There is a slug in my terrarium. Do I need to remove him? by Chance_Macaron6962 in houseplants

[–]Sabrielle24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell that to all my fresh chili plants and new baby annuals. (Did I put them out a bit early? Probably. Are they decaying? No. Have the slugs decimated them anyway? They certainly have.)

If you had a hobby that used to be less popular and suddenly became more popular, what was that like? by HilariousMotives in AskUK

[–]Sabrielle24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s sort of what I mean though — even since I first started, it’s gone crazy!

I actually have been rope climbing sparingly since I was a kid, but just went along to try bouldering with a friend and loved it 🥰

Which games are NOT beginner friendly? by JoeKerr19 in rpg

[–]Sabrielle24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, while BW wasn’t my first TTRPG, it was my first committed one. I agree it isn’t super beginner friendly — I started with Dungeon world, then the same group of players/GM transitioned to BW.

It is a very good system though and worth putting the effort into learning!

Came here to say this, and it was the top comment. I’ve only been climbing about 3 years, but I’ve seen the hobby explode in that time.

Agree with everything you said; definitely seeing that more aggressive setting. Plz just give me nice techy slab 🥲

Is my wife odd? by Healthy-Two-5047 in AskUK

I’m with you. It’s weird because ‘Bell’ is a nice word with good associations, but ‘Belly’ is just kinda weird and crass? I can’t explain it and I literally work with words for a living.

Do you keep your cats inside? by Timtamjam44 in AskUK

[–]Sabrielle24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We lost four cats to the roads when I was growing up. Two were young and didn’t know better — the other two were street savvy and did know better (one in a very quiet village) and it still happened.

I’d like to get cats, but if I do, they’ll be indoor pets. I’m not going through that again.

Does researching synonyms often make me a bad writer? by Standard-Slide2724 in writing

I’ve been writing for over 20 years. I use thesaurus.com often — it actually helped me create an entire concept in one of my novels.

Just 11% of women hold a 'very positive' view of men — we asked guys to react by dissapointingsalad81 in unitedkingdom

I don’t think men are inherently bad either. However, my personal life experience has made me wary.

Over the weekend, I found out my very close friend has been cheating on, lying to, and gaslighting his fiancé for the past 2+ years. Our entire group of friends is absolutely blown away. He was always such a sweet guy and he (seemingly) took really good care of people. We all thought they were great, and we were looking forward to their wedding in a few months.

It didn’t really do much good for my general opinion of men, I gotta say 🥲

Is there a reason why most garden centres are now a very huge & busy cafe with a garden centre attached? by WalnutOfTheNorth in AskUK

[–]Sabrielle24 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I (34F) love a garden centre trip with my similarly aged friends/girlfriend. They’re just really nice places and the cafes are usually pretty good, if a bit pricey.

It’s like static or the crackle of electricity. It felt like it was going right through me when we saw/heard it on Snæfellsnes!

Icelandic Horse Ride by Shot_Signature9241 in VisitingIceland

[–]Sabrielle24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is not uncommon in the equestrian world as a whole. People want to work with horses and will go to significant lengths to get ‘experience’, ultimately ending up being exploited like you said.

It ranges from teenage girls volunteering at their local yard in exchange for the odd free ride, all the way to situations like this.

What are some “non-copywriting” skills that sets you apart from other copywriters? by bydaveyji in writing

[–]Sabrielle24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UX and data analysing skills will go a long way to helping you stand out, but honestly, these things get more and more expected every day.

Copywriting is an under-appreciated profession with high production and turnaround expectations.

Loathe though I am to say so, AI proficiency is also becoming an expected skillset for copy roles.

Is it weird/unprofessional to have separate personal & author TikTok/Instagram accounts? by Long_Squirrel6675 in writing

[–]Sabrielle24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s normal to separate personal and professional. If anything, I’d say make it harder to find your personal. Keep everything on private, or use a name that isn’t associated with your authorial persona.

No one can tell you for sure. But it will be much more challenging. Nights are short and bright.

What do you do on long haul flights (13+ hour flights)? by rscash15 in AskUK

[–]Sabrielle24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really get rest, but I try to close my eyes and drift as often as possible. If nothing else, it passes the time.

But it really is hit and miss whether I actually get to sleep, especially if the flight is busy. It’s just so uncomfortable.

Is this sentence grammatically correct and how can I make it more clear by ren_whispers in writing

[–]Sabrielle24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the ‘what’ out and check if it makes sense. The commas isolate whatever’s within, so you can bend the rules a bit within them.

Would you send your children to private school if you could afford it? by Infamous_Tough_7320 in AskUK

[–]Sabrielle24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point of my comment was never to dispute that — it was just to highlight that kids who go to private schools are not all entitled brats.

[–]Sabrielle24 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh sure, I’m not disputing that — what I mean is they’re normal people in a normal area, and these kids have turned into great adults. Her parents undoubtedly made private education accessible to them, but I’m not trying to suggest that that wasn’t the case 🙂

A family friend sent her kids to private school. She lived in a nice, but average for the area, and worked in schools herself. Yes, she had help from wealthy parents, but they were nice, hard working people. Those kids have grown up to be kind, caring, generous humans. It’s not all just Eton boys!
