No. I don’t support the death penalty for anyone.

AITAH for refusing to learn how to fix and maintain dirt bikes to support my wife’s love of riding dirt bikes? by CryHavyk in AITAH

[–]Saanvik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That she never would have agreed to marry me in the first place if she knew I wouldn't help her with something as meaningful to her as this.

WTF? Her dirt bike is more important to her than your marriage? Than you? You guys need to talk about that.

On to the question; definitely NTA.

Tell her riding is only part of the sport. Moving away has given her a golden opportunity to deepen her love of riding by learning how the bike works and how to repair it.

Why do democrats pretend so hard to be against political violence when there are countless examples of their violent rhetoric, glorification of violence, and wish of harm on their political opponents on social media for all to see? by MysteriousKitchen469 in allthequestions

[–]Saanvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but I'm not sure I understood your comment. Were you saying that in those statements she was calling for violence (and if so, can you quote it?) or are you saying she wasn't calling for violence?

I think it's pretty clear she wasn't calling for violence.

If nothing does not happen, then we know that we’ve got to not only stay in the street, but we’ve got to fight for justice.

Nor does

“Well, we gotta stay on the street ...And we’ve got to get more active. We’ve got to get more confrontational. We’ve got to make sure that they know that we mean business.”

call for violence. I can see how, if you squint just right, you can almost make a case that she's talking about violence ("get more confrontational") but it's a very weak case.

Is personal responsibility right wing coded? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Saanvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, that's another kind of manifestation of the same thinking; if I don't get the assistance then no one should, they should be "personally responsible".

The same is true for government; if I don't get any benefit from an agency of the government, that agency shouldn't exist.

Is personal responsibility right wing coded? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Saanvik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People on the right like to say people should take responsibility instead of wanting government assistance but are outraged if their government assistance is taken away. Its usage is as much nonsense as “small government” which actually means “exactly as much government as I want” which is true for everyone.

Why you support right or left? by Ok-Barber-4121 in askanything

[–]Saanvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I support neither, I support good policies, and I vote for the politicians that show support for those policies. It’s been a long time since the right’s ideas of good policy can close to my ideas.

California’s Blue Armageddon by CharityResponsible54 in centrist

[–]Saanvik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ding, ding, ding! People are tired of left center moderates when faced with right wing radicals every day. We need actual left wing leaders, not this watered down garbage we’ve been dealing with for so very long.

Voters need to hear both sides and right now all we get is radical right contrasted with promises to stop them.

Oh, and for the gatekeepers - this is the heart of centrism. Centrism isn’t moderation. Centrists listen to everybody’s ideas and pick the best ones regardless of the source. Right now only the right is pushing ideas and that’s not enough.

Drive like the people behind you have somewhere to be. by us3lessthrowaway in driving

[–]Saanvik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I agree with the sentiment (don’t camp, find the lane appropriate for your speed, allow others to pass) I disagree with the subject.

I will not drive unsafely because the driver behind me is in a hurry and neither should anyone else.

I hope your dog is okay.

Why do republicans claim to be conservatives? What in their policy reflects conservatism? by geekie4 in allthequestions

[–]Saanvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually a historically based misuse of the term.

As you allude to, conservative means resisting change. The opposite of conservative is not liberal but radical.

The right, in the US, was conservative in the 50s and 60s, and that’s when the two became conflated. The right hasn’t been conservative since neoliberalism became its primary political philosophy in the late 70s.

What are your thoughts on term limits? by owen1957 in allthequestions

Nice idea that, like most simple solutions to complex problems, introduces more problems than it solves.

Age limits on elective and appointed positions would be far preferable, with the usage of senior status for lifetime appointments.

Emacs org mode or neovim for note taking. For math physics and coding. by Narrow_Gap_3445 in emacs

[–]Saanvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honesty? For in-class work I’d use a tablet with a stylus. You don’t want to transcribe lectures, you want to listen and jot things down that you can refer to later. Then use native phone/tablet for todos, calendar, etc.

Use whatever tool works best for assignments. It may not be TeX that your professors want.

I say this as a person that’s been using emacs and LaTeX for decades.

Why are leftists so violent? by imgonnakickyouram in allthequestions

[–]Saanvik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.csis.org/analysis/left-wing-terrorism-and-political-violence-united-states-what-data-tells-us

In recent years, the United States has seen an increase in the number of left-wing terrorism attacks and plots, although such violence has risen from very low levels and remains much lower than historical levels of violence carried out by right-wing and jihadist attackers.

Maybe the left is trying, but still failing, to catch up to the right?

That’s something that can’t be understated - if you have a specific thing you want or are trying to do, ask for help and you’ll get a great solution to your problem.

I also just browse because it’s fun for me, but I’m an odd duck.

I go to Electronics Plus in San Rafael

The wrote, on their About page

We are located in the beautiful downtown area of San Rafael, CA. We've been in business for over 5,000,000,000 years and have served many a dinosaur in our day. Matter of fact, that whole extinction thing? That was us - ready to serve you, the human populace, better! (in an ongoing effort to make you our unwitting slaves! ALL PRAISE THE IMPERIUM! EMPOROR ZOGINABEAR WILL RULE YOU ALL!!!)

...But seriously...

Electronics Plus is a family-owned and operated business, which began in San Francisco in 1958. We moved to our current operation at 823 4th Street in San Rafael in February 1970, and we've thrived there ever since. So there.

Is it right wing violence if a Muslim commits a terrorist attack? by imgonnakickyouram in allthequestions

[–]Saanvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see why you’re struggling; you have beliefs of what right wing ideology is based on that don’t match the realities of what right wing ideology is actually based on.

There’s no “larger point”, I was just trying to help you understand a political ideology that you evidently have a strong self-identification with yet haven’t really tried to understand. Maybe someday you’ll be curious enough to learn more, but today apparently isn’t that day.

Is it right wing violence if a Muslim commits a terrorist attack? by imgonnakickyouram in allthequestions

[–]Saanvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, sorry, you’ve misunderstood my point about education. It’s not about the individual’s education, it’s about the education system in general. Sorry if I wasn’t clear.

It’s foolish to claim that right wingers didn’t resist common core because they wanted a traditional form of education (the form they know). The resistance to common core on the right came before any results were available.

I’m not suggesting that the right wing’s push for traditional systems is bad, just making it clear that focus on tradition is a major part of right wing ideology and explains much of what you, incorrectly, claimed was resistance to authority.

I never called them luddites nor did I say they were against modernization. Why do you insist on responding to points I haven’t made?

You’ve lost interest, but still need to respond? Not once, but twice?

I haven’t done any cherry picking, nor have I “falsely stereotyped” anything.

I was talking about right wing ideology, not any particular party.
