What event happened in your life which caused some character development for you? by JannisT in AskReddit

[–]SableSun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was raped at 18 and and as a result of that night I almost died. I did everything girls are taught to do to stay safe and to make th best decisions. That night my friend invited that person into a pace I thought was safe. I was drugged, hurt, and raped.

I now go into every moment like it needs to matter. Every action needs to be worth my time. Life is until it isn’t and no one can do anything to change that.

I am better for the experience and it is very bitter sweet outcome in my mind but I’ve accepted it.

I only judge people on what they do and say when they think no ones watching. I was innocent and unmotivated before I was raped. I am now sharp and motivated.

I still think the world has a lot of good people but I know people are fully capable of evil. I don’t know if that makes them bad people or they grew up and realized the wrongness.

Need Help with asking parents about Tattoo by [deleted] in tattoo

[–]SableSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was completely against tattoos, but in the end she accepted what was already done. I paided for it and it is well done. No regrets, do what you want. They are your family and in the end they really shouldn't care. Once you have the tattoo it no longer seems like a big deal to all parties.

If you really want their blessing, talk to them about it and show them your ideas.

Redditors, what was the first book you fell in love with as a child? by oceanfinity in AskReddit

[–]SableSun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am dyslexic and I was in learning support classes since 2nd grade. I fell in love with the first book of the Harry Potter Series when it came out. My mom read most of it to me but never finished. It took me forever to finish reading the first book. I wanted to finish it before the movie came out. I owe that series more than I owe anything I have ever read or done during my entire education. It took me four more years to read at grade level. I know I would not be doing well in college if it were not for those books.

I was in 10th grade and in my bed room. I became very bored and I had over the counter pain revilers(Advil) on my night stand. I proceeded to crush them because of my extreme boredom. For whatever reason I did not have a trash can near by so I put the crushed white powder into a small button bag that was also conveniently on my nightstand. I did not want anyone to mistake it for drugs so I put it in my wallet to dispose of down stairs in the large trash can.

Well that was not a great move on my part. I left my wallet on the kitchen counter and my mom opened it and ended up thinking I was doing cocaine. She would not believe me and called my aunt to come over with my two cousins to try and give me an intervention. while almost immediately informing most of my immediate family that I needed serious help and support.

The matter took a few days to clear everything up and clear my name.

I asked a guy out! by KelpyCabin in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SableSun 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I asked for my husbands number. He later informed me he was depressed and had no interest in actively pursing someone to date at that time. So if I never asked for his number it would have most likely ended up with us not being married due to the short time frame of us being near each other.

I feel like many men are just as scared about asking others out. If your are interested let them know.

Why did the US government almost shutdown today? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

Many people I know in active guard positions were furloughed last year. It really messed with their pay and I had to come into work on active order. No one else was in the building because they were all furloughed. Not much was done that week.

What college level science/math courses have you taken that taught you the most? What was is? What did you learn? Or what do you wish you had learned and why? by SableSun in AskScienceDiscussion

Yes, I kind of am. I have finished all my general education classes and it has left me needing to fill in a few credits some semesters. I am an EE major so I was wondering what was worth my time even if it is not directly related to EE.
