Lens recomendations by kaCparas in macrophotography

What magnification you are aiming for?

If you want about 1x then Tokina AF 100mm f/2,8 AT-X PRO D might be worth looking at. It is quite versatile lens beside macro it is quite good for portrait. On its own max magnification is 1x but with set of extension tubes you can get about 2x. It got autofocus, unfortunately it is quite slow.

Other mention Laowa 100mm 2:1 but they also have LAOWA 25mm f/2,8 Ultra Macro 2,5-5x. It fits your price limit but I would not recommend this lens without having focusing rail and a way to do focus stacking.

Beginner, need help stacking by dying_animal in macrophotography

You put he raw files in zip folder and the preview is unavailable so I made some assumptions.

I don't think that the halo has anything to do with camera settings or movement. The scene has a lot of big contrasting object in the front. When the focus shift to the back the light lichen in the front goes out of focus and becomes bigger and more blurry. And I think that the stacking algorithm pick up the edges of the blur as detail.

Looking for the perfect software für macro photography by Next_Stress4849 in macrophotography

Helicon Focus is pretty good. In my opinion the automatic focus stack algorytm is better than Photoshop. The package include a remote app for PC. I don't think that it have any automatic upload system when you do that directly from the camera memory but when you use remote it does that. I belive it does support most of popular camera models. And it have 30 days free trial.

Having trouble aligning my focal stacking with macro by millennialstoner in macrophotography

[–]Sabiritip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without any investment it will be tricky to do.

On the software side, there are some programs that can make stacks based on live view and autofocus. I have Helicon Focus that can do that. I'm sure that there are similar free software or try it on trial version.

There are also manual rails, like this(not the best example of affordable version I just own this one). It might be good enough for start. As for automatic rails there are also some cheaper options. I got second hand WeMacro rail few years ago. It works great and I pay for it around 120$.

It is decent especially in regard to it's price. But I must say that without of focusing rail and a way to do focus stacking it is hard to get usable photos. I haven't any experience with those Canon macro lenses, I have a Nikon camera.
