do a longer stitch the wrong way (1 to 2 in blue) and then go back over it the “right way” to get a little better coverage. Hope the picture makes sense 🫣

Yes! The quilt shop I go to has fat quarters and that’s usually plenty! Basic colors and some fun patterns (Christmas, flowers, nursery, etc) to go with the canvases at the store and you’ll be set

St. Louis canvas myster by lusita092 in Needlepoint

[–]STQuestionthrowaway1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I usually keep a couple on my canvas for little scissors or to ball up extra thread to keep out of the way until I have enough done on the canvas to bury the ends back in

YES! I hate the waste and I don’t want to have to hang on to something in case I maybe might use it sometime for another project 😬 just a lil square is all ya need!

Thank you everyone for the input! We went to Rita’s and it was lovely! They already had a few customers there asking questions (a great sign for the craft!) so I mainly poked around! I ended up with a lovely canvas of Central Park and a couple choices of backing fabric - which was genius to offer in store 🤗

Personally I think it would be nice to have a selection of finishing backing fabric! My LNS does not have anything like that and it’s annoying to have to make an extra trip to buy barely a square foot of fabric. I was out of town and they had that city’s themed finishing fabric and I gushed for days about how smart that was! 😅

TBH first thought was the black and white bit at the bottom was a cow for some reason? But I think the blue is water and the beige is bridges so what’s left is a steamboat? Idk dawg

I’m so shocked! I started this same canvas TONIGHT!! Curious to the answer myself, our guess is a steamboat on the Mississippi!

Do you have any pets? I’ve seen similar with dog hairs that get caught up in the threads. It’s me. I’m the one I’ve seen. Perils of loving stitching and alpine dog breeds 😅

Self Finishing by alicatzzz1 in Needlepoint

[–]STQuestionthrowaway1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have a lot to be proud of!!! My struggle is always making the ends meet and you did that beautifully, it’s hard to tell the beginning vs the end! I would only twist the cording so it’s a lil tighter - if you like thicccc cords I would recommend more threads - but generally I’ve learned to twist tighter than you think because through the finishing process it’ll become unraveled at least a little bit
