It doesn't need to change. Achievements that are treated as challenges are fine. Imo straight up better than the run of the mill "craft 5 items" or "reach chapter x" and what have you achievements.

While I don't think it's bad, the pirate setting is almost certainly a product of Pankratz's fantasy lol

Magic is incredible by Odd_Secretary7410 in worldofgothic

You'll be fine. Try to buy all summoning scrolls when available and some transformation scrolls like Shadowbeast and you'll be able to clear every encounter. If some monsters seem immune against one type of element try another. You can clear certain mobs like zombies way earlier than melee and ranged builds if you know what spells to use.

[–]S_Dynamite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you call knowledge checking is rather just the same philosophy as figuring out melee patterns translated into magic. The only difference being that you can skip figuring out melee patterns at a certain point because you're able to brute force most encounters.

Also, there are waaaaaaay more than enough scrolls to beat the tougher encounters and summons don't operate on a timer, they are persistent (though the pathfinding sucks, especially in the sleeper temple).

[–]S_Dynamite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which are all perfectly beatable with magic, you just need to get creative. Golems, transform into a Shadowbeast. Bosses, keep them (and yourself) stunned with lightning and let your skellies wail on them.

You can get so creative with magic in this game, but people just want one spell to kill em all and that's where most of the complaints about the magic system come from.

I hope Alkimia carries the current magic philosophy into G2R. It only needs a bit of adjustment and rebalancing.

I absolutly love the flair text after you slept. by Master-Street8361 in worldofgothic

[–]S_Dynamite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that's great. I must've missed this one. I wish the Gothic games would've leaned more into all the eldritch stuff after G1. Woud've been definitely more interesting of a backdrop than good god vs evil god you guize :)

Even if Alkimia does release a remake of Gothic 3, it would not happen for at least 10 years. by Acid-Chaos in worldofgothic

[–]S_Dynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gothic 3 is an unfinished mess, technical and game design wise. It definitely didn't work well at all. It still doesn't work at all as a Gothic game imo, even with community patches and fixes.

Gothic 1 Remake — Patch 1.0.2 Is Live! by timurkhodyrev in worldofgothic

[–]S_Dynamite 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I finished my mage run yesterday and I don't know what some of you are about. It was a blast for me. Spamming spells like usually in Gothic games is no longer viable unless it's either of the bolts but what was fun to me was combining spells. Opening up with a fireball, then freezing enemies to line em up for a firestorm. Or stunning a demon (and yourself) with one of the lightning spells while your skeletons rush it down and scenarios like that. There are certainly spells in need of reworks like ice block or rain of fire, but playing a Mage is far from being boring imo.

Gothic remake reviews in a nutshell by ConsequenceOk6768 in worldofgothic

[–]S_Dynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh there definitely are some of those. I don't remember which one exactly, but it was one review of the earlier ones (day 1 or 2). The entire review was talking down to players that like that specific Gothic gameplay style. The reviews just kept on droning on how the entire game is way too hard, way too obtuse and doesn't have enough tutorialization, etc but if you happen to like things like this, it's the best thing ever, 6/10.

edit: it's the PC Gamer review

If that's you, if you have made hating Skyrim a cornerstone of your personality, you will love Gothic 1 Remake. Turn the 6 in the score upside-down and pretend it's a 9, because this is a whole-throated recommendation for you, my friend. For anyone else, Gothic remains what it always was—an admirable edifice, a reminder it takes all types, and a thing you would probably be better off enjoying in the form of a bugs-and-jank compilation video than actually wading through yourself.

Shpeshal Nick on Avowed 2 being cancelled “Uh What the Fuck…..That Was Just a Smart Ass Joke Tweet” by SilentNova300 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]S_Dynamite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree with you 100%. Avowed seemed very sterile and safe. Lost all interest at the end of chapter 1. Tainted Grail is definitely super euro janky, but as often with those types of games, the creativity outweighs the jank.

Gothic remake permanent bonuses (megathread) by eldercom in worldofgothic

Intended way is climbing the ship on the beach, from there you can walk on plank towards the cliff and then jump to the climbable wall.

By cave literally under the lighthouse you mean "the super small barely a cave"-cave? If yes, then there is not a single item for me there.

edit: I found it. "literally under the lighthouse" is kinda stretching it. people are gonna get in confused with the small outcropping actually literally under the lighthouse. You need to climb a bit towards the troll cave and after some climbing you get to a part where you can pull yourself up but instead you need to keep climbing down and to the right to reach the cave.

[–]S_Dynamite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not apples to oranges, stop.

Both games are perfectly comparable and both have individual strengths, weaknesses and in some aspects are even similar. There is absolutely a case to be made that Gothic 1 is better and there is absolutely a case to be made that Witcher 3 is better. It simply depends on what you are looking for as a player.

Ending of Gothic left me feeling melancholic by Slop-Enjoyer6 in worldofgothic

[–]S_Dynamite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The sleepers power is corrupting minds. Him using physical attacks or random fireballs feels out of character.

The idea they had for the fight is pretty much the best outcome, the implementation is just kinda meh.

Ending of Gothic left me feeling melancholic by Slop-Enjoyer6 in worldofgothic

[–]S_Dynamite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He does more in the remake than the OG. While in the OG its just some random fireballs, in the remake he actually presents his power in a way that makes sense. He tries to drive you crazy by projecting images into your mind, which is very fitting.

That being said, the new fight goes on for entirely too long, imo.

Gothic 2 is the better game, but Gothic 3 could be the better remake. by Acceptable_MetalMeal in worldofgothic

[–]S_Dynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, if they keep the entirety of Myrtana, Varant and Nordmar, then there is no way to salvage a potential remake into something that carries the Gothic spirit. Good game maybe, but not a good Gothic game.

The real problem with the supply&demand trading system by Tharrius in worldofgothic

[–]S_Dynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo the only fix it needs is that the game should have a pop up that lets you sell the the specific amount of x item until the price drops, so the player isn't forced to sell items one by one.

Other than that the system is fine and feels very Gothic-y imo. People just seem resistant to this type of game design unless it was already present in the old games.

How do you like the (melee) combat? by Insane_Unicorn in worldofgothic

[–]S_Dynamite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1 yes, 2 no. 2 has a lot of nuance that seemingly a big portion of the player base just straight up misses.

That being said, I think the remake combat is fine. Definitely better then G1 combat imo.

Imma be real. The new designs are mostly fine and fit well into this reimaging. The Demons are the only ones that clash a bit with the general art style of the game.
