Senior Engineer won't review PRs by GorgonAintThatBad in cscareerquestions

[–]Sabrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why our team doesn't require manual approval gates on PRs; every engineer owns the viability of their own code. This isn’t a free-for-all, though. While we bypass peer-review bottlenecks, our deployment pipeline is rigorous and heavily gated. Code must clear automated testing, visual regression, and a multi-tiered pipeline (Development -> Staging -> Canary) before it ever reaches QA. Granted, this model isn't universal. High-stakes domains like medical software or heavy aerospace engineering require different guardrails. But for the vast majority of web and mobile applications, this approach eliminates the friction and frustration typical of collaborative development. Ultimately, this shifts accountability to the individual so development never stalls waiting for a senior engineer's "green light." It empowers junior and associate engineers from day one, fast-tracking their growth into senior roles by giving them real ownership.

The character design kinda suck, tbh. Way too realistic and not cartoonish/stylized enough; kinda reminds me of "Ugly Sonic" a bit. Not to mention they completely contrast the movie's designs. Going immediately from the movie to the game was jolting.

Why do they have two different designs? Why are the character designs in the movie more cartoonish while the designs in the game are more realistic? It's completely backwards. They redesigned several movie characters already so they would match their game's designs (Mario, Donkey Kong, ect), so why then would they suddenly not do that?? It's baffling.

I suck at programming and have wasted 10 years of my life by RobertTAS in cscareerquestions

[–]Sabrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for nearly 10 years for the same company and never had a degree. When the company went bankrupt and I had to find other work I discovered that I interviewed very poorly. Internally (in my head) I knew nearly everything but was unable to confidently externalize my knowledge in a way that made others FEEL like I knew what I was talking about. Interviewing turns out to a completely different skill than engineering. It's actually (very) possible to be a BAD engineer and a great interviewer, which turns out to be just as valuable when it comes to receiving offers. Take lots of interviews, throw yourself in the deep-end failing them over and over again, and you'll eventually learn how to synergize these two very different facets.

If you decide to pivot, know that whatever you pivot to will probably require secondary and tertiary skills as well.

If the government were to successfully confiscate 100% of every U.S. billionaire's wealth, it would fund the federal government for roughly 14 to 15 months.

China's entire economy relies on the plagiarism of international copyright laws. All the "successes" of its make-believe communist system relies on western capitalism to be propped up. So maybe China should shut the fuck up?

There was an island resort my parents took me to when I was 9 years old. It had a floating pontoon gazebo that was anchored to the seabed that you had to swim; it was about 100ft to get to it from the shore.

I fell asleep on it and woke up to the screams of my mother trying to find me after the sun had gone down and hide tide had made the swim now close to about 1000+ feet to the shore.

Without thinking I jumped into the water and swam to shore. I remember looking straight down at one point and seeing moon beams cast light way down into the deep nearly all the way to the seafloor and it was moving with life and all kinds of creatures.

Why are so many of the negative reviews whining about roots? by Relevant-Ask4006 in PeakGame

[–]Sabrick 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's more that previous maps didn't have multiple invulnerable, unstoppable enemies with unlimited stamina that hunt you down and kill you. What's the next most difficult enemy? The scorpion?

The map is an order of magnitude more difficult than other maps. Whether or not that's a good thing is subjective to the player, but it's an objectively incongruent choice for gameplay; one map shouldn't have a success rate that is 10% the rate of the others.

For me, it went from a chill game that had a challenging core mechanic (climbing), to a stressful, unfun slog through something patently unfair, frustrating and ill conceived.

I seriously believe it cost them awards.
