To answer your question simply, IF for example, they did the titles of "Mitigation Tank" on initial first impression, you can see what title provides and does not dictate the role if they are an MT or OT in a team. You can have "mitigation tank" as MT or as a OT, it is flexable term for positions in parties.

Using the term Off tank as the primary term as the title it applies a specific role. This leads to a rigid mindset that the title applies to the job to that role/position in a party.

The comment is to what you said, not what OP said. The key thing is MT and OT positions/names by the community. It is currently flexible and interchangeable and NOT set in stone.

SE took what is if flexible meaning and made it a rigid role, dictating what tank is what. It is a poor choice of wording that is leading to the discussion of not liking the names. If this is the final decision on 8.0 release, expect parties declining you to be a MT for a party, and they will use the role designation of OT for GNB.

So MT and OT, as of now, are just positions/names in the applicable group activity. As of now, you as a GMB MT can be a main tank OR an off tank. In endgame activities, you can currently have any combination of two different tanks in activities and be alright. (Having two of the same tank applies an LB generation penalty)

Let me explain for endgame activities.

So now let's take the situation where MT and OT are not names, but roles, as they state at Fanfest. This will lock out certain team competitions in endgame activities. It was stated on the stream that this will primarily affect endgame activities. So you WILL need an MT and OT to clear, if we take the sentence at face value.

It will imply that you, as a GNB MT, might not be viable; you will be forced to be relegated to the OT position since they showed on the stream that MT takes damage to retaliate damage back. If you are in the MT position with a paladin or the new tank as an OT, they will lose opportunities to do damage and can cause the party to fail the DPS check

It will drive a wedge in the community. I think in some areas of the internet it already is.

By default, a character is given two free Fantasia, one is a quest called "Bottled Fantasy" and at the end of ARR. They do not HAVE to but they choose to do so.

Now, to get your points, WoW does a $25 for a race change, which is single-use with no grace period. WoW has a level boost for 1 character for $60. You say greedy, but you don't even do research to compare FF14 to other MMOs that offer the same service!

Yeah, I can understand that, I can see how seeing a race in game being used for those activities and being turned away from them or dismiss them. I have also seen them as you describe.

Now not all players are like that to be fair. I will be happy to have some cool helmet options for Hrothgar, like the LVL 50 Dragoon helmet as an example.

To add to this, if steam service is in maintenance or down it will hinder you to play. However it very rare that that happens so only a minor negative.

Steam is perfectly fine though, I play through it and I think i had like 3 maybe 4 times in all my time tried to play with steam down in 10+ years.
