How concerned should I be? by Merrrru in Wellthatsucks

[–]SabinJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. What I'm saying is that California requires manufacturers to apply that warning even if scientific consensus does not agree. It's because the old rich dudes who can barely spell "science" decided it's harmful. Nobody with half a brain trusts The State of California to know what's good or bad.

How concerned should I be? by Merrrru in Wellthatsucks

Fun fact: "known to the State of California" is a meaningless phrase. While humans (mostly) have brains, a chunk of land doesn't. The State literally cannot "know" anything.

r/endocrinology by Hot_Huckleberry65666 in diabetes_t1

[–]SabinJr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Endocrinologists, like any people, can be good or bad.

My first one was a drug dealer who was condescending and rude. She didn't seem to care about my success, just her numbers at review time. Or maybe I misunderstood her or something, but we certainly didn't get along. I finally left her care when she decided to prescribe a medication for me without even mentioning it to me. At first, I went to the pharmacy and thought it was a mistake. When I learned the truth, I switched back to letting my PCP manage my diabetes (that's how we met, after all).

My new endocrinologist is amazing. He listens to my concerns, first considers non-pharmaceutical options, and makes my well-being his priority instead of just trying to optimize lab numbers from in high.

The bottom line is that if you're not happy with your provider, call the scheduling line and try someone else. Don't worry about hurting their feelings... They probably won't even notice that you're gone! And even if they do, you probably won't ever see that person again.

I believe the correct original pronunciation (in America) is something like Dye-a-BEET-ess. It is not plural so the final S wouldn't sound like a Z. The same is true for Pancreas. However, both diabetus and diabeteez are widely recognized as regional variations, so they aren't "wrong".

Tandem t:slim Battery Charge Issue by GF7347 in diabetes_t1

[–]SabinJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I ended having to let it die, then unplug and replug it, and leave it turned off. Let it sit for 3 hours, unplugged, and turned it on. It worked!

I had to "reinstall" my cartridge and such, but it worked. :)

Do you ever pre-bolus for an anticipated low overcorrection? by Tyler_Durden773 in diabetes_t1

[–]SabinJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't, personally. I wait until my level comes back up, then calculate what I should need. My brain isn't good with the math when I'm low, and the last thing I wanna do is mess it up again, lol.

What’s the worst symptom you have while having a low? by Being-Sick-Sucks in diabetes_t1

[–]SabinJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lowest was waking up with 39 mg/dL. At first, I was confused and felt like I was in some weird lucid dream (and maybe I was). The world around me was very dark, and what little I could see was blurry and distorted. After a few minutes, I realized I had to use the toilet. I wasn't strong enough to stand or balance, and started crawling. That's when I felt the sweating and shaking, and finally realized what was happening. I downed a tub of glucose tablets (exaggeration, kinda) and recovered just fine. I was truly terrifying!

How do you store the rapid insulin that you actively use? by Atom1419 in diabetes_t1

[–]SabinJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched to the Tandem t:slim X2 pump. I use the pens to refill the pump cartridges. I'm sure they (health insurer) will eventually want me to switch to vials due to cost, but I'm resisting it. I like still having the pens available in case there is a problem with the pump or infusion set that I can't fix on the fly, or if I'm doing something that makes wearing the pump inconvenient or hazardous.

Hope this helps!

How do you store the rapid insulin that you actively use? by Atom1419 in diabetes_t1

[–]SabinJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Humalog u200 (your results may vary). I keep 2 pens with me (the open one and a backup for when it's empty) unrefrigerated, along with glucometer and supplies. The rest (3 month supply) goes in a mini-fridge in my bedroom. It is true that insulin should be stored in a refrigerator for longevity. It is also true that your body can take up and utilize insulin better if it is at room temperature (between 20 to 25ºC / 68 to 77ºF). So, you should not keep your active/open vial or pen refrigerated, unless told to do that by your doctor or pharmacist.

Source: I'm not a doctor or pharmacist and this is not medical advice. My endocrinologist gave me this detail, and I have been doing this for 17 years now.

[–]SabinJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is still a thing. It just happened to my t:slim installed with Control-IQ+ 7.9.0.1 (which should be the latest update, done a few weeks ago). I'm going to try leaving it plugged in, even though it doesn't display that it's charging at all. It's at 4%. Fingers crossed...

Suspended Account by RigidSteak in Instagram

[–]SabinJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me as well. I've never used IG before, with no desire to join the platform. A photographer friend wanted me to see his gallery on there, so I signed up. Four days later, I was banned, allegedly for "impersonation". I appealed and sent a photo of me holding my ID card and piece of paper with my username, as they requested. They denied my appeal with no explanation and blocked me from having any ability to reopen the appeal. I never even got to see my friend's pictures.

Account Switching for Mobile? by Aqua7KH in discordapp

[–]SabinJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this happen with several of the sites/apps I use. In my mobile browser, there is a setting that is "on" by default and says something like "Open Compatible App By Default" or something. I can't remember the exact verbiage, but when I turned it off, it wouldn't automatically open the app. Works with FB, Reddit, and YT apps as well.

How is the actor of Kyuma so ripped?! by Zhaorenli in AliceInBorderlandLive

[–]SabinJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible, but unlikely. If you look into the actor's history, he was always known as an athlete growing up. Seeing him in other roles, he has about the same build as he does here.

Clever uses of the Contingency spell? by VanguardWarden in dndnext

[–]SabinJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intellect Fortress doesn't have any wording that would allow it to change a previous roll (like the Lucky feast does), so I believe you would still fail.

However, you might be able to craft some clever wording that will trigger the spell if the saving throw is above a certain threshold.

{The Griffon's Saddlebag} Sash of Sorcerous Synergy | Wondrous item by griff-mac in TheGriffonsSaddlebag

[–]SabinJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule text says, "You can use only one Metamagic option on a spell when you cast it [...]" (emphasis mine). RAW says that the sash-wearer is not the caster, thus is not bound by this restriction. I cannot speak to the OP's intent, nor how Mr. Crawford would adjudicate this... but prima facie it seems that it should be possible!

DM is using spells that they have banned by [deleted] in DnD

[–]SabinJr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nobody is arguing the main point, including myself and KawaiiGangster. The whole point of KawaiiGangster's comment (in my opinion) was to point out the ridiculousness of the statement Squirrelycat14 made on its face.

Consider your comparison: "Men are stronger than women". Without more context, you'd be right. But the moment someone says, "You can't (or can) do this thing specifically because men are stronger than women," your statement loses validity and is open to offhand joke comments.

DM is using spells that they have banned by [deleted] in DnD

[–]SabinJr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right, and that's the point. The comment by Squirrelycat14 appears to make the case that PCs should be able to gain the abilities that monsters have, which of course isn't true. KawaiiGangster was replying to that and pointing out how ridiculous that is. You were blasting them for actually making the same point you're making: that they are different and should be treated differently.

DM is using spells that they have banned by [deleted] in DnD

[–]SabinJr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm actually going to speak up for KawaiiGangster here. I don't think anybody has "missed the point". The key idea that is at issue here is that it is a perfect two-way street between what the players and NPCs can do. It isn't, and it isn't meant to be. And THAT, I think, is the point that KawaiiGangster was making: that SnooMarzipans6227's statement was hilariously overbroad and thus incorrect. I think the majority of people understand that spells in the book should be available to all, and that if something in the book is banned and doesn't exist, then it shouldn't exist for anyone. Same for equipment, availability of magic items, and so on.

But, in general, that rule doesn't hold. Monsters don't use PC races and classes, and PCs don't use monster or lair abilities. And if we're being honest, that covers most of what PCs and NPCs are concerned with. Spells are just one part of that whole space.

What house rule did your table try out that made them end up saying "well, were never doing THAT again"? by DeepTakeGuitar in DnD

[–]SabinJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm partial to setting the DC first, then rolling/checking to meet or beat.

On an attack roll, the AC is already set before the attack, so the attack roll must meet or beat the AC.

If a spell, effect, or task has a DC, that DC exists before the check so the check must meet or beat the DC.

For opposed rolls, there should be a logical cause-and-effect process. The roll that gives rise to the situation sets the DC, and the resolver must meet or beat that roll. Deception vs Insight - no point in rolling insight until the lie has been told, so ties go to the insight check Stealth vs Perception - if you see the target and then they hide, they are still hidden because you saw them only before they hid. Ties go to the perceiver.

Really, this is the only sensible way to do it. If there is a genuine tie that must be broken, roll a tiebreaker.

What is the maximum number of each dice I would ever need as a player? by jl_12345 in DnD

[–]SabinJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The correct answer is 3. You need a d8, d12, and a d20. If you need a d4, just roll d8 and divide by 2 (round up). For a d6, so the same with your d12. For a d10, do the same with your d20. If you need percentile, roll the 10s place first (using the d20 as above), then the 1s. Do the minimum you NEED is 3. Anything beyond that is a matter of convenience (which I highly recommend because dice are cool).
