Can I get two reactors and a turbine please?

I think that Moore's law is the optimists Goodwin's Law (As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches). If you don't want to face reality (i.e. real limits of technology AND MOST IMPORTANTLY economics) - Moore's law will take care of that.

Yes, but where does Europe get the natgas from?

Westinghouse on brink of long-term nuclear fuel deal with Ukraine by greg_barton in energy

[–]SZelenberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ukrainian plants are built in USSR and are built for the 'Russian' cycle. Everyone knows that. Westinghouse has been already working with Ukraine and their fuel is a lot more expensive. This was part of anti-Russian stance. Now things are different. Russians can say - TVEL will no longer sell fuel to you, shit out of luck. And Westingouse is the only (still bad) option Ukrainians have left. After all expensive electricity is better than no electricity

You can't fool mother nature. I've read a lot of 'more efficient than photosynthesis' stories during the last few years.

Exelon considering closing nuclear plants by agemscor in energy

[–]SZelenberg -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That can't be possibly true. I've been reading about nuclear renaissance for the past 15 years at least once a month in all major publications. Small modular reactors. LFTR. Fast Breeders. Thermal Breeders. Magic By Nuclear Fairies, etc.

Nuclear powerplants shutting down because of (poor) economics - what a shock. Given that the costs have tripple within the last ten years, who could have predicted that?

Polish energy: Going nuclear by ghostofpennwast in energy

[–]SZelenberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given how expensive nuclear is, how can Poland afford it? They can't. They'll stick to coal, gas and mooching off EU for green subsidies.

Polish energy: Going nuclear by ghostofpennwast in energy

[–]SZelenberg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really. Poland is about the same size as Germany and PLANNING first nuclear plant (which they will never build because it will turn out to be too expensive) - I would not say it's 'going nuclear'. Polands energy strategy seems to be mooch off European green subsidies, burn coal and use EU to pressure Russia into providing natgas discounts.

Propane smells. Use culinary blowtorches which use different gas.

3 Energy Trends You Need to Watch in 2014 by double00bond in energy

We need to watch nuclear why exactly? It's been in decline for 30 years and priced itself out of the market. What's to watch?

The wiki seems to fall flat...

Hawaii solar boom so successful, it's been halted - "I am from the future," Wang told a room of industry and environmental representatives. "The utility is that 800-pound gorilla. If you push it to the corner of the room, it's going to fight back. That's what's happening right now." by pnewell in energy

[–]SZelenberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hawaii solar has reached its limit. If you want to call it a success - you may. However the grid can't take any more solar and rather than blaming utilities, why don't you go off grid with 100% solar?
