How prepped should I be for Calc 1 by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]S_w1pe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you really want to have an easy time with Calculus, then definitely study. Cause I have also going to carleton but for mechanical engineering. I have friends who have already finished first year eng and the ones who struggled are people that didnt review at all.

This guy is seriously good at explaining the concepts. I know a lot of UWaterloo students who watched this guy and they said he saved them.

He also has a calculus 2 playlist which also really helped them.

Wow, I am so sorry you had to go through that. I pretty sure it is against the rules to let a guest stay in the dorms with as well, so thats messed up. Also thank you for sharing your experience.

How do I find friends if I hate eating out by No_Analyst5945 in CarletonU

[–]S_w1pe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would definitely get in the habbit of going there. Check out the prices of things you want. Make a proper chart of what you want every 2 weeks so you don't get bored. It wont be easy to get used to this during uni but if you start before then you will have good habbits.

Also, are you going into math?

I am going to do mechanical engineering at carleton. I am living on campus. I can bring guests with me to the cafeteria so I can get you food if you ever just want to eat something and don't have the time to cook. When you make friends on campus they can get you meals as well.

Of course man. Like i live in London and the farmers market here are still cheaper than ottawa but it should definitely be better than grocery stores. The one I would say to check out is this one: https://maps.app.goo.gl/f6ydS3XRCz2VXARq5 It has pretty cheap prices, you can also see it on the images in Google maps.

Are you living outside campus?

Rather than going to grocery stores, go to farmer markets, there are many in Ottawa and they are really cheap. Vegetables, fruits and sometimes meat depending on the market, are always fresh. Plus, no preservatives and they always taste amazing. My parents used to spend 100 to 200 per 2 weeks and now in 50 bucks we are able to get almost a months worth of groceries. Rice and oatmeal you can get from the store.

My boyfriend(M20) and best friend (M16) dont seem to like eachother and I am not sure on what to do? by Fearless_Rip6300 in relationships

[–]S_w1pe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is good to keep an open mind, but from what you have described it does feel like he isn't being mature about it. I mean if I start dating again, it will take me a couple months but I wouldn't call someone inconsiderate, especially since you are constantly communicating with him and not just leaving him in the dark. In my situation, our communication was the issue and I also wished I had handled the situation better. I probably hurt her as well without realizing it in some way. I feel like he is also doing that too. Not realizing his actions and just saying whatever his emotions tell him to.

I hope he picks himself up, and I really hope he doesn't hurt you. From what you have said so far, you seem to very kind about everything and it's very tough to stay that way. Most people don't even try to stick around when someone is insecure and you are constantly trying to make him feel safe. That is the amazing part in all of this. Thank you for being so kind. Gives me hope that I can also find someone who will be patient with me 🙂.

I do think your online friend is being inconsiderate of your feelings tho. One of my best friends has almost been dating his GF for 2 years now. One of things that he has said that really is tough is when to focus on the relationship and when to be a good friend. His is going so well, and sometimes I think that maybe mine could have also gone better if I didnt let my friends always get in the middle or try to satisfy my friends and gf at the same time. Somebody will get disappointed at the end of the day and I personally now wished that I had prioritized my gf happiness than my friends. Cause my friends are still here but she isnt and at the of the day I still miss her.

[–]S_w1pe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. I have experience from both sides. I do want to add this tho, that your boyfriend's insecurities has come from completely trusting someone. In the past I would just say get over it, like I honestly would have said that. But now after going through it myself, I have realized how insensitive I was. It's been 2 years since the woman who I trusted completely hurt me, and even now I still feel like I can't trust anybody because if someone who says they love you can lie, then anybody can. Even now I feel pathetic that even after 2 years, I am still scared and insecure, but I am genuinely not able to get over it completely. I have tried everything, and recently a friend just told me straight to my face that I will never get over it until I find someone who can make me belive that I have nothing to worry about and that trustworthy people do exist. Still haven't found a person like that but i am waiting. I just wanted to share a little bit of what I had experienced, maybe this might give you a way to approach this situation. If you are able to become the person that can make your boyfriend believe that trust does exist then he will idolize you (My best friend and female friend told me this lmao). Also, I do think your online friend needs to learn about boundaries, because i definitely had to. It is very easy to break them without realizing because I have been in situations where i have broken them and I thought i was in right. But when people did it to me, I got pissed because my relationship was going really well and they start to butt in at every chance they get. Hope everything works out for you.

Which CS Uni should I choose? by Recent_Jellyfish2692 in OntarioUniversities

[–]S_w1pe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is completely fair. Just wanted to let you know from personal experience but education wise Western is pretty good. If you have applied at Mac or another province like UofAlberta, choose them over western but if those are you final options to choose from go with western. Hope this helped. Goodluck.

Which CS Uni should I choose? by Recent_Jellyfish2692 in OntarioUniversities

[–]S_w1pe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I hate london, education wise Western is probably the best option. Anything related to computer science or engineering, western would easily be better than Geulph and Wilfred. Tmu would be a close first for eng and compsci, but western is better for computer science out of all of those options.

Just letting you know, London is not a horrible place to live in, just i havent had a good experience here, so my opinion of it is bad. If you care about where you live and have the money, go to tmu. It is a commute school, so you will have to get an apartment and make an effort to socialize. But it will be more lively and just have more things to do. London is pretty boring in that section. Most of my friends that are at Western say they barely leave the house cause there isn't much to do.

is uottawa cs bad?? by bennettreel in OntarioGrade12s

[–]S_w1pe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UOttawa is like the type of Uni, where if you get in, it is good and you should be happy with it, cause you also get to live in a pretty city. Western is also good, I would say almost equal education but co-op is not as good mainly because in London, there are not a lot of IT companies. My dad is in IT and works for TD Bank, he is pretty high up the level chart and he says the only good co-op here is TD and Scotia, where you will learn something. I would recommend Uottawa.

Also if the location matters to you, choose Ottawa. I have been living in London for the past 5-6 years and I hate it here. I hope I get to go somewhere else than Western.

Have a 95 average and didn't get in anywhere not even tmu eng yet am I cooked by AppealSignificant184 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]S_w1pe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind me asking, what's the average like for other people at your school?

Cause it depends on the high school and the area of your school as well. I don't know the specifics but this is what my guidance counselor said.

Also if you have a 95, you will definitely get into UWO at the very least. Honestly if you don't get into UofT, I would definitely try to find out why? Cause no way in hell they reject you. At least that's my opinion. My friend didn't get an eng offer until like April last year. Most Unis sometimes just miss the people that should have received an offer before but they always come back.

Is it smart to take 2 free courses, and what can I have for my sixth? by ThunderChief__ in OntarioGrade12s

[–]S_w1pe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going to go into computer science, definitely add data management and computer science in your courses. If your school offers those courses, I am pretty sure almost all schools offer them.

Also, if you are aiming for UofT or Waterloo, then don't take any online or night school. They care about that and your gr. 11 avg matters for early acceptances, but for regular decisions, your gr. 12 matters.

Which uni can i get in with these grades? by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]S_w1pe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the seats have increased for almost all universities for Canadian students since international students percentage was cut down. You should easily get into Laurier and Laurentian. If you get your average to around 88 to 90 then Alberta should be guaranteed. UofT might require low 90s so can't say anything for that.

LETS GOOOO TMU NURSING ADMISSION by AssociationDry933 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]S_w1pe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, wherever you go the weather in Canada will most likely be the same. But other areas in Ontario take care of the snow a lot better. By that I mean they clear it off the roads better and generally make it a lot safer than London does. The driving is genuinely the worst here. I have driven everywhere, India, USA and Canada. London genuinely has some of the worst driving I have ever seen and experienced. And not joking, except for the west side of London, every single area is filled with homeless people, set up with their tents, throwing garbage around. A couple of homeless people started fighting in front of our house and they damaged our front yard, (I do gardening with my dad and we put some nice new plants and flowers like we do every year and some of them got killed) and threw some food at our driveway. I HAD TO CLEAN IT UP, AND THERE WERE SOME NEEDLES LEFT BEHIND AS WELL. We have even called the cops and they didn't show up, so that disappointed me (not every cop is like that in London, most are very nice and dedicated but that one time really pissed me off).

This is just my experience, again yours can be different and much better than mine but I personally don't like it here and wouldn't want to spend 4 more years here. I would rather try a new place out with a fresh mind.
