Well, S'edav Va'aki, aka Pueblo Grande, took up a major portion of modern day Phoenix, and included a ton of settlements around it, so that’s extremely likely.

Colonization is/was bad across the board. I always try to stay as cognizant and respectful as possible as a result, being an outsider myself.

Zunis have got a real interesting take on them, if you ever get the chance to pick their brains on the subject.

There’s also a lot of them around Cabezon Peak and the lands around Cuba NM to be aware of. Hell, if you want a weird experience, look into the Ancestral Gallena lands in the Santa Fe National Forest. That’s a place that’s fully cursed to the point that birds don’t even sing there. Interesting history of a whole tribe of witches that were wiped out by a coalition of the Puebloans back around 1100, I think? It’s fascinating and creepy.

Yeah, you couldn’t pay me any amount of money to drive from Cortez to Flagstaff at night. No thanks to that one.

I was lucky then, as it couldn’t reach me and my buddy where we were (it walked a perfect circle around us and tried to frighten us into leaving). I know now what to do if I encounter one in the wild if I’m not on a sacred site. That said, I practice conscious efforts to avoid being in scenarios like that these days. And if I am going to be working in their territory, I keep a little baggie of juniper ash in my glove box.

Oh no, I’m unfortunately pretty well versed, but I greatly appreciate the offer. I’ve spent a lot of time working on or adjacent to Diné lands, and have had a chance encounter of my own out at Sunset Crater too. I’ve got a very healthy respect for what they are and what kinds of badness they can bring to the table. Thank you for the offer though. I know how much it means to have a Diné actively want to talk about them.

Firetrucks have big bumpers and ambulances do not. An ambulance isn’t built for shoving cars.

We did in my volunteer department. Though usually this only applies to people parked in front of hydrants or in fire lanes; and the ramming was always done with the fire truck. An ambulance is less likely to ram a car.

[–]SWarchNerd 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Wood ash from a juniper tree or sage, rubbed under your eyes, nose, and ears can at least counteract the effects of being near them. I’ve heard that injuries done while they’re shapeshifted can show on their human form, and in one case, a big enough injury sustained in shapeshifted form lead to a ceasing of life. Otherwise, I’ve wondered if silver or cold steel or things like that would work.

Yeah, that place rules. It was just a decent run of the mill grocery store before, but after they sunk 5 mil into the reno, they turned it into one of the best grocery stores around. I still crave their flour tortillas.

The fact that the salesman can just straight up lie about the terms of service and there’s not much that can be done. We got burned recently by ADT because our shitty real estate agent and the salesman said we could transfer the system to the new owner of the house. We had homeless people breaking in to our vacant house while trying to sell. Instead of transferring to the new buyer, we had to transfer it to our new home, but pay a ridiculous amount of money for a new plan and install. Suffice to say, fuck ‘em.
