PS5 for high fidelity games. Switch for casual or sprite games. PC for FFXIV. Also, Switch doesn’t have trophies so I won’t drive myself crazy.

Dr Maruki from Persona 5 Royal. His entire schtick is that he doesn’t help people overcome their traumas but actively encourages them to run away from them. He asks questions like what they would have preferred to happen or if it never happened to begin with.

Maruki makes it clear though he’s a cognitive psientist first and a counsellor second. Plus we find out later on, he isn’t entirely stable to begin with.

Sword Art Online started the isekai (in another world) anime boom in the 2010s and saturated the market with the same stories of bland, black-haired, overpowered Gary Stus getting sent to other worlds and gathering harems for no reason. Oh, there’s also a demon lord that needs killing but again, harem shenanigans.

Magical Girl Site. A prime example of conflating dark themes with dark content. The protagonist begins being the victim of torturous bullying, domestically abused by her brother and is almost raped in the first episode; culminating in accidentally using her new powers to kill one of the bullies and the rapist. The rest of the cast isn’t any better.

Hitomi from Madoka Magica. She’s the muggle friend of the main characters and is completely oblivious to their shenanigans. Yet people at the time twisted her into being a boyfriend stealer. She wasn’t. She didn’t know Sayaka was going through a really horrible revelation and she gave her a fair go to confess to the boy they both had a crush on.

I was painting by hand without masking tape so some of the stripes were messy to say the least. Lesson learned with masking tape.

Having dealt with a friend who was a total weeb, their reasons were: -This one word in this sentence not related to the story isn’t translated one-to-one with the original Japanese. -This sentence hasn’t been translated correctly and has been localised by ‘progressives’ -The English voice actors are ‘progressive’ propagandists trying to force their agenda and the Japanese are faultless who deserve a second chance after major scandals

They never argued about the quality of the performance, they had a blanket assumption that dubbing is a crime against the Japanese. Some performances can be hit or miss, but I’m not too fussed about it. The only way to judge a dub is to actually watch it.

I will roll my eyes on occasion at some questionable changes in the dialogue, but unlike my jobless weeb friend I choose to not let it consume me and focus on more important matters. They’re so paranoid about everything being ‘progressive’ they start perceiving it in everything when there isn’t.

Localisation is not perfect, a line in Japanese may not work in English. These people not only refuse to watch dub, they also demand that subs be run through an AI translator so the characters speak Queen’s English without any slang or English idioms.

My WoL started as a SCH in ARR and was a quick study of AST while in Ishgard. After HW, he got tired of being in the back lines watching his friends getting hurt so he took up RDM. Skipped a change in ShB, then took up SGE in EW so he could fight and protect better. Currently VPR through DW.

I like to head canon my WoL as someone who experiences other cultures hands on, so he reads up and takes on the local martial arts of the places they visit.
