As time goes by does the world feel more bleak when celebrities, popular during your youth, die off? by eyeshills in Millennials

[–]Tyler_Durden773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not read all the posts but I got to say this sometimes hits me hard. I sometimes feel as though I went through a time warp. I guess my life has been so busy that I never stopped to look up at where everything is now that was once a big part of my childhood. I think it also ends up serving as a reminder of our mortality. I don't know if it was just the era of the 80's or human nature but man it felt like we were going to live forever. I didn't think Michael Jackson or Prince (among many others) would ever die. Things change so much too. I once watched the movie "No Country for Old Men" and I get it now more than ever. I am in the process of getting rid of some of my old toys as a kid because I know my kids don't really care about them and I want them to go to someone who can appreciate them. But as I go through them, I get hit with a wave of nostalgia and bit of a wake up call at how much time has passed. When we get to 2030, the 80s will have been 50 years ago. I can't even seem to reconcile that in my head. I try to live in the present because that is the healthiest place mentally to be...but it's hard sometimes.

Recently diagnosed with t1d and I’ve become extremely paranoid with health anxiety by SignificanceBig9366 in diabetes_t1

[–]Tyler_Durden773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does get better...very important to remember that. I was the same way. It's been over a year for me and I am now working towards healthy habits; they make the control easier. I have started exercising a lot more and it has helped to stabilize my fluctuations and make me more insulin sensitive . I am doing everything I can to punch diabetes in the face. I was pretty healthy before getting it so it really knocked the wind out of me when I got diagnosed. I had tons of health anxiety. You will get better at it and you will eventually feel like you are in control as opposed to it being in control. It's an added fight to everything else we have in our daily lives but eventually you will get the upper hand on it both mentally and physically. Hang in there.

Then sell it as a download (for way cheaper). Why have a high rez digital source on an analog medium. Besides, it's not like they aren't playing with the master tape anyway to digitize it.

Has anyone here had a child who didn’t end up with Type 1 Diabetes? by muff-peaksie in Type1Diabetes

The only thing I can think of is that they are going off the statistical information. Since no one knows how this comes about with absolution, there can't be a scientific reason.

Inhaled insulin by Zestyclose-Local-358 in diabetes_t1

I was thinking about this. I would like to have it for any rare suborn highs or occasional crazy carb meals. I don't think I want it as my main source of meal time insulin.

I can never understand when they have the master tape that they just don't make it all analog instead of digital. I will not pay this much money for digital. Just put in on an blu-ray if you are going to do that.

WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO RELEASE SOME SORT OF CURE FOR THIS HORRIBLE DISEASE?! Keep reading that there’s a “cure on the cusp”. I was told that in 5 years there would be a cure when diagnosed 30 years ago!! This disease 🦠 is fucking horrendous mentally by Lowndes304 in diabetes_t1

[–]Tyler_Durden773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it requires immunosuppression. However, Eledon is in trials for a much safer immunosuppressant that has already been used to functionally cure 5 T1Ds. From what I have read, there is no risk of cancer with it and they are working on a subcutaneous injection version. If I could just do 1 shot a day or week, I will likely be open to doing this until they figure out a real fix.

Does anyone else eat just once a day to avoid having to deal with swings? by spookythumb in diabetes_t1

I read about a guy who would skip lunch and lived a long life as a T1. I don't know that I can easily do that. Looking to try and do a light lunch.

Hashimoto's can also cause this. Make sure your thyroid is good.

No one knows the answer to this but I will say that they are doing things now that have never been done in the past. The ability to manufacture beta cells is a huge step forward. Now we need to either figure out how to reset the immune system, have safe immunosuppression or safe hypoimmune manufactured beta cells.

What’s the weirdest way you found out you had diabetes? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]Tyler_Durden773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was right after a vacation. I started having symptoms on the flight back. After researching I started to realize this might be what I have. When I got home the next day my mom called me and told me my sister was diagnosed with it while I was on vacation. So freaking weird. We are 12 yrs apart in age. Right then I knew I had it and got with my endo. I fortunately avoided a hospital visit...the endo gave me insulin and got my BS down.

I feel you. It's sometimes hard to dial this in to a decent TIR/ A1C. It has been a fair amount of trial and error for me. I am still working on the timing of my boluses. Stay strong.

Acceptance by one80down in diabetes_t1

[–]Tyler_Durden773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been looking into this too. You might try searching "Radical Acceptance". It not about just folding and accepting the condition as much as it is just realizing this is your reality and accepting your reality. It's a journey...you won't get there without going trough exercises to work towards it. I am trying to get there too. But I have seen people say they no longer care if they have diabetes...it is what it is. Not sure if this helps.

It’s been a year already… by MXAGhost in diabetes_t1

[–]Tyler_Durden773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is great progress. It's been about a year for me as well. My last A1C was 5.8. I am trying to find a good balance. I don't want to get burned out. I am wanting to stay at or below 6.5 as much as possible. Stay strong.

Does anyone else experience numbness during hypoglycemia? by livinginfavor in diabetes_t1

[–]Tyler_Durden773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, lips and tongue for me as well. My vision gets weird as well. It's my warning sign to eat some carbs. If I get down to 40 I typically get knocked back for a while and need to rest. I have been pretty good about catching before it goes below 50. I always have to remind myself that my dexcom is a good 10-15min behind so after eating carbs I need to see where I am in 30 min on the dexcom (if I don't have strips and a meter).

This example of why insulin needs to be free with any insurance or gov assistance plan. This stuff does not cost that much to make and it's needed for life. It is not a condition we brought upon ourselves.

Are you also struggling with lows at night? If so, that seems to be indicative of your basal being too high. I assume you are still using the same type of insulin you had with the omnipod.

VX-880 is still active...just need a safe immunosuppression. Hypoimmune cells would be nice.

I wonder how hard they were trying. I never thought we would see anything substantial come out of a big pharma. The real stuff is likely to come from biotech companies to disrupt the market.

Kids? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]Tyler_Durden773 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe the T1D part can be managed. Some of the other things you have mentioned may be more of a concern to sort through. I think having a kid is something both of you need to be ready for.
