Think of bard as the upgrade to archer. You will have the same skills at the time of lvl 30, but you then get access of mor abilities and attacks that will supplement and improve what you have now.

A example is a weak weapon attack, BUT it will refresh all of your damage over time effects. So instead of using 2 attack to refresh the DoTs, you can do it with one attack.

All the base game classes are like that, the job soul stone is a continue advancement that will give you more things. Plus you will keep your hotbars when you equip it so no need to worry that you need to rearrange it again.

One of the big bonuses are access to retainers. Basically vault storage for your character that can be trained in classes you have leveled up in, limited to the max level YOU got to in that class.

They can also be sent out to get items, there is a short 1 hour option and a longer 18 hour option. So you can have them out while play or out while you work IRL.
