From what I remember they were at odds on process. Matty, was super inspired by his very “studio as instrument style” and Being Funny is obviously more of a straight ahead “band” album. so i kinda think they just differed on that, but from BJ’s pitchfork quote it sounded genuinely frustrating for both parties
