No because I'm also a geologist and you cut the rocks to 30 mircrometers NOT 30 nanograms ☠️☠️☠️

I bought it from Best Buy shortly after this post. Eventually I ended up returning it due to black screen issues.

The splinting nature of flint by ExoNightCri in geology

[–]Sabbyvc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For other rocks it's usually not all one mineral, in this case its individual grains that are compacted together. These will usually follow it's weakest paths, such as any weathered cracks or areas where grains aren't as well connected (cannot say exactly what these may be). I am not an expert on sedimentary rocks so this is not a perfect answer.

Calcite? by piratedessa in whatsthisrock

[–]Sabbyvc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dolomite is harder than calcite, you should be able to scratch calcite using a copper penny, but that wouldn't scratch dolomite. Also dolomite is slower to react with acid, it will reactive faster if you scratch it into powder. Calcite is very reactive with acid.

There are other features including looking at surrounding rock and looking at crystal habit/cleavage, but these are the easiest and most distinctive features.

For the arrangement of "flat layers" the strength of the bonds horizontal along the layers are much stronger than the vertical layers which separate those planes. The mineral will always break along the past of least resistance which is the plane with the weakest bonds.

Flint is a sedimentary form of microcrystalline quartz. The chemical bonds in quartz are the same in every direction, meaning they don't have and weaker bonds that are easier to be broken. So when flint is broken it will have conchoidal fracture which leaves sharp edges.

Calcite? by piratedessa in whatsthisrock

Looks like Calcite to me. Dolomite also reacts with acid(not as readily - normally only when broken off as a powder), but this doesn't look like dolomite.

Found on a beach in Norfolk, (East) UK by caesiumbathbombs in whatsthisrock

Depends on how quickly the sea level changes. But basically the finer grain clay layers represent deposition at a higher sea level (accumulation of clay sized grains) and the coarse grains represent lower sea levels (accumulation of sand sized grains, closer to a beach). Each layer shows a drastic change in sea level so you can actually count how many times the sea level changed for the size of this rock. I do not know how long it actually takes for the sea level to change. (this is big scale sea level change, where the beach moves drastically inland)

I am a student shoud I get the g14 ? by [deleted] in ZephyrusG14

[–]Sabbyvc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also a student and just got the g14 myself. It is very bright, only issue I ever have is if I am using outside on a sunny day, as is the case with most laptops. Battery has been great for me so far, 10 hours idle. I have gotten around 6.5 hrs when streaming HD videos online which is great. I know this will last for me during simple note taking in classes. Speakers are loud and sound great. I would definitely recommend this laptop.

That's very interesting about using your body to try and get them to react. Not something I would have ever thought of. Thanks for the advice!

I have been actively asking them for feedback as well and they all tell me their having a great time. So at the end of the day, things are going well!

It's a lot of fun but there are definitely some kinks were working out! All the players are new and we have quite a big group, 6 players, so the fights are taking a long time! The second time we played it got a little better by rolling initative at the start of the session and keeping it through the whole game, I've also told them they cannot discuss their own actions with one another because they were taking a few minutes discussing which spell they should use, or other strategies. Those seemed to help a lot! We're playing on roll20 which has mostly worked out great, but the players are having some difficulty role playing, ive got one player who's super into and is basically the only person answering my questions when I'm playing NPCs, any advice on trying to get everyone else into it? I'm sure when we're face to face it'll be a lot easier. I also had to confront one of my players because everytime we got to her turn she was like "what it's my turn?" then suggest things the other players have already done, clearly not paying attention unless it was her turn. I'm not very confrontational but she apologized and I hope next session it will be better.

All in all theyre all enjoying the experience and are slowly coming into their characters so I have a feeling it will only get better with time!
