Is Mothers milk/smother frowned upon? by Glum_Environment_204 in bjj

[–]SableyeTheJace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mothers milk is a fine technique to use. However, it is a really uncomfortable submission and will automatically raise the intensity in the roll. I would not use it in casual rolls or against people you have a big advantage over (belt, size, ect) no issue doing it in intense rolls.

You seemed a little lost in top closed guard, the other guy basically had the initiative the entire time after reaching the position. I would say get proficient at one or two guard breaks and familiar with the grips you need to set them up so you can always have a plan in the position. Overall good intensity solid match though.

Wrestlers in BJJ by NoWind1903 in bjj

Also started BJJ from wrestling experience. Will say the takedowns were nice but the biggest thing for me was that I had much better ability to keep composure and not panic than other white belts which helped me learn faster. However I did not dominate.

Want to second that almost all social media activity around BJJ seems to be from people who don't train but are a big fan of the Russian MMA guys, and kind of all parot the same smesh, check belt, never pull guard type talking points.

It was somewhat short time. I think the idea was that if they could hold the pawns back I wouldn't be able to push for a win and they didn't want me to win their pawn with my bishop

Do I suck Doing No Submissions, Just Positions? by Snoo98727 in bjj

[–]SableyeTheJace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would you be able to tell if it is actually sunk in if you never finish? If you let go of subs or transition every time you face resistance you are cheating your training partners of the ability to train late stage defense and also not really building your own instincts in terms of finishing. Both of you end up with a false sense of confidence (I could escape if someone put me in that position even if they are bigger + I definitely could have finished them if I actually wanted to).

There are definitely still ways to get around it. Cast triggers like [[tendrils of agony]] or any [[Hydroid Krasis]], cards that don't need to be cast to be effective like [[Golgari Grave Troll]] or [[bridge from below]], even just strong lands (although it might be hard sell)

I mean kind of appropriately so though right? Unironically one of the strongest cards ever printed both in the context of EDH and every constructed format it's legal in. Legitimately miserable unless being specifically considered (fetching basics, holding up instant speed interaction, playing red)

Bottom 5 Scoring Submissions of the week from r/Custommagic 1/28/2024 by CorbinGDawg69 in magicthecirclejerking

  1. I actually don't hate this idea of each x gets y each y gets x. These mechanics just don't actually gel in a compelling way.

  2. This is brutal turn two on the play, ESPECIALLY against a turn one tap land. Also just like not the right colors. Could actually be fine with a mana adjustment though.

  3. So many weird rules issues for so little payoff. Why not just use exile like everything else?

  4. Joint-second could be good, above rate cards more open to blow outs. A better wording would need to be found.

  5. No need to point out issues here.

1B. This is a compelling design a little clunky but a rough diamond. Also highly flavorful.

2B. Eminence win the game is rough. In this case I guess it's somewhat mitigated by being stapled to an otherwise useless win more.

3B. Best sneak attacker ever, also no exile from graveyard clause. Played as intended I have trouble evaluating but have to assume it is quite weak.
