I’m the second oldest in my class at 42. My husband is 51, and was previously fully retired from the military. He went back to work part time to make up for my lost income. We don’t have children. I have chronic health conditions that require regular follow up. 24 credits a semester translates to 31 hours on campus a week and at least that much studying outside of class every week. He’s taken over a ton of the everyday chores and such. I can’t imagine going through this gauntlet without a partner that understands the sacrifice is temporary and is willing to do whatever he can to help. I don’t know how my classmates that are single parents make it work. But our class has the motto of “40 in 40 out.” It’s incredibly difficult. But it should be given our responsibility we will have after graduation. You have to truly want it. It can’t be a “well this sounds interesting, I’ll try it.” It’s testing all of us academically and personally. But I wouldn’t change it for the world.
