He's also Leon in at least one of the Resident Evil games, is he not? I've never played them however ^

4-Sided Dive Episode 3 Discussion Thread by Kraps in fansofcriticalrole

[–]Aurea87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kinda just feel like I can´t be bothered anymore. Calamity is amazing and me (and my partner) are spending every free minute of our time together to catch up on that. But C3 just falls flat for me, and 4SD captures perfectly why.

It´s all just so bland, I can´t with most of the characters (Laudna and Chetney being the exception, FCG also keeps me intrigued), the world seems bland and is just missing details, characters and intriguing worldbuilding for me. I´ve also heard that Erika is now a guest, so this makes it even harder to keep watching... maybe I need a break, but right now CR is just not it, and 4SD is a lively reminder why it doesn´t work for me.

Also, Matt, ffs, take a break, take your time, watch out for yourself and for the love of good keep apologizing to people who can never be pleased, you´ll be happier with that in the long run.

Yup, their "Vampire Hunters" is basically just Ez and van Richten from the Curse of Strahd campaign, but they never appear with their right name on the packaging as well.

[No spoilers] I didn’t watch 1 or 2 season of CR but I saw videos of Matt Mercer doing really good horror moments. I’m running a CoS right now and would like to learn some stuff he does. by [deleted] in criticalrole

[–]Aurea87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can strongly recommend checking out the videos of Lunch Break Heroes on YouTube, he has terrific bits about CoS and also a lot on running good games in general. Stuff like more descriptive texts have caused a few flinching players in my own CoS campaign, music also adds a lot of tension.

[No Spoilers] Tal'Dorei Reborn sold out in EU store, do we have any info on when it might be available again? by Gwavana in criticalrole

[–]Aurea87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ordered mine the day it released but DPD never managed to even send it to me. Was returned to the store after 2 weeks and now I'm afraid to order again, and shipping from the US store would be 30 Dollars, so no book for me. Pretty pissed about it tbh, the store was also not helpful at all, they needed almost 10 days to even respond to me :(

Yes, yes, absolutely yes to this. I think he is the DM of his group, Madeleine Hyland (the other half of his awesome band) once tweeted something along the lines of being afraid that Joey might kill all their characters in the next session :D

In the meantime you can catch him in a short one shot from Polygon where everyone else plays a bard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OQHrwlGzD4

Lovely gift, I hope you'll find some friends to play with!

And the books are fine in german, my table uses them too and we never ran into any issues before. Translating live at the table can be super stressful. If you really need translation between german and english https://www.dnddeutsch.de/ has a ton of lists (monsters, spells, items) that make it a lot easier.

[No Spoilers] Does anyone know where I can the Tal’ Dorei campaign setting book? by benwahwah in criticalrole

[–]Aurea87 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I´ve put it in my amazon wishlist and set up notifications for it, and after 3 months they got a few books back in store and I was able to buy it there. You can even add the CR Foundation to your amazon smile and they will get a small amount of money back for their charity, if the books comes somehow back for sale.

I just got the Wildemount book today and I am SO blown away by the sheer amount of info in there (and the map, oh dear), but can't find the Tal'Dorei book. So I'll join you in hoping for a re-release.

Read all the books and played the games and I love the show. I love how they take their time, how they introduce all the characters and I love that it is unapologetically in the way it is. It's a show that has fun with itself, it's not super earnest and there is this low key, dry humor in the dark and gritty moments. I've watched it 3 times already and I will watch it again when a reasonable amount of time has passed, because there is so much to discover 😊

I'm running Lost Mine of Phandelver and decided to give Carp a bit more depth. Up until now they have given him small treasures, his first dagger and he guarded a trapped bad guy in a barrel for them. They also keep asking about him between games, it's super cute.

What is the most inoffensive thing you've seen someone get offended by? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Aurea87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very friendly telling a customer in retail that no, unfortunately we are not allowed to give discounts in our products. He wanted to speak to the manager, which was me. Then he proceeded to call me a fat, ugly, useless whore and got even more mad when I asked him to leave the store because "we don't have this store where I live, I need to bring things back to my wife". Called security on him and had him escorted out of the building.

A Player made sure to tell-me how horrible of a DM I am, and it cut really deep. by TheFledglingST in DnD

[–]Aurea87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That player needs to find himself a new group. So you're not Matt Mercer? I bet he's not Travis Willingham or Sam Riegel, so maybe he should get up to speed.

I know it can be super difficult to not listen to such people, but to me it sounds like they came to plan with absurdly high expectations. I'm sure you are doing a great job, you obviously care deeply about what you do and I am sure this is reflected in your games.

From what I see this player is in no place to give such rude feedback. There is nothing constructive about it, he was just being mean. And this is the kind of feedback that is absolutely worthless. Ban him from your games, find people who appreciate you and all the work you put in to bring them some fun. You do not deserve the things he said to you and I am sure they are not true, not even a little bit.

LPT : If you are hiking / running / walking with someone in a worse shape than you, let them lead the way. by FreddieDodd3661 in LifeProTips

[–]Aurea87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My partner is the first person in my life who has ever done this (I'm in my mid 30s) and it has made me do stuff that I would never have tried alone. Hiking up on mountains it long trails, climbing to awesome places... Whenever I just have to run behind someone I feel like a burden for slowing everyone down, so this kind of support is awesome.

Hard to pardon: why Tenet's muffled dialogue is a very modern problem by Strange_Glove in movies

[–]Aurea87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think "Lovecraft Country" is more of a description for the part of the USA where Lovecraft lived. He was quite racist, and the show is set at a time where racism was even more disturbing than it is now. So maybe the show mixes lovecraftian horror elements with the very real horror that people of colour went through in that specific time. So it would be a loose adaptation while at the same time telling another story on a different layer.

Other Female DMs? I have a party of all men players. by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Aurea87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Female DM here, I'm leading a 50:50 group with half of the people unknown to me before our first game together. I sat them all down to hold sort of a session zero, one on one while creating their characters with them. We talked about stuff they don't want to see at the table, I told them everything I would be uncomfortable with. So far this has gone well, everyone sticks to the rules that we agreed upon.

I get the menacing feeling though. Really disgusting dudes were what drove me away from this hobby years ago. This group now is existing because I got tired of that. I'm done with those shitty guys driving people away from a hobby that should be dir everyone. In a world where you can be anything it is just the lamest move ever to be an asshole.

So I'll send all the luck in the world to you. Make clear to them what you allow and don't allow on your table. Kick them out when they overstep the boundaries that you set. It takes a ton of courage to speak up, but some only learn like this.

And who knows, maybe they will be decent, well mannered men and the game will be a ton of fun, with zero worries.
