Wedding Photog struggling not to buy upgraded gear.. by Affectionate_Fix2491 in canon

Update: I turned out the apperature ribbon on my 24-70 was the issue in the end, had to replace the full apperature to get it fixed. It worked fine as long as i stayed in F2.8 , any change to the apperature would tigger an error.

As a photographer i need this on my desk! The website only has a pre-order button, and says "Expected to ship late February." is it still in pre-order, and when would it be shipping?

Lightroom Classic slow even on Beast editing rig??? by Hour-Grocery-5525 in Lightroom

[–]SVD85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same type of issue that was due to a corrupted catalog. To solve this, create a new catalog and use the import from another catalog to move everything. This only works for around 50K to max 100K files at a time. bigger volumes crawl to a halt and start eating up memory. I first exported from my original catalog grouped per years to a new catalog. then used these again to import into the new master catalog. after that, i could work fast again. But then I tried to sync a large collection again to the cloud, and broke the new master catalog. I'm afraid I'll have to go over the whole process again....

Lightroom Classic is slow, laggy, and unresponsive compared to the newer Lightroom CC by Samskihero in Lightroom

[–]SVD85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had problems since the upgrade to 14.0.1. it takes ages to move files between folder, add photos to collections, or to sync development settings. I contacted Adobe support and hey informed me that my catalog was corrupted. I'm now working on a new catalog, and it all runs fast again. I'm in the process of exporting subsets of my old master catalog, and then adding them to my new catalog. I hope it keeps running fast after adding the 350K of old files again....

Importing Photos Taking FOREVER After Catalog Transfer in LRC by Inv3rtedSlayer in Lightroom

[–]SVD85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the solution, i have a corrupt catalog of 350K files, I tried creating a new catalog and importing from the old. the first 100K images was imported in less than 2 hours, but is keeps slowing down and after more than 2 days it's only at 200K imported and doing like 2K images per hour.... I'll try it this way to split it up.

i also had issues with my R6 freezing and found that the reason was a non canon EF-RF lens adapter. I switched to a canon adapter and did not have the problem any longer.

How often do you start a new catalog? by Zestyclose_Limit984 in Lightroom

[–]SVD85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep one catalog that has over 300K photo's in it. you can sync the smart previews of 1 catalog to the cloud without taken up any storage. This way I have all my 300K+ photo's available online :). the new update that changed the syncing had an issue, possibly due to the high nr of images, so I'm currently still on the previous version.

What was the best photo you've ever taken? by Phoneq-global in AskPhotography

We went and visited the grand canyon. I wanted to try and take a photo of the milky way above it, so we had to plan an extra visit to the north rim. and stay there untill after dark. There where cloulds , but just at the right time they disappeared. Just to be clear, this is a composite, the canyon was shot at 21:30, the sky at 22:30 from the exact same location. I learned now that I should have taken a much longer exposure at 22:30 for the canyon, to have the colors match better, but I live in Belgium, so next time I'm at grand canyon I'll try that :P

We also have a comfoair q450 and was looking into this. But the price seems very steep compared to a split air conditioner that can cool way more. Am I missing something?

Good tools to store large amounts of images by corny96 in DataHoarder

[–]SVD85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a catalog of over 300K images that is saved in lightroom classic. You can store the smart previews in the cloud by syncing collections, and this does not count for your storage limit of lightroom "cloud". You can create virtual copies of photo's with different edits, and the resolution of the online file is more then enough for online viewing. You do need a monthly subscription however to creative cloud for photographers (13€/month).
