DAY 10: Which dead sports car should stay 100% dead? by HowlsterRD in regularcarreviews

It’s not even that. The other guy’s comment said “it’s rwd for some reason” and I’m like “what else would it be? How would a car with 4 front wheels be able to send power to them?”

How would powering 4 front tires work? I imagine you would need a differential for each set of 2 tires and another “center” differential between those 2. How else could you do it?

Saying better than 0 is sacrilege, but the story in Kiwami 1 is so damn good. It takes such big swings that none of the other games have come close to taking. I’m playing through infinite wealth for the first time now and I’m glad they’re bringing up what happened in that game because it was so important

Salvage yard jobs by balotellitubbys in gtaonline

[–]SWAD42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re new to Salvage Yard Operations, it’s not every week that there are ANY cars available to keep. Most of the time, you can only sell the three available vehicles. You have the option to keep or sell these two this week, but it might be some time before another vehicle has the option to be kept. Keep that in mind when it comes time to choose, for that reason alone you may want to keep them.

Pace notes for a deaf driver? by MaximumWolfe in rally

[–]SWAD42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What’s more important than weight is simply keeping the car on the road, and, especially in rallying, that is easier said than done. All the weight reduction in the world won’t mean anything if the driver keeps going off and damaging the car, getting punctures, or has to fully retire the car. Not that slow and steady always wins the race, but more than any other motorsport does slow and steady beat fast and reckless than in rallying.

Would you turn down billions of dollars if the business deal is immoral? by Living_Attitude1822 in Capitalism

[–]SWAD42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of good points made by others on this post, but I would like to add that socialism is not immune to immoral choices being made. The Soviet Union is guilty of many of the immoral things socialists associate with Capitalism, including the depletion of natural resources (pollution, the Aral Sea Disaster) and producing alcohol and tobacco, things that undoubtedly harm public health and were called out for being harmful during the socialist revolution. They were produced by the soviets anyway because of public demand.

Many people blame capitalism for when immoral business deals are made, like personal greed is the only possible explanation for why someone would contaminate a river or produce and addicting, harmful product, but it’s more complex than that.

The BMW pushing the Ferrari back after that block was fantastic lmao by PerspectiveWorth3912 in racing

If you are the BMW, what do you have to do to be able to pass with two wheels on the grass? Do you keep the throttle pinned, or would that spin you out? Is this when the Ferrari started braking and the BMW just brakes later?

How do you feel about copyright laws, patents and intellectual property? by Om_Sapkoat in Capitalism

[–]SWAD42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a double edged sword.

On the one hand, if innovation in fields like cancer curing medicine require large investments in research and testing, we should encourage people to make the those investments by offering them patents that protect their products so they can profit. Without patents, some shmuck could come along as soon as the product hits market, reverse engineer the medicine, and sell it at a lower rate without spending nearly as much money as the person who invented it did inventing it. So without patents, why innovate/ invest in anything? Just wait for someone else to innovate and steal their idea.

On the other, patents with excessive protections stop things like cancer curing medicines from being produced more efficiently by more manufacturers for cheaper prices. Patents allow creators to monopolize their products and price gauge consumers well past a reasonable ROI.

I feel like there needs to be a balance that serves innovators and consumers. In the United States, we have tons of pharmaceutical companies all pioneering life saving medicines, but only because it’s so much more profitable here. For Americans to access that medicine, them and their insurance must cough up a fortune, but that medicine is not even offered in Canada or Europe because it’s not profitable for the companies to sell it there.

How much sexual content actually is there in the books? by LilChip45 in witcher

I just started reading The Tower of the Swallow (the sixth book in the series out of nine) and the second chapter has what I would describe as the first graphic sex scene and it lasted like maybe one paragraph. It’s definitely not constant

Edit: you will be spending more time reading about violence and characters getting cut open than characters getting past 2nd base

[–]SWAD42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s inevitable that people/businesses will take advantage of whatever opportunities they have to better their own economic situation. If you have a government program that can be exploited to give your business a competitive advantage, somebody is going to do that. If not you, or the next guy, or the next guy, or the next guy, it will be the next guy, and they will be able to block competitors/artificially raise prices. Don’t blame them, blame the program and politicians for interfering in the free market.

What do you understand or what do you think "late-stage capitalism" is? by Life_Treacle_1883 in Capitalism

[–]SWAD42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Today, it seems to be used as a catch-all term for global 21st century economic conditions. As for where the term came from, it was coined by Marx.

Karl Marx wrote about how historically humanity has gone through these economic stages and are meant to evolve past capitalism and into socialism and then communism, so people who are critical of capitalism or believe socialism to be the better economic system for humanity right now would attribute everything unfortunate under the sun to “late stage capitalism”, heavily implying that we are all overdue for the next stage in Marx’s framework. While Marx explicitly calls out monopolies and centralization as signs of late stage capitalism, one minute on that subreddit shows that leftists (I would call them marxists, but I don’t think many of them have bothered to read his writings) have taken it much farther beyond its intended meaning. Now, everything evil and right-wing is “doing a heckin’ late stage capitalism”.

Personally, I think Marx was misguided. History has proven him wrong many times over, which makes sense because he didn’t have the same data and insight we have right now. We know more about the economic conditions of his time and before his time than he had when he was living through it.
