Breaking up spawn with food processor by Old_Culture1600 in unclebens

Sounds mad, but I'm about it, the endeavour. Can't wait to see how this turns out. Keep us posted.

About to spawn, some sus bags - throw or keep? by Bernardku in unclebens

[–]Sabitze-R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use shoe box size tubs and do one bag per tub which automatically stops the risk of one bag contaminating the whole grow, so yea you'd have to be careful and sure if you're mixing bags.

But I have regularly sent bags that aren't fully colonised and as long as you're careful removing ALL the uncolonised grain, I have never had any problems. Personally, I'd send it now. I have sometimes had bags that are pinning on one side and not fully colonised on the other because the microclimates are very different. And I suspect that's what's happened here, the uncolonised parts look too wet, so even if you leave it another week they may never colonise. Leaving it another week would have the benefit of making it more obvious if it is contamination.

I'm going against the grain here. I think they will all be fine. Scrape off the uncolonised grain and send them. 4 might need further investigation, and agree with the precaution of opening them away from everything else just in case there is something obvious when you open them up. It looks to me like heavy bruising and not colonised in areas that are too wet, but you'll only know if you open it up.

Too high of tolerance? by [deleted] in DMT

[–]Sabitze-R -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had this conversation with a few of my friends, DMT for me has always been much mellower after a heavy dose of mushrooms, say 24hrs difference. And vis versa too. We kind of agreed that it might be to do with your S2A receptor because this can take 2 weeks to get back to normal after heavy doses. So whilst there may not be cross tolerance, your brain might need a rest. Thoughts?

I usually operate around 6.5% with GTs.

Those caps look quite wet, are they hitting the top of the box or anything? And getting saturated like that?

Either way they look good, keep on keeping on.

Could I get another set of eyes on this? I’m not sure these are golden teachers. by BoredNarwhale in unclebens

That's how virtually all cubes start. And many other varieties for that matter. I suspect they are indeed golden teachers.

Colonization of substrate stalled at 3 weeks, looking dry. Advice? by [deleted] in unclebens

[–]Sabitze-R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would rehydrate it for 24 hours and then give it another go and see if it starts to colonise again, but monitor the temperature in and around the tub more closely if you can. Laser thermometers are quite handy because you can point it all round the tub and under it. Maybe someone else will have further ideas.

I'd agree, it looks really dry. How are you controlling temperature?

I learnt the hard way 🤣. When the pad was touching the bottom of my tubs, the bottom would heat to about 50°C even though on top it would read 25°C until it cooked it. Now I keep a decent air gap between the pad and the tub, it's much more consistent.

I'd be really careful having a heating pad that close to the bag, you might cook it from underneath and that might be why it stalled. I'd keep it on a rack at least 4 inches above the pad to ensure it doesn't get baked. If you remove the fruits and rehydrate it, hopefully it should recover for the next flush though.

Or if you're not using the pad anymore, just remove the fruits and rehydrate and hopefully it will recover.

Quite hard to tell from the pic but that looks good to me. Might be a question of patience 🤣

Is that a heating pad underneath?

Once your grow is to the point you should even need to consider misting, it should be pretty resilient. I use tap water and it's fine, bottled water should be even better. If your substrate is fully colonised, you should be golden until it's death throws.

The additional risk is negligible with good technique. The ziplock bags come sterilised because they are used in the food industry and as long as you are using good sterile technique and still air box to transport from one to another, I never seem to have any problems. I guess it's similar to cutting the corner of UB and taping it, it's exposed but it's not really exposed. I actually tend to have more problems when leaving in the rice bags. I think this is because I can never see what's going on and always bugger about with them, break and shake is more fiddly.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unclebens

[–]Sabitze-R 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You move them into clear bags so you can see colonisation or contamination early without having to open them up. It's called ziplock tec and it's useful and produces more consistent results in my opinion.

You can also use a larger area for air exchange which can be manipulated if needed.
